Hey all,
We’ve noticed a lot of Local OOC being used for general chatter lately, so here’s a friendly nudge to go and give the help file a read: Help OOC
LOOC is a really useful tool, but it isn’t meant for chatting about IRL stuff, what you had for dinner last week, or what color your dog is. The appropriate uses are:
The reason we’re strict about this is simple. LOOC happens in a room with characters, so everyone chatting already knows exactly who everyone else plays. When players start getting friendly OOCly through LOOC, bias creeps into roleplay whether you mean it to or not, and that’s how you end up drifting into Conflict of Interest territory. It also protects you. Sharing personal information with people who know your character gives them something they could use against you, and sharing contact info over LOOC is already against the rules for exactly that reason (see 3.H in the Rules of Conduct).
If you want to socialize OOCly, then OOC-Chat, the BGBB, and Discord are all there for that; just keep it free of anything that reveals who you play.
Repeated misuse of LOOC can lead to us taking action, but we’d much rather it didn’t come to that. If you’re unsure whether something is OK for LOOC, the safe bet is to keep it IC or xhelp and ask.
Thanks

LOOC is a really useful tool, but it isn’t meant for chatting about IRL stuff, what you had for dinner last week, or what color your dog is. The appropriate uses are:
- Helping new players find their footing in the game.
- Offering immediate command help to someone who’s struggling with a command.
- Letting a player know something might be a @bug and helping them submit it.
- Letting someone know their @LP is wrong or missing some punctuation.
- Letting people know you’re going AFK for a moment.
- Communicating with any staff in the room with you.
- Asking another player to Fade-To-Black.
