Membership and Rental Times
OOC elements invading IC strategies

I know that some characters will track someone using their rental times. You know John lives in Apartment X, check to see how long it's rented for. Is it a long time? 3 to 6 months or more? Note it down. They move out? Start checking apartment doors for a rent time that matches.

This is all IC so far. A little small world maybe but seemingly all IC. But is it? Not really. As those specific rentals times being tracked are based on OOC elements. Your membership. There's not a lot you can do ICly to obfuscate it. Maybe OOCly go buy more time but that, while the most effective route, is using OOC to combat a seemingly (though in my mind questionably) IC situation.

I would like to see this changed. Maybe all leases over four weeks just say something like: RENTED FOR MORE THAN ONE MONTH. Maybe add a feature to doors that let's someone choose to conceal rental time for a price, like a new door upgrade.

I'm not sure what solution is best and I'm sure some don't see this is a problem at all. But I thought it was worth bringing up for discussion.

I've never seen anyone got to this length to find out where someone lives and frankly it sounds insane. If you sit and track days and months on apartment to make up which match, that is in my opinion fully OOC and not IC.

Oh people do, and they track many other things that some may consider oocly - like order of cars in a big parking lot.

If you will give IC info to people, they will use it. I see no downside to show it as "Above 1 month" to all, and actual date to the actual render - as that may matter if you prepay as some jobs allow to easily do.

Can you imagine some guy who lives in New york moving to another place and someone finds him based on nothing but a lease term? Get out of here xD

I think the suggestion more than a month would be great to fix this, but also we could all not be massive cheeseballs.

Well, paper tiger, they could find him based on his utilities application!

People who use rent time in this fashion are crazy and should reevaluate how they play. However, if you put this information into the world, the world will find some whacky way to make use of it.

I am not against characters trying to track someone's moves. I just find this one rather cheesy. And it very much does happen. Further, If I understood things right, this undermined deckers some.

Grey0, that is a pretty solid idea in this complaint thread! Apartment rentals should in some way be tied to the grid so deckers can track movements.
