Time stuff

I just read in a NLM post on the grid, that New Germany and Franco-Prussian empire were in conflict. Forgive me if that crossed any IC/OOC border.

The Point? Well, I just think stuff like that should be mixed into the current timeline. Just stuff like who's gone to war, etc etc.  I dunno. Just a thought

Iga has done some work towards a much more detailed timeline, he might be able to give more insight into where we are with this progress.
The expanded timeline is currently sitting at a first draft state up to the year 2050. To give you an idea, if you look at the current timeline, it has roughly 40 items of note on it. The expanded timeline has about 3 or 4 times as much information.

Currently the items are geared on a larger, global standpoint. Mainly geo-political information, though large economic and environmental situations are noted as well when they effect politics in a major way. (IE: Blowing the middle east to radioactive slag.)

Seeing this post puts me in a time-line writing mode. I think I'll work on it today.

As a side note, in conjunction with expanding the timeline, Xeethot and myself are working on -MAPS- of the various regions in the Sindome game world. Primarily political in nature. We are also writing extended time line elements for these regions : North America, South America, Africa, Europe, Central Asia, South Pacific, China and Japan. This is, I will have you all know,  a massive fucking project. We are -building- a very complex and rich environment for you to work within, an environment in which Withmore City is but a small part of a global community. For the most part, it will mainly help you get into and stay in theme, and give you data to use to make interesting characters with interesting histories. It will also give us ways to make interesting news articles and political dealings on a global scale to flesh out the game 'feel'.

And, some day I hope we can have smaller sub game zones such as orbital platforms and other dome cities to play in. Keep in mind that is a distant and hazy concept, and may never happen due to technology limitations. But one day…one day way down the road when Johnny and Kevlar figure out this JavaDome thing, and when the MOO leaps to the next level...when that happens it may just be possible to have more play areas. Of course, we'd need more players as well. No point having 2 or 3 arco projects and the like all over the globe if there are only 10 players on at one time...

I am rambling.

New Timeline: in the works, and coming.
New Maps: in the works. (North America is about 75% ready.)

To add to Iga's post :

South America 25% ready…

Sweer.
Yes.  Quite ah..  sweer.  O_o..

Anyway, will mayhaps the North American map take into account the badlands, and actual landmasses therein?  Would be quite intriguin, especially were it ICly made available (which I'm assuming it will be).

Perhaps something akin to the old NLM StreetTerminal code.  Where yo uhave to be in the same room as the in-game map object you're looking at, or have one on your person (and be logged in to the SD website), in order to view the maps.  I guess they could be implemented similarly to how the in-city maps are in game..  but..  that wouldn't be very useful were you outside the dome.

Just some thoughs.

BADLANDS!

I knew I forgot something…

The map is mainly to detail the new geography and urban areas. (ex: Florida is basically a few small islands. New Orleans is under 85 feet of water. etc)

It also has the new names of cities, and the names of some of the sprawls.

How could you forget the badlands?  They're the thing that is right next to where we are!
SWEER!
I was wondering if the timeline would take into account histories that come from players hands?
OMFG I don't know what to do, that's super sweer!

:thinks of being a jet-setting richie fixer type.  Or being -internationaly- wanted

Heh, Before i knew what Neo Trans was, I thought the places it took you to were like, mini area's or something.
That would be totally sweet.
Speak for yourself, some of us are already internationally wanted. ;)
Uh, I have an international record….

o 0 O (damn canadians)

So the truth is out! I'm getting your ass extridited back here for criminal charges Jutun! You're mine beyotch!

Um…yes, I do add in elements from peoples histories if the history is of a quality that I concider worthy. Now, if you've ever seen some of the paragraphs I write when I deny a history, you'll know I set the bar pretty high. Then I usually give up because most people can't write really really well, and I settle for what they can come up with.

:P

But yeah, every now and then in the timeline's I've grabbed bits. Often it is more to keep someones history from being invalid. Fucking Miami...

*Has a coughing fit*
DId I miss something over the weekend? or did something happen to Neo Trans?
It should be noted that one of the big things Iga and I have been hashing out is what cities are underwater and what cities are destroyed and what cities have been 'resettled'. It's a fun (lying) process.
Just make sure Compton is in big, bold font on the list of cities that are underwater.
I hope a nuke like veered off course and hit Schuyler, VA.  That'd be sweet.
Don't you mean sweer?
I knew as soon as I started using it, it would catch on.  The life of a trendsetter is so hard.
