Play Time Consideration

Hello, I really would like to play and enjoy this game. I've played RP games before and been sucked into long hours of play that went on for years. What I'd consider unhealthy and nor feasible for a responsible lifestyle with school/work etc.

I also get the feeling many people here are already accustomed to playing long hours and this is their normal. And further, the game will cater to players with a whole day to spend time on the game. Being present more often means inclusion in certain events, or being able to track a friend/enemy down to do something pivotal for change where a player with less time will have a much harder time finding such opportunities.

Is this opinion reasonable?

And how well will a character grow, interact, and impact the game given maybe 2 hours on a day and maybe 5 days a week. I'm just thinking ahead. Its not that I'm a casual player, I'm quite hardcore, immersive, and serious about it all. I just have responsibilities that conflict with my passion.

Hi, welcome! I think you will be fine. I work long hours and spend a few hours a day in game, myself.
There are definitely players who make an impact on the game given around that 10 hour a week number you quoted. Different IC occupations and areas of the game also have different paces, and some roles really don't need a heavy time commitment.

That said, I would say it's a fair assessment that being around more an expose you to more opportunities just by virtue of being available for more roleplay. But there are game mechanics that cap resources both in terms of experience game for character progression and money to help level the playing field, so people with a huge amount of time can't just grind infinitely for an advantage.

I would also point out that, for many players who are on all day, only a tiny fraction of their online time is proactive or impactful. So you probably won't be 'playing' all that much less than a lot of people who spend five times as much time logged in!

To be clear, I am not saying that people should change anything. I think it's great that people can play how they like. Pros and cons to just about every approach. I just think that being proactive and pushing for things to happen for two hours can make up for a lot of the time gap and is a very reasonable and possible way to play!
