Prieview Apartment
Further reduce unnecessary rentals

Apartments can vary greatly in terms of decor, seating, and the like. I know my PCs have rented a couple apartments before just to see if they liked the inside better than what they already have. This can take the apartment off the market for at least a week.

So the idea here is to add a command to apartment doors called 'preview' (or similar). When you do 'preview EXIT' the game returns what one would see by doing 'look' in each room. I would also make it so this could only be used on apartments that are available to rent.

Example output:

=================

The tiny screen on the door shows a series of images detailing the apartment:

Apartment X

This is main room of the apartment.

The couch is unoccupied.

There are exits to the out (o), west (w).

Apartment X Bedroom

This is the bedroom of the apartment.

The large bed is unoccupied.

There are exits to the east (e), closet (c).

Apartment X Closet

This is the closet of the apartment.

There is an exit to the out (o).

=================

This is just a rough idea. There might be good reasons to not have such a feature I haven't thought of.

I like this idea!
Could be a little terminal in buildings that display apartment information. Kind of like the touchscreens for car information.
Love this idea.
Could be used to see what furniture items people have installed into apartments, making people just go fishing for what apartments have special items in them, and I think that shouldn't be a think. Why don't you just try and get in touch with a landlord and ask to preview them IC rather than code all of this???
I think perhaps a good balance is making something similar to vehicle previews and showing the basic layout but not the whole apartment. So if X apartment comes with a basic layout of a kitchenette, a table and a chefs island, so that in the preview. But not if it also has an unexpected wardrobe installed, etc.

And then other basics like amount of rooms, etc.

The code effort would free the GMs of the need to do puppets for showing apartments. Also, staff's new changes to apartment eviction code is supposed to remove such things as far as I understand it. Even if not, I'm not sure why people shouldn't be interested in what an apartment offers and these landlord puppets, if they happen, would show them just as much.

New apartment code does NOT delete installed furniture, hubs, etc. Just items.
Honestly, I think playing House Hunters: Slum City is not meant to be the aim of the game when we should be spending time interacting with eachother, not seeking the best layout for free instead of asking around for what places might have cool stuff to use
Look I've rented apartments multiple times where all the furniture was stripped out and I end up just moving so I can get a place in the same building with actual furnishings. Being able to avoid that whole song and dance sounds great.
It's just pushing the frustration you had onto someone else, and making them feel like there's no way to find a furnished one. Because there isn't, once everyone swaps into the fully featured ones. Why not enjoy the diamonds in the rough? Let that rush of finding something epic really spring you forward. Not just... Sift every apartment location in the game to figure out which one has a preinstalled security network. No thanks.
I just want a place that hasn't had the prebuilt kitchen unit ripped out.
Have never encountered that in my constant looking into apartments, and even asking if that's a problem that happens IC, because it was an initial concern. Maybe you were unlucky, because I highly doubt that people have been collecting and hoarding literal kitchenettes from pads into their pockets.
If the newly updated code doesn't clear items purchased/installed by players, then it might be worth bringing this up to staff. I believe that the purpose of the recent changes was to remove reasons to rent apartments with the hope of getting free stuff that the eviction code did not remove. Stuff added by builders should not be removed of course but it is possible for code to differentiate player purchased/installed items from build items.

Also, despite the assumption, the point of this isn't to play house hunters. It's another thing that could help reduce the lack of low cost housing. Not all apartments rented then released are done for the sake of playing lotto. Sometimes it's because a character wants to see if they like it better and it's an easy way to do this. It is one more little thing that could help keep apartments from being tied up for well over a week.

Why is stuff like that even removable? I feel like the stuff that comes with apartments shouldn't be able to be removed at all, or apartments should just reset after an eviction.
@Grey0 Slither himself straight up said that it clears items, not furniture. Pretty sure that means working as intended
The reason for *Fixing* the old code, it's nothing new at all, is just some apartments were broken and not deleting the red items out of it. They are all fixed per the game changes log and therefore, as intended
Wonderland & Emily,

Likely this is a build error. Installed items that are considered part of a build are made so they can't be uninstalled by players. If someone can uninstall what seems to be an integral item of an apartment, it's best to let staff know to be sure it's all good and you aren't breaking the @rules. If you find an apartment stripped of things you know they probably should have, it should be reported as it probably needs to be fixed and it could be a complex wide issue. Hope that helps!

It feels like a very complex system that could be made redundant just by asking around IC for what the apartments are like in X, Y, or Z building. And where units are not part of a building preset they probably should not be open intel anyway.
Can have it so the apartment previews only show the descriptions instead of any player added furniture to keep the element of surprise? I just think it'd be fun to read some of the redecorated apartment descriptions.
I think this is a great idea, although I have no idea how difficult this is to code.

Recent experiences have really soured me, especially when I've done my best to scout ICly for what various complexes are 'supposed to have' only to be met with disappointment. Moving and possibly reapplying membership fees to another flat just because it has a certain type of furniture seems like a drain of staff time and decreases apartment availability.

Viewable adjustment layouts could be added to the grid. Either ICly on a node or maybe by staff. Like the landlords marketing rooms online.

Eliminate the need to walk for to door. Put the info in one way to locate place.

As for decor and furnishings? Roll the dice, I say. Or ask around IC. See if anyone lived in it recently and knows what it looks like inside.

*viewable apartment layouts

Sorry for the dub post.
