People holding jobs who log in once in a blue moon and don't service anyone are stagnating the game.
I can recall 3 active instances now, several in the past, of cases where an active player has ICLY seeked a certain position only to be completely stuck because said position is either one spot only and someone is hogging it, being inactive or there are multiple inactive people taking up all the vacancies.
I understand that real life is a priority of course, and that we are aiming to be empathetic with people's IRL schedules and reason with them. However, that leaves the players who actively seek these one-spot positions stuck because the person in that position will ocassionally log on to do the bare minimum and not get fired. And also in the meanwhile, because they are never around, not create any opportunities to be plotted against or schemed to be fired.
The solution : increase the number of vacancies in said position, or make much more stringent guidelines on keeping the hired players. (Techie/Pharma roles in the mix, Cyberdoc jobs topside), etc. For characters who rely on them and are completely stuck because of the other players occupying that spot who will do the bare minimum to keep them and nothing else.
Alternatively, if the staff are deadset on keeping these players in these spots, hire a secondary spot if the existing player doesnt meet more stringent time standards. This way the first player keeps their job, whereas if the situation calls for it, a second player can be hired to fufill that role.
It's not just a matter of said time. I have seen the same spots hogged like this for over half a year, potentially going into a year now by people who will log on once every few weeks or months and do the minimum amount of RP required to keep their job, if at all. Thats enough time for a character walk in to the gates, have their entire story arc and then leave.
This is really unmotivating to the characters that put in massive amounts of RP and effort and frankly whose entire story arcs revolve around getting said gig only for them to be stuck. Not even scheme or plot or RP their way into it because the spots are limited and the players holding them are never online.
