Making paragliders maneuverable.
Soar throght the skies like the freedom bird you are.

While the ZMI tactical paragliders clearly have wings and a handles dangling from each side, they should be maneuverable. What I'm suggesting is that depending on the altitude jumped, one would be able to glide the paraglider as many tiles it takes to land into an unobscured direction. Maybe adding the command 'glide' to the game? For example jumping from a five storey high building would allow the player wearing a paraglider to glide five tiles to x direction during their controlled fall. Maybe even change directions, if said direction is unobscured.
This being implemented would be nice. Right now it's super obvious where you're going to end up landing if you paraglide off somewhere and it makes intercepting people way too easy. Opening up more avenues of escape would probably encourage at least some conflict oriented RP, and that isn't the only thing a paraglider can be used for anyway. Being able to change direction would just also make using them a lot more fun in general.
I think the difficulty here is paragliders when paired with a sniper rifle, and explosives is somewhat unstoppable. Without a way to be effectively targeted from a distance, this would just make an already extremely powerful item better with still a notable lack of vulnerability.
Thanks for the tip :)
@reefer

Huh? Idk what you're getting at, as the code exists right now you can track someone using a paraglider from the ground because all of their movements are reported the same way an aero's would be. If this change were implemented you could keep up with them if they tried to escape to an open area, it'd just make things more interesting than them falling in a straight line. I don't think sniper play would be affected beyond additional escape routes and just jumping off the rooftop in a random direction would probably accomplish the same thing.

I was thinking of this more in terms of having a better chance at leaving taller structures alive though.

I think the key facet here is paraglider aren't designed with plummeting off a building. It's to allow you to maneuver from rooftop to rooftop via edges without injury and the ability to traverse from lower to higher rooftops (impossible without it).

Knowing the lay of the land is a key to finding a escape route, and if your plan is to just to jump off something then slowly sail to the bottom - your plan is flawed.

I'm not sure if being able to go from lower to higher rooftops is a bug or not because some of the height differences you can clear are ridiculous, and it's fairly easy to go from rooftop to rooftop without a paraglider and accomplish the same sniper related shenanigans. There are also some situations where the best option for escape is slowly gliding down in a straight line though, which is what I think should be remedied.

"Knowing the lay of the land," only applies in certain places and in others you usually have to choose between an elevator or a jump, but it's not like that was the point of this thread either.

Yes can we get clarification on whether going from lower to higher rooftops is a bug or not, because it's a paraglider, not a jetpack.
I feel like it should be a bug... Going up should need something powered, or maybe like some kind of hook shooter.
It requires a piloting skill-check of relative difficulty to the height differential so I believe it is design as intended.
