Funnest times I have in Withmore is playing an idiot, making mistakes, not knowing shit so people then have to explain it like they're talking to a alien, and failing. I recommend it to all. And OP is right, we can tell when you're pulling up shit from wiki and it's even worse when you say 'oh I griddled it'… but we all know you're in your cube siccing and can't afford a quick term...
People do this in real life and the tech provides the means to do it ICly. Is it still annoying? Yes. So call them out in character, I say.
Otherwise, I agree this is one of many social commentaries in the game and most notably SIC that detracts from immersion greatly.
Ultimately though? I think it's really up to us to collaborate as a community and lead by example in this regard. Compelling individuals with meaningful RP tend to want to RP with each other. If your RP is less compelling for various reasons, you find yourself a bit isolated.
