I was thinking….while there is no cure for plain stupidity (if osmeone does come up with one call me....) how bout whens someone enters or exits the rooms, it apperas in a color. I don't really see the harm it just accents it a bit....I noticed that alot of times when you are talking to someone and they order a drink, with other conversations, when someone enters you miss the line...

If you miss the line when you're in the middle of conversation, that just reflects how much your into that conversation. The same goes for combat. Its a good thing that exit/enterances are in the standard color.

How about making what the room sees when someone orders a drink a bit less spammy?
I don't know about everybody else, but it sorta bugs me when I'm in the middle of reading something someone said, and like 3 people order drinks one after the other, And drink them at the same time. …then you gotta look for what you were reading, and by the time you find it, you got another paragraph of stuff to catch up on. and by then, everone has already finished their drinks and it's time for another round....
and so on so on so forth.... whatever.
But if it works for everyone else, nevermind. I've just wanted to get it out.

You must read to play the game, I'm not going to cut down on the text so you don't have to read.
Go play a graphical game if you don't want to read.
Next you'll be saying, 'gee, that combat text is offly spammy', could you make it more concise?
No … no way.

well the reading isn't all that bad. It's really kinda cool. It's like an interactive story. …a never ending book that you're reading as it happens.
Of course it gets rather tedious if your book keeps closing on you and you have to keep finding the page you were on. But then again you Could always give it up and watch the movie.

How about , when someone talks directly to -you-, making the color something different, since the fellow is trying to get your attention anyway? So, in a general conversation, it'd be easier to miss something than when someone is adressing you directly?

There you go. If not shortening the reading, at least make it eaiser to sort through.
After all, it's not like we all haven't read someone ordering a drink before, and all the steps involved.

I agree with the dudes on this, depending on the situation ordering a drink processes and announces 5-7 messages without pause. Even if we added suspends between messages, which is something -I- believe should be done between almost all multi-message output, it's still alot of messages for a simple and common automated task by an NPC.
If a player spammed us with that kind of repeated messaging on a regular basis he'd probably be cautioned for it.

It sets a precedent for further abbreviations.
By itself, its harmless, but the precedent would be very bad for the detailed nature of the game.
It wouldn't take much for someone to question why everyone in the room has to be spammed with combat messages and just doesn't get a short 'Dominik misses Hookie.' & 'Hookie hits Dominik'.
It all boils down to the fact that they aren't NPCs, but they are players. Assume they are emoting it all and make the same argument for it. It doesn't work then.

Combat messages are suitably suspended between.
Combat messages contain variable and circumstancial information.
Combat will -never- send you 7 seperate messages without pause.

as is, at least you can tell the 'order beverage' chunk of messages and look, around it. If you suspend them then you'll just have to search for messages inbetween those lines…*shrugs* same problem I'd think.
As for color coding direct speech and stuff I disagree. Same argument Johnny had about color coding entrance/exit messages. If you're into a conversation and you miss someone coming in IRL, you make up for it by noticing them after they say something, but perhaps yer still too into your convo to hear them say your name to get your attention. If you want your character to be a more attentive person...you be more attentive...

yeah I see the reasons behind those being color coded, but if I'm sitting at a bar talking to Gerik long convo, IRL I don't have to read what the bartender is doings…it woudlhnt' interfere with the conversation. So could that be a diff color, or just last spammy, more pause like Ras is saying. It's only when you order drinks....Combat is good, and those others i can't think of right now

I can see both sides of this situation and quite realistically, I can ignore the fact that someone is ordering a drink beside me. I don't know that happens when I'm in a real resturaunt and I can pretty darn well tune out idiots fighting, too. Trust, me… I did it all through highschool and college.
