It'd be neat if it was possible to give a bot / drone a Term and let them go collect your scans for you, allowing for a collaboration between deckers and riggers.

I believe this is possible with certain instances already, it's just not very practical for reasons. But I would amend this idea to include a robot modification part that may allow for somethinglike an add on program or extra scan storage for a Term perhaps?

Sorry, amending my comment to say. I think this would be possible already if a specific verb was added to certain robots but the use case would be so niche it would be likely impractical hence suggesting a robot modification that can be more widely used to allow for this.

It doesn't require any particular skill to scan things with a term, so letting robots do it remotely would only take work opportunities away from new characters.

It does, however, take skill to scan things without getting caught. Particularly in Gold and Green, or bars in Red where the owner doesn't want you to scan their stuff.

Also, why is it that the only thing new players are ALLOWED to do, is run crates? Why can't a new player be allowed to do the decking, or the rigging? You're telling me the only way for the game to work is if I can't do anything related to my character concept for a full month?

Exactly, all the more reason to pay a lot of chyen to in-person runners to scan these areas. If people aren't happy about scans of their areas, that encourages more conflict between various factions and individuals, which is a good thing.

In response to your edit, scanning places with terms is a great hustle for new characters since they are still beginners with most skills. I don't want a more experienced character to take jobs that would give chy and RP to new characters.

You missed the point of my edit. There's no reason a new player shouldn't be able to play that rigger, or that decker.

However, I would say that IF scans were more readily available, easier to come by via remote means such as this, or other such techniques, I'd be all fine with scans not lasting forever. Maybe their duration depends on your Perception + Systems combination, and is affected by the method in which you obtain the scan. Physically versus remote. And / or, some metric for having a scan "quality" in the same vein.

Skill is irrelevant to scanning specifically so more people, both new and old, can aid in decking shenanigans.

Yeah, but if everyone CAN scan, but characters skilled in Systems can produce BETTER scans, it adds more to the decking economy and can even produce a whole new archetype, a scan runner who is built for all the things a runner is, plus Systems. Perception.

BlackSoul, new players can 100% be riggers. There are things that can be done, they just may take a bit of untraditional thinking or asking around IC about opportunities.

Sure just like *technically* a new player absolutely can be a decker if they want to draft up nodes for folks who could also just draft up the nodes themselves.

That doesn't mean that game play loop is necessarily fun or rewarding.

Or that there shouldn't be some effort made to enhance that experience and make the game more fun for everyone involved.

Sure. I fully support niche tech archetypes getting more support across the board. Decking has had a major one recently while rigging is arguably more limited (though again, there are possibilities). Aside from mechanical possibilities, nothing is stopping decker players and rigger players from collaborating IC, or even being a team IC that brings slightly different strengths together.

Yeah, and I think this idea would really help to bridge that gap and make the combination of these two skills much more interesting.

It really makes me think of that part in CyberPunk 2077 where there was a super stealth military bot that was stolen and used for a mission. The not could sneak in to otherwise almost impossible places, scanning things to let the decker do their hacking to crack things open for the bot to sneak further in. That little scene would be soooo much fun.

And there are ways to go about it that really impacts the greater economy and story at larger. Supporting cybernetics, letting things be built by electro tech, secure tech, and then allowing for some variety of certain, powerful ICE that deals damage to the decker if your try and fail to crack into it, thus requiring a medic type… There's soooo many options that could work for this and involve multiple players that it just feels lazy for the conversation to be dismissed because it's not a physical combat story.

I don't think anyone is dismissing your idea due to combat. An earlier concern was brought up that scans can be done by any players and especially new ones, so you technically don't need this extra tech.

The thing is there is limited staff bandwidth for stuff. So putting ideas like this out there is good so they can see it and see if it is possible at some point, but I think some measured expectations about what can fully be realized mechanically may be good to keep in mind.

Don't let it stop you from playing a decker, a rigger or any kind of tech expert. plenty of players and mentors available for that.

Staff availability to do the coding, of course I can understand.

And that's not what I'm arguing here. But crates roleplay isn't fun, and it should be MORE available than it currently is for newer players to get into their archetype. And to facilitate that, the things experienced players can do should be more advanced than it currently is.

Those are my arguments. We shouldn't dismiss the topic because it would take roleplay away from newer players, but rather push some features down to them as new features are added, when staff have the available to add them.
