Anywho.. I got a new computer a while ago, because my old one committed suicide. There were alot of stories, pieces of my old artwork, essays, and even SD-related stuff on my old hard drive, so.. I decided to install it as a Slave drive on this computer.
I have it all set up. I put the jumpers in the right places for both the Master and Slave drives. Everything is connected correctly. Windows XP has recognized it as new hardware, and automatically installed the drivers. However.. there is a problem. Windows did not give the drive a label (i.e. C: or D: ), so I cannot access any of the data stored on it.
I've tried a number of things to get this to work. Windows does not display the new hard drive in "My Computer" or "Windows Explorer" or anything, but it does show it (with the spiffy little name I gave it on my old comp and everything) in the "Computer Management" editor thing (Control Panel>Performance and Maintenance>Administrative Tools>Computer Management. From here its in the "Storage>Disk Management" submenu). When I right-click on the drive there, I can see the option to "Change Drive Letters and Paths.." but I cannot select it. I don't know why.
There is a difference in the File System of each drive. My Master drive is NTFS, and my Slave drive is FAT32. However, I've been told, and I've google'd it and seen on several message boards, that this should -not- be a problem. So I've tried other things.
I've gone into the BIOS several times to try and make changes. I've tried it both with the hard drive installed, and uninstalled (I've done this several times already). Nothing seems to work at all. I just can't figure it out, and its driving me insane. I'd -really- like to keep the data that's in there, however, there is no way that I can think of to get it out.
Does anyone know what I'm supposed to do? This is frustrating as Hell.
