It’s extremely immersion-breaking, and you really have to suspend disbelief to make sense of what is supposedly happening ICly. The most recent time this happened, my character was inside a vehicle, yet a “nearby electrical socket” apparently materialized and produced an aimed electrical arc capable of crossing the space and injuring them.
More importantly, Sindome is a dark-future setting where advanced technology is involved in practically every aspect of everyday life. Players should be able to use a generic technological term, particularly when it isn’t being used in reference to the specific entity or group this mechanic is apparently intended to discourage discussion of, without being arbitrarily zapped for it.
If this is intended to be an actual IC technological capability rather than an OOC gag, it also raises a worldbuilding question and that question is why can this entity remotely manipulate ordinary electrical infrastructure to produce targeted electrical attacks, while deckers apparently cannot accomplish the same thing?
I understand discouraging discussion of specific IC information if there’s a reason for that. I just don’t think automatically electrocuting characters for using an otherwise ordinary word, regardless of context or even their physical surroundings, is a good way to accomplish it.
