This one touches on a few different things, but all things that I think could mesh nicely together to provide a feature that a lot of players seem to want, in a way that could potentially involve multiple parties and drive RP overall. I don't have the entire thing fully fleshed out, yet, but that's what this thread is for.
HANDHELD VIDEO CAMERAS
Currently, as far as I'm aware, there aren't many feasible ways to record video footage without the backing of a megacorporation. I feel we should have hand-held video cameras to allow people to record things of their own, which utilize standard e-memory modules to store video files. One concern that comes to mind with this is taking up server resources, so maybe video files can decay over time, or some shit.
E-MEMS AND GRIDTERMS
Let us slot e-memory modules into Gridterms, and interface with the contents of those e-mems in our programs. This links in to my next point, which is really the crux of this whole thing.
TELEVISION HIJACKING/PIRATE STATIONS
While it's currently possible to hack a small section of the television network to play pre-recorded shows in NLM's database, I feel it would be extremely cool to let people schedule their own recordings, perhaps on arbitrary channels. Hijack the premiere of that highly-anticipated NLM show with the finest in Mix Pirate Television. Of course, something like this would generate significant Grid heat, but this seems like a feature people have wanted for some time now. Pirate TV stations where people can air their own low-budget shows without having to sell out.
How I see a device command for something like this working is as follows:
#device-execute-command
1234 - device ID
schedule_recording - command
6 - channel number
max_headroom.vid - video file to schedule
0 - Number of seconds into the recording to start playing at, in case NLM take you off-air early
#enddevice-execute-command
