And maybe smell should be a bit more obvious, to the extent where you don't have to make an effort to actively smell someone. But rather if they're talking to you or whispering there would be a % chance you catch a whiff based on perception.

This isn't exactly very IC unless of course you allready know how the person smells and are trying to catch a stronger whif of their perfume. Personally I think anyone who did that to me without some obvious reason would get a boot in the stomach. Smells need to be integrated into PC's descriptions or the ambience of the room in such a way that they're only noticable by thoes who would notice them. This isn't exactly a small task, and offers no real benifit to RP, so probablly won't happen any time soon.
Besides, perfume is VERY MUCH a luxary item, and we know how much usage the existing luxary items get…
Don't get me started on people who sit in their cube (or the drome for that matter) and have smelling contests. Makes me want to scream at them.

in short, luxury items arent being used mainly b/c the ones who are intended to use them icly can't afford it, and the ones who arent intended to use it Icly, can, but won't due to ic conflicts… such as a mixer with cologne or someother gross misconstuction of impropper hogwash.
imo, that is.
yup.

I wouldn't exactly say that. An integrated odor system would help counter stealth potentially, get ambience from the various things people can smoke now, and let the ladies of the evening leave a linger whiff of chanel no. 80 after they've left the bar.
I took some small steps toward this last time I touched smoking objects (cigs, pipes, bubblers, etc) and will take more if something like perfume or cologne gets done. :)
TV shows are getting the lion's share of my work right now.
