Encrypted SIC traffic

I bet you thought this would be about how to crack it, well it isn't.

I was talking to Iga last night, and mentioned to him how it comes out to me. See I have vision problems and use a screen reader most of the time. Well when the traffic comes by my screen reader goes nuts, it will read every letter that is there, you should hear it.

Well, just think about that, then when you see the encrypted SIC traffic go by read it off to yourself a letter at a time, I think this is what it must be like in our heads when it goes by.

And in case your wondering why I don't do a CI Chat, well my I have my reasons, who knows I might crack the code yet ;)

Ratboy

'cracking the code' would get you banned from the game, as the 'encyrption' is IC and we hate cheaters. :)
Thats a really cool way to think about it.  I've always pondered how the SIC would actuly -look- or.. be heard in my head.

The program you have, it doesn't have any setting for filtering out certain strings?  You might be able to set it to ignore anything after like the encryption name..

On cracking the SIC, I don't think if the SIC were real, it would actuly be showing you a list of numbers.. I think the encrypted messages would actuly show up something like white noise on the TV.. with no real pattern or useable information that you could take into account when you tried to 'crack it'.. But I could be wrong.  If its actuly showing up as numbers ICly.. as opposed to being an OOC way of representing something, then I wonder if it's IC for someone to 'crack' the code ICly.

I know I've heard an NPC mention that they had almost 'cracked' an encryption before.  Then again that NPC may have had access to equipment and information regarding the SIC that no normal player would have.  It would be cool if it was possible ICly, givin' your character was mad smart.

Nem,

Yea I could turn it off, and I could make it so it would ignore the message if it has a $ in it, but then I would have to reset it every time I went somewhere that I needed that. Besides being batshit crazy helps around here, and I hope that there is a way IC to crack that, but this character won't be doing it unless they cut the top of his head off and install a new brain.

Ratboy

Okay, johnny, why is it cheating if you crack the code? And why would you tell anyone? Are you trying to say that out of the 65 million people in the dome not one can figure out the code? I am sure that if they can hack into corporate mainframes I am sure they could break a code. And if/when someone does break the code, instead of banning them give judges walkie talkies so people dont know what they say and when they say it and they wont know when the police have figured out they are steeling something from a store they just assume no one knows until the cops show up. I dunno sorry to go off topic but it just made me wonder.
He means if you crack it OOCly and use the info ICly.

If your character has the means and ability to crack the code, and does so using those means and abilities, then it is not cheating.

Whee.
