I was reaind up on some information on chyen, didnt it say that one chyen equaled half a us dollar? If that is why iis everything so expensive?

Well, the Chyen was equivalent to 2 US dollars in 2048. I'm sure we're meant to believe, and rightfully so, that in the following 40-or-so years, it's steadily declined. Think of the ridiculous state of currency in, say, Snow Crash, where you had to carry around a zillion of everything.

Nice to see more SnowCrash fans around here.  ;)  That was my first CP read.

Diamond Age I thought was better, though.  Even if it wasn't necessarily CP.

Anyway, yeah.  From my experience 100c equals around 5 dollars, so..  yeah 20c is $1.

Or something like that.  *shrugs*  But then you gotta think of monopolization and whatnot.  Realistically they can make the prices whatever the hell they want.  ;)  Corporate rule, baby!

At one point in time, prices in SD were set according to 2000 prices in US Dollars. So we adjusted everything by 20 to convert it to chyen.

THIS NO LONGER APPLIES TO PRICES OF GOODS.

DO NOT TRY TO MAKE A COMPARISION OR BITCH ABOUT SOMETHING BEING MORE/LESS EXPENSIVE THEN ITS REAL WORLD COUNTERPART. I WILL HUNT YOU DOWN AND FLOG YOU MERCILESSLY.

The US Dollar in 2089 is a meer fraction of it's worth in the year 2004 and the relation of the 2089 US Dollar to the 2089 Withmore City Chyen is IC and has no relation to former 20:1 ratio.

Money's arbitary in the real world, so yeah, making a comparison between money in a game like sindome to the real world is just pointless, even if there was a correlation at one point.

Snow crash was my first cyberpunk read as well, superb stuff.

And yeah, the diamon age is better ;)

With Cryptonomicon being better than that…
