i was told by my greeter to stay away from the church and not to ask why because i would not be told. well i am ooc asking why? is it bugged? are their enemies that i can't fight right now? seemed really fight clubish the way she said don't ask.

This is something you should discover IC, when a character (even your greeter) tells you that you can't do something, it is purely in-character that they don't want you to do it, if they wanted to communicate something like a bug or OOC issue they'd use the local OOC chat to communicate that.
