RP Locations

@idea from Lucifer

Alright, a few ideas for RP locations that would be oh so very cool. ;)

A Gym, with actual coded equipment. (wether the equipment be just things integrated into the room, or actual coded things that have commands) You could ICly train for the skills we are currently getting OOC. Just for fun, but hell, could have a sparring ring in there with autocannons that keep someone from killing, while still allows people to spar to a point.

Yes yes… Gym, Library, Spa, Convention Center... all of that is coming!
a UNIVERSITY

and the LIBRARY, bring it back, but take out the learning code…or make it harder to do or something.

You guys are like 10 steps behind us… you'd be surprised how much stuff has not been released.

Library.. well... dunno if Damon plans on bringing that back or not. Had a lot of issues.

I loved the Library…but hrm, maybe make it a bit more slective....you can only learn about what you already have UE assigned to, and base it off of your intel...I know that sounds very MUDish but it may work,

i.e. If your knowledge on Chemical is terrible then when you pick up a book on that subject you can't understand it or something. if your knowledge is below par maybe you learn a little bit more form that book depending on how smart your are.....

and the university...would going there make your intel Stats better?

I just want a library with books I can take out. :P

The learning thing is WAY easy to abuse…

Damon actually coded a learning system to replace 'assign ue', the system being that if you had available UE it was expended when you made x number of checks in a given skill. This would actually create a learning system that would allow us to reimplement the library code, slightly modified.

If you got into alot of fights, you'd get better, if you drove alot, you'd get better, etc etc. If you don't know diddly squat about something you could go to the library, or gym, or university, or driving school, to get the base level or some training for cash, which would make more efficient use of your UE, giving you a slight higher gain per point spent.

Unfortunately, Damon's code was lost in a system crash many months ago, before he had chance to implement it… I think there's a vague plan to reimplement it some day.

It was implimented i think… lost an hour later
IN theory, this sounds like a good idea.

But, when you think about how many stat checks you run through just doing day to day things, you'd never get to spend any UE on other things … at least until after you've gotten good at perception and skills used for movement.

That was the whole deal with AE elsewhere. The system they had setup allowed you to basically boost your ass off. Everytime lets say, you attacked Mr. Skeleton with a sword, it'd roll for a blade boost. Depending on how long ago your last boost was, and how high your current level is, you might get one. If you do, it also rolls for a melee and armed boost.

Now, problem with -that- is there is no limit. Now, with the UE/AE mix, it could very well work… but lemee propose another run offa that...

Standard motor skills (moving, perception, strenght... basically your stats in general... they go up as you use them using smaller ammounts of UE, but they don't boost very often. Like, say Joe gets the hell kicked outah him by Casey. Then, after the fight, Joe's endurance, PCP, Aglity, and Str may go up just from experience and because his body was plastered. Either that, or have the same system above, but with a different set of points that uses it to boost. Then, UE can be given to your skills as you use them. If Joe used a gun and kept missing, then his pistol would go up a good deal (maybe, depending on rolls and such). But if he used MA and kept hitting, it would go up, but not as much considering he is making his attacks more effecient, but they still hit.

Then things like driving, piloting, and medical. You use em, you boostem. But there can also be classes for -everything-. Especially the techs. Considering, you don't want to use a Combo Breaker in order to boost your lockpicking stats, you may break it. Instead, maybe you can find an udnerground group to 'teach' you to use em over time for cash. (Assigns your UE to that area as it comes to you.)

Theres also the gym idea I had a while back that could go with this... i'll post exactly as it was written to *gen a while ago:

Ok, the AE thing might work, but sparring could make some chars very strong.  How about a student/teacher system? Those who are experience could take ONE student at a time. And its a given that a teacher learns from their student.  So if they are like in a certain room (IE training rooms on all levels) then you can have like a scanin system to train (max time everyday, or they tire out and are knocked uncouncious) the student learns at one rate, the teacher at another, when they get enough trainig points, the stat they are trainign on boosts, and it gets harder to boost everytime. Eventually the student gets as good as the teacher, and they cannot train anymore. You can even have things
for diff skills for trainign, like a fireing range for guns, or holographic victims for medics. jsut diffrent things for all of them. This can be abused, but I put a few safeguards on, and more can be added, just an idea, don't lose it!!!!!

Would that system cause people to spend more time 'training' then RPing?? Maybe i don't understand all of it…

But a gym would be like SHI only for stats instead of chyen. I like the 'use skill/boost skill' thing...but then ya got people just sparring all the time...that'd be boring and not to mention probably not the most realistic RP.
Or it could create more NPC killing players...*shrug*

Not really. It figures that if your character is combat oriented s/he would spend much of his time training and sparring. Sparring would be good and would probably create RP if the players involved went about it the right way. And it'd never create all out sparring to extreme levels because you would still be limited by your available UE, no amount of combat or skill use would change the fact that you would only benefit -if- you have available UE.
What about a gun club or shooting range, movie theater, VR videogame type place(dave and busters), resturants, a Zoo with all kind of mutated nuclear dismembered animals(for the kids:))

Not really places so much but stereos, walk-mans, disk-mans…..with that you could have music stores....say you were working at SHI with your head set on, every so often it would say <o/~Some day we'll find it...the rainbow connection...the lovers the dreamers and me~\o> you would be able to see anybody come in and until they poked you or shouted or something, and you wouldn't be able to hear them until you turned them off? anybody?

I dunno if they'd have gun ranges beings that gun ownership is illegal without a permit…but if ya got a permit...no worries. But it prolly wouldn't be on Red...or maybe there's a thrown together one somewhere.

I like the music player ideas Sath...very cool.

All discussions about how cool music players would be aside…

Where is SD going with the learning system? Has it been completely ditched in favor of the UE for logins/time connected method? And what happened to the university and such...all I'm aware of is the Library, in which you can look at tons of books but only get 'smarter' in that you can RP your character with additional knowledge they previously do not have.

Also I know more than one player has liked the idea of opening a gym, for stat training or just RP. Would that sort of thing even be worthwhile without the learning system?

Library's broked too. btw.
I don't see stat training or learning happening to be honest.  Stats are supposed to reflect who your character is.  If you learn a bunch about the grid, reaise your secure_tech or whatever.

It's supposed to be a reflection, not the first step.

I think the learning system was taken out because it was being abused and I can understand why.

The library's still broke… can't check out books ... (or take them from the library for that matter)...  not that reading would make you smarter, but it would be a nice thing to have back.
Yeah heh, I recall one RP event in which I was supposed to read up at the library on some omnipotent individuals…that sorta didn't work out heh.
