Cheap Guns

So I was thinking about how hard it is for newer characters that don't have alot of money.  Unless they get a loan, get lucky, or get a gun fronted to them, there isn't really much of a way for them too get one.

So I was thinking we could have some sort of really, really inexpensive (Like 1000 chyen) disposable pistol.  It could be like a disposable camera in a sense, 10 shots and then you throw it away.

It wouldn't have to do all that much damage, but it would give you the edge over a lesser armed person, a nd get newer characters moving a good direction.  They would also be useful as drop weapons for more established players too use when they want to use a weapon that wont immediatly have everyone thinking it was them.

That is a good idea, as cheap plastic, un-reliable peices of shit seem like they'd be very common among amatuers and kids in 2090.

Everyone seems to forget that ambient population. Cuase you know, there are only 15 people in withmore, and only three of them have gats.

Personally, I feel its up to the players to fix that problem. Buy a gun, KILL YOUR NEIGHBOR!
Even if you factor in ambient population, paranoia still feeds the need to do something completly un traceable.  There are means ICly to find out exactly what weapon was used, tme of death, etc.. of a corpse..

If you are a high profile person, and you are in an ongoing war with another person, and they know you favor a Glock 20, and are not known to use another gun, then a cheap plastic POS that you can just throw away would be an awesome way to throw them off.   It's like using a machete when you're known to use a pistol.

Or you can incinerate the corpse.  Just a thought.

Variety is the spice of life.

You still have to think about eyewitnesses.
Disposable guns have been on 'The List' for a long time now. At least 4 years.

:)

In fact, Jman has a prototype in the wings. It has been sidelined because we have gobs of combat oriented items in the game. We are focusing a lot on non-combative systems like fatigue, health, forensics, drugs, disease, etc.

Don't worry, soon enough you'll have plastic single fire guns

Cheap guns have a thematic problem though. Guns are illegal to own in 99% of cases. Agreed upon by the corporations. You'll notice there are no firearm stores.

So, guns wouldn't be cheap … ever.

Plastic guns would no doubt be -more expensive- because of the difficulty in detecting them.

So ... while I've got a prototype disposable that works completely, I'm in absolutely no rush to put it in the game.

Would a disposable gun also be a waste of money, as eventually it would just become cheaper to get a regular one anyway?
The idea behind it, in my opinion, is that though it would be most cost efficent in the long run, when it comes down to maybe being alive to buy a gun thats going to last you for awhile, six weeks down the line, and buying something thats going to keep you alive for those six weeks..

What will you choose?

But yeah, as Johnny said, there wouldn't be much of a market  for cheap guns I suppose, since it wouldn't be cost effictive to import something that is going to drive down the prices on more expensive guns.. in order to sell something that isn't going to make you as much money.

The point of disposables is this:

1) Harder to detect.
2) Easy to dispose of after the job, leaving less forensic evidence.

Those two facts alone make them worth what ever fee gets slapped to them. Especially if it was a high profile job, such as assassinating the CEO of Whatevercorp.

They should definetly have a shelf life, and shouldn't be reliable for battle royale. Idealistically, it should melt after * +random# shots and be prone to jamming up. I don't think it should be too cheap either. While I am somewhat sympathetic to supplying newbie's with guns, I'm not about making it easy for them…and disposable doesn't strike me as a good newbie weapon either. Learning how to purchase illegal goods is one of the thresholds of breaking out of newbie-dom if you would. At least in my mind. Difficulties in life and in SD are often some of the most rewarding experiences. If one was too start handing out Glocks at the five and dime...well, blah you know what I mean. What kinda strikes me as odd is acquiring a firearm legally which I know nothing about. I just hope its easier then it is illegally. Post-bureacracy that is.
