Black Magic Marker

@idea from Kiyoko

Item is "Black Magic Marker,
it can _smell_ like Black licorice, (As all black Magic Markers do)
If used, player enters _20_ chars (Whatever, admins can set the value sensibly)
and the 20 chars are appended to the object that the marker was used on.
ie:  "you see 'blah' scribbled on 'object x' in black magic marker."
or   "Scribbled in black magic marker is 'blah'."

That's a really cool idea. Then people could leave graffiti on walls and stuff. Like in the men's room at Carnal we could write, "SIC Dojo for a good time." Heh, just kidding. But it would be good for those inclined to mark up public places. The mag-levs might start to look like the underground. Heh.

I seem to remember spray paint being like that… there was actually something about Dark on SHI at one time, or maybe that was a blantant threat Ras put up to all the slobs who... *eyes* nevermind.

Anways, ya, I like that idea. There could even me a time limit for the messages before they wear off (if ever) or it could be WCS' job to attempt to clean some of that up (Not on Red of course...). Its an idea...

That's pretty much exactly how the spray would work I'd assume.

Personally I'd rather see spraypaint, but magic marker would allow you to write on 'objects' rather than on rooms.

look WJF

*wears a full suit of WJF armor but there's some scribbling on his back.*

read scribbling

The scribbling says "WJF can suck my boots"

snicker

It's definitely an Idea. Would have to be a way to clean it off though. There would be -something- in 2086 that could erase majic marker. The inventor would be a millionaire.

The spray paint discussion has actually raged on and off for over a year on the admin side, a good number of admin being against it because of the spam it would add to location descriptions, especially when more than one person spraypaints a room… However.. a musing that has just entered my mind and would be incredibly simple to implement would be to store 'graffiti' on the room but not integrate it fully into the room description. So, instead of seeing:

You are in a room with walls and stuff. Spraypainted on the walls in red paint is: Eat shit and die. Spraypainted on the walls is blue paint is: Eat more shit and die. Etc

You would see:

You are in a room with walls and stuff. The area has been daubed with graffiti.

Then a new verb could be added to call off the :look verb, 'look graffiti', which would then display all the graffiti currently in the room.

Hmm...

Why do I always come up with ideas to implement this stuff when I'm already more than overwhelmed with projects?

yay for spraypaint, I think it's a good idea, so is ras' and one question, Ras you said that it would spam rooms?  First off, how many people read every descrip they come across, every time.

Second, this will sound selfish, but the game is for the players, and if we thought it was a good idea, why not implement it?  I understand if it's a matter of how to do it in a reasonable manner with out too much Ras code, I know there are more important matters to get finished(kicks the  bishop code he has come across) Like the vehicles, among other things.  So if they players like it, why not?

Plain and simply, ticks
More ticks == more lag.
And you have to remember, each time someone looks or moves into a room, it has to use those ticks again.
C'mon now, this is from the people who complain that the SIC and TV ads are too spammy, now you want us to code something that allows people to append a rainbow pattern of multicolored lines to room descriptions?

Trust me, from -most- people's experience of the same code on CS, it's annoying and spammy.

-However-…

Johnny has already coded the back end for graffiti, the side that handles integration to the room descriptions, as per my suggestion above. All that remains now is for us to code front end objects that actually let you add graffiti to the room.

So, it's coming. :)

Yay, an easier way to redecorate (sorta) :)
Sure, just spray paint that couch in your apartment. :P

Yes the game is for players, but it's also for us admin.  And the admin are the ones voted into activity to be a part of the discussion process to view all angles of every suggestion/code addition.

There are tons of things players wish were a part of the game but they might not be themely, they might unbalance the game, they might spam the game, they might cause lag, they might be unrealistic…and whether or not they are is up to the admin to decide.

So yes the game is for your enjoyment, and yes it is for our enjoyment too. But the extent to which players help is to @idea things and then Admin take it from there and have the final say.  Admin know best. Really we do.

(most of the time anyway)

-I- know best. All other opinions and ideas are of questionable origin until -I- decide they are good opinions or ideas.

This fact is unquestionable because I decided it, I wrote it and, as per the rule, I know best.

That is all.
