Canada! We've been feeding dead hookers and skips to pigs for over 15 years. That should be the new t-shirt motto. Its so much better then Canadian girls rock! or I love Alberta Beaver
From what I understand, the real town of Deadwood was a fluke, a TAZ, if you stretch the definition. The American government had no jurisdiction for a short time because the place was on Indian Territory. So, no law and order other then vigilante justice or what was made up by the population to suit its own needs, and we all know what/who dictates those needs. The show is of course dramatized TV drama with real names thrown in and not a historical dramatization of real events. But there is cyber. Squint! :) No human rights? Theres brutality that only HBO TV can get away with and people, especially the wimmin folks, are objects to be used in the gold rush. What kinds of people go to a place where there is no law and lots of money to be made? There are papers in the town backed by each of the key civic powers (the show hasn't relly got into that yet). No mega corps, not the CP idea of them, but organised backing fitting in with the times. The Hearst Family officially got involved with the area once the place was under US law, but who knows what was going on before the treaty was ratified. No gadgets, unless you count the one camera. :P Manipulation of human beings by those in power? You can call them data, nodes, puppets, patsies, marks, innocents, sheep etc. That's been part of the human fabric since well before the mirrorshaded antihero appeared so its very much present if not as sleek as in CP. Watching the show, its almost like its a western created by someone whos familiar with the CP aesthetic and gangster movies. If you spot an episode kicking about online check it out, or Ill throw a sewer rat at you.
