OOC Chatter

I am getting sick of OOC chatter.  Not on the OOC channel as thats something we has admin can monitor, but on AIM.  I will not pretend not to be guilty of this.  I talk to players on AIM with both my player and my admin persona, and I always have.  I will not stop talking to players on AIM as I like to get to know people.

What needs to stop is talk about the game.  I don't want players talking about admin, I don't want players talking about players and I don't want admin talking about player to players about players, or any mixture of the previously stated.

It's against the gorram rules people.  Not only that, but it takes away from the game.  No one likes to talk about the game more then me (just ask my girlfriend, my ex girlfriend, and my ex-ex girlfriend) but talking about it MESSES things up.  Even if you don't mean to reveal IC info you -do-.  It doesn't matter if it's who is online, who is trying to kill you, who you killed in the recent past, what gun you have, if you have xo5, if you have a problem with an admin, if you got fucked over, if you saw the fucking fireworks on the 4th of July while signed onto sindome and idle in your cube.

Stop.

I will personally make sure that anyone bringing up IC actions/info/plots/ideas for plots/hair color/whatever, with ANYONE on AIM is NEWTED for as long as I can get every other admin to agree on (and I can be persuasive).

JUST STOP.

This is not a friendly reminder, this is a smack in the face that is meant to bring people back to the reailty of the rules.  Yes, we are all friends, yes we (mostly) all like and respect each other, but that does not mean we should be so chummy that we tell each other our next 'big' move like were sitting in the drome.  Have these conversations IN GAME people.

I would also like every single person to start thinking about the other people that play the game and how what they say might/could/will get back to them, like the old game telephone that you used to play during recess or at camp.  Peoples feelings will be hurt, and no matter what you try, do -not- talk about someone else, admin or otherwise.

It's a game, we are all here to have fun and while getting to know your fellow player can be just as fun as playing the game, if you violate the rules I will find you and make an example out of you.

You have been warned and I will no longer feel and guilt at all for enforcing the rules of the game.  If you do not understand anything that has been said by me, please contact me on XHELP.  If you want to talk to an admin about something and you are friendly with them on AIM, DO NOT DO IT ON AIM.  Do it in game, using xhelp.  That's what the xhelp command is there for.  So we can communicate effectively with players.

I repeat, no matter what has happened in the past, speak with admin IN GAME so that there is no possibility for anyone to contest what you have said.

Less hurt feelings.  Less telephone.  Less OOC drama that takes away from IC fun.

I'm totally guilty of this but I mean within' reason…

Lets be fair?

I talk to people concerning my seldom completed, often attempted scripts and even just to stew about that crap I wish was in-game but am sick of complaining on the bgbb.

I have no idea what happened but dude, can you possibly stop it?

I skirt the edge sometimes, but I think alot of us who've been around a decent bit do. I mean the amount of crap some of us know IC/OOC is conflicting. Part of being good at RP is handling that.

Its all within reason though.

I mean, I'll fuck over someone and they won't know it...and I'll still listen to them stew about it over aim. :)

I am not saying that people cannot talk and get to know each other.

We all discuss things on the BGBB, and that is fine. The problem is that with AIM, it's a one on one conversation instead of a group conversation as it should be.

We all need to take a step back, realize that however much fun it is to gloat over past wins/losses/deaths/kills/fuckall that it takes away from the mystery of the game as a whole.

If someone is taking away the mystery of the game for you, tell them to stop, tell an admin, whatever. If there is no mystery behind the game then there is no reason to play other then winning.

I can honestly say that as an admin, I do -not- read notes, SIC messages, scroll in general, if I think they are about my character. This is a trait that I have developed over time, because when you know everything, the game is just not fun.

So please, take it from someone who could know all if they wanted too, the game sucks if you don't have to work for every scrap of intel available, and there are some kinds of information that no matter how great an RP'er you are, you cannot forget.  They will influence your decisions, your outcomes, and your play over-all and it -sucks-.

I will be asking people OOCly if anyone has been passing IC knowladge OOCly.  I wont be asking about prior transgressions, but as of this posting, you have all been warned.  So, please, do not think you are safe to chat about ANYTHING In-Character, OOCly, because I will find out and enforcer the rules of the game on you, and I will not feel bad.

The first rule of Sindome is, you do not talk about Sindome.

The second rule of Sindome is, you DO NOT talk about Sindome.

Not that I agree with the sentiment, but it had to be done. :)

I kinda agree with Reefer, can you stop it? On top of that, if you realistically think people should be punished/newted for OOC/IC transgressions then it should be those who act ICly on OOC information, they're the ones breaking the fundamental rules of good roleplay.

Christ, RP is a social/shared experience, it's good to discuss it. It's good to work together OOCly to create a better IC. The problem stems entirely from people who abuse OOC knowledge because of the "win" mentality. You're ranting at and potentially punishing the wrong people.

Either way, I'd still say it's a fundamentally pointless discussion. You won't stop it, ever.

For shits and grins…

The first rule of Sindome is, you do not talk about Sindome.

The second rule of Sindome is, you DO NOT talk about Sindome.

If someone says stop, goes limp, taps out, Firestorm's kinky fun is over.

Two gangs to fight. (Ok, struggled with that one.)

One character at a time.

No scripts, no macros.

Roleplay will go on as long as it has to.

If this is your first night on Sindome, you have to roleplay.

I am SO getting a new AIM name and finding a way to hide from slither.

EDIT:

^_^ (Just kidding!)

Rastus - The problem isn't people who don't act on IC info that they have (though I do belive that it effects decisions on some level no matter what).

But, in order to stop the people that do act on IC info, you have to tell everyone not to discuss things, because who knows who is going to really abuse that info ICly?

Also, we have the BGBB for a reason, it's here that we are supposed to chat about RP, in a way that doesn't give anything away.

Obviously everyone wants to talk about RP they had with someone else, but at that point the line between what is okay and what is not okay begins to blur, and people start going further and further with whats being said.

I don't -want- to punish anyone, but I feel that the game is now suffering and something has to be done.  So stop chatting about IC things OOCly, thats just gotta be the bottom line.  If we add a grey area in there anywhere then people will use it to skirt by the rules.

When faced with an odd decision, that you know better either…A. Act a fool or B. Flip a coin.
I guess it comes down to which way you want to deal with things. Obviously it's a very real problem, always has been, but IMHO rule enforcement and policing detracts from the game in several ways.

Personally, in both pen/paper games and online, I try to deal with IC/OOC conflicts as ICly as possible. It aids the flow of the game and prevents collateral damage to chains of events which may have spread far beyond the initial events.

If a player abuses OOC information to gain an IC advantage, turn that IC advantage around and kick them in the ass with it. You won't stop players discussing things, plain and simple, but you can spend your time adding to the IC world while resolving imbalances.

Same applies to bugs and other rule breaks, they can frequently be resolved in as IC a manner as possible.

When someone discovered the clone tank object wasn't locked down and decided to pick it up, it was turned into an event that resulted in an explosion which destroyed one of the buses that existed between levels before the Mag-levs existed.

When someone described a piece of cloth as a nuclear warhead and left it in a bar it was turned into a mini terrorism plot.

Frustrating player behaviour is a fact of life, better to turn it into something good for the game than let it grind you down.

All the action that can be taken to stop OOC chatter, reasonably, is a post just like this one every once and a while. A verbal slap across the face from a well-respected admin.
It's a bandaid, and I agree with Rastus on the IC consequences for such discussions as being the more effective solution to dealing with those who don't clean up their act even after this post.
Either way, thanks for the reminder, Slither. Don't let anyone give you shit for being the regulator this time around.
@name dynafiber as "six thousand UE"

Lena's got a point…so yeah, go slither.

I'm gonna get back to ruining GM plots by accident now. :)

Hey wow, I do that too Reefer!
I too am guilty of the pleasure of talking about sindome with any other player OOC.  Sometimes I would plan stuff with the other guy and that was really bad and im sorry slither. I feel like these posts are like God booths(The booths where you talk to a father and admit). Well as much fun it was I nope am 2 weeks sober.

P.S   A lot of players are on Yahoo! Messanger(I am) just thought you could use that info.

Congratulations. you've ratted yourself out and now we must punnish you..

hmm.. punnishment for Jimi.. hmm.. well, death won't work, since he's died so many times he doesnt exist anymore..

umm… tickles?

no no no.. too gay.

um... You're not allowed to say stuff OOC anymore that would cause me to @cell you and give you a stern talking to..

keep that in mind when your little fingers throw 'OOC' across the input window.

and if you have to ask if what youre doing would get you in trubbs, then don't do that.

So a Ganger and a RipperDoc walk into the Drome..
