Let the audience tip!
Npc Audiences and flash!

I've been around a while and seen a fair number of performances. No matter how good the act is, the payout usually comes from two places: the venue owner (if it's leased) or the event organizer, and whatever players feel like tossing on the ground.

It might look like a lot sometimes, but most performers walk away with maybe one to three kay unless it's a big scheduled event. That's not much incentive for people to get out there and perform.

So the question is: how do we get more performers?

Reward them.

My idea is to let the ambient populace drop chyen based on the quality of the performance. Most performances are spontaneous and don't draw a huge crowd, so letting the NPC population contribute would help make performing feel worthwhile.

To keep it balanced:
- It should count toward your max weekly earnings.
- It should only trigger once per day.

If anyone has thoughts on this, or better ideas for encouraging more player performances, I want to hear them.

You will find that performers tend to receive much more substantial tips if they perform topside. While it would be great for mix performers to be encouraged just as much, it's pretty themely that people who "sell out" and play topside make more money.

I'm not opposed to the idea you're suggesting though. I think it could be implemented in a way that works well. Just wanna point out that there's ways to get around being a broke musician.
This is already a mechanic but it only applies to characters who are employed by the venue. You have to be able to "get on stage." It does count toward your weekly cap and you have to be performing for a certain amount of time to get the set amount of chy. Maybe it could be applied to guest performers as well somehow?
As long as you can get on the stage, you get ambient tips. IIRC, places like KMB have an open mic policy and allow anyone to use their stage, but it's been a while since I've tested any of this out.

EDIT TO NOTE: This isn't about performing with the stage. The room needs a specific command that's along the lines of "CLIMB ONTO STAGE".

So it's only topside?
The Orifice and Red's Finest have it as well. It's largely tied to the old performance system and the expectation that those places had strippers and such.
BubbleKangaroo, last time I tried using that it was only able to be done by people employed at that place. Maybe it has changed or I didn't do it right though.

I had no idea that was a mechanic! That's so cool! I wish I knew when I was playing a working performer!
