Card Reader Hardware
Got a biz? Maybe you wanna invest in it...

Simple idea: an installable piece of furniture that's essentially a fixed WSB card reader that links with the businesses' hardwired employment terminal. You can walk into JoeBaka's Gear, Gunz and Girlies Emporium and stick your card in the reader to pay 7 million chyen for that Xo57 without having to burden your bad self with hiring people to carry your 28 briefcases full of flash around.

The owner can @service-request one to be installed, go through the IC purchasing and installation process, and then have a fixed, hardwired way of accepting card payments. This might also incentivize some businesses to invest in SICamps that might not normally purchase them. I'd envision this hardware to be class agnostic, given the fact that a mix business is likely going to have to invest in additional, expensive gear to compliment it.

It also might provide secondary functions for businesses to act as player ATMs of sorts. Need flash fast? Head down to JoeBaka's for your MONEY! 1-383-CASH-NOW

Yes please. I would love to see more implementation of Cred sticks. And the tech RP that surrounds them!
These already exist, in higher end places. The fact that a place can take a credchip is a luxury in of itself.

Also, diminishing risk sounds great at the forefront, but I feel like making the game safer by removing the potential to jump people with stupid amount of cash on them on the way to make a big buy/deal wouldn't be conducive to core parts of the game.

100% what HolyChrome said.
Let me point out that it's also 100% possible for a business owner who doesn't already have this to ICly pursue acquiring it.
"Possible to happen' and 'actually happens' are two very distinct and different things.

As for this being about risk mitigation, I don't see that as being the selling point. WSB cards can be stolen, often are, and their owner's accounts wiped clean. They're not terribly secure, but I don't want to go into too much detail.

It was more about the actual logistics of moving around large amounts of flash. I don't think that the game was originally designed for players to regularly be spending hundreds of thousands of chyen at a time, and it's reflected in what a general pain in the ass it is to do business with these super inflated numbers. That's all.

Twenty years ago fifty K was an insane amount of money. What you call "inflation" doesn't really have anything to do with "original game design" - carrying around crippling amounts of risk was always a real high point.

"Possible to happen' and 'actually happens' are two very distinct and different things.

I know of a number of instances it has happened. Even from a position of it "never happening", it's still no reason to remove the window of opportunity.

Just want to quote above from the OP in the event it was casually glossed over. Some might consider "Going through the IC purchasing and installation process" as.. plotting.

As for me calling it inflation- that's what it is. It's not an opinion, it's simple fact. I know it didn't use to take half a million chyen or more to outfit a character. We have one item in the game for carrying more than six figure amounts of flash, and even that can be inadequate at times. That's my point.

And again, restating: Having a WSB card doesn't magically make you immune to having your money taken from you by force or slight. This thread is not about making the game a safe place for characters. Please stop derailing it.

No, it isn't. But it'd be a symptom of implementation. Thus not derailing.

Also, you're assuming some things about credchips but I can't go into anymore info.

stop derailing it

We're not derailing anything, these are the honest reactions to this @idea. Jeez.

"not agreeing" isn't the same as "not getting it" or "changing the subject".
