Drugs are good

I've always thought drugs are a great RP tool, but there's so many aspects of all things drug related, that could be expanded on, to create more things to do, more RP, and more avenues for players to explore.

Let me expand on that a little:

I've said before that I think scripted effects when you take drugs would be cool. A little something more than just altering your stats..something that tells you how you're feeling, gives you a distorted perception of the world around you etc.

That'd be cool, but, I had a grander idea in mind when I started writing this post.

Drugs are an industry. There's many steps involved in the manufacture, production and distribution of them. At the moment, ICly, to the best of my knowledge, we're only scratching the surface.

We have a chemical skill! let's use it!

I think it'd be awsome to have chemistry kits, packed with interesting ingredients, that chemists can combine, to create drugs. I don't just mean, mixing up a batch of V-202, I mean, custom drugs.

Think about it; you have 20 ingredients, each with it's own unique characteristics. One might make you feel stronger, another might make you fart uncontrollably, another could kill you. whatever. The chemist, could combine ingredients, to create totally new drugs, the effects of which would depend not only on what they'd used, but what quantities, and how that reacts with other ingredients they've used. Some substances would simply make a liquid, a solid, so you could press it as tablets, etc.

You could mix then, stir them, shake them, cook them, freeze them, all kinds of things, all of which would change the properties of the substance you're creating. Then you could name it, and throw it on the streets to see what happens!


I dunno about anyone else, but personally, I could see that being a lot of fun. You could make it so that inspecting an ingredient would do a check against your intelligence, and chemicals skill, and give you some idea of what an ingredient would do to a person.

Thats just a great idea.  I can't even think of anything else that would make it better.  
Well, we could start by thinking of different effects.  The reason there aren't scripts for it now is cause of a major shortage of gms, there was a post a while back for drugs scripts in the scripting forum, didn't seem to go anywhere.
Drugs are damn broke these days.

I think you guys -stay- addicted, never get the hallucinations that were written and we never implemented the chemical skill.

Why'd we stop?

Someone made an opinion that people weren't going to use them because they were a net negative (the long effects are more negative then the short term positive effects) and that we shouldn't be spending our time on those. A large enough stink was made that I moved on to something else and haven't returned. Overtime, other upgrades broke these and because at the time, no one was really using them, no one noticed immediately.

Since then, no real work as been done to them besides making sure they had the temporary effects they needed to have and didn't give TBs. Patched for functionalty as it were.

One day, we'll get back to them. I personally appreciate that people can understand the value in RPing a realistic addiction and effects from drugs, but if your frustrated by the speech system, just wait for the coded effects of hallunications, now that we have scripting, we'll redo them as scripts and you'll be doing some -crazy- shit.

I wrote that idea while half asleep. I'm glad to see it mostly makes sense!

Additionally to the stuff directly related to the drugs themselves, RP could also flow from people selling, and stealing formulas for new super drugs. Not to mention a chemist could put together something that just looks like something everyone wants, package it as such and sell it, knowing full well it's not what people think, and having absolutely no idea what it's going to do to people! brilliant.

I know what Johnny's saying about the whole net negative thing, but, I think the breed of players on the game at the moment, are genuinely more about creating interesting stories, than 'winning' People are taking more risks, and rocking the boat a little more. Not quite enough yet maybe..but we're getting there!

This whole idea is one I'm sure some of the admin staff may have some memory of, because I have suggested it before, before the script engine was finished, and it got a positive response at the time, too.

If this is something that will be implimented, and there's any way we in the unwashed masses can assist, to take some of the work load of the admin staff, I'm pretty sure you'd have no shortage of volunteers :)

As far as I know (yes I wrote all the letters of afaik) the GMs are responsible for the "distribution" of drugs. They get a puppet and fill it's inventory with all kinds of dope.

I really like Kings idea. Drugs are an essential part of the whole cyberpunk experience. Every corner should have some hunched form talking to smurfs.

I even raise my hand to help you write the stuff up. I can come up with the basic components and the formulas *eyes his medicine cabinet*

I was just reading through the forum and must say, this is 100% brilliant, and I'd love to see it in game.
I have a spread sheet on drugs.

It is in Microsoft Excel and everything. Has all these numbers and words and really cool formating.

Anyhow, keep on using those drugs people, them more they are used, the higher in the game building priority they climb, and the sooner you'll get drugs that are cooler than cool. They'll be ice cold…

You guys are like me with my car, see one thing that sounds cool, start that, see something else I want more/or looks cooler, pause origional project and start second/  Then something breaks and needs attention now so pause first and second and move on to project 3.  And so on and so on, and so on

Yeah, we are like you with your car, they're both our hobbies. Amazing how that works, eh?

I'm talking about a file that has all the stat numbers.
