Red Sector Cultural Districts

I've decided to make some upgrades to the hub of our cultural melting pop known as the Mix.

Red Central will be seeing some very significant changes to aesthetic and cultural over the coming weeks.

I've designation four locations in the Mix to act as Cultural Districts that emphasize some of the primary cultures we see in the game world without without obstructing the hard Mix melting pot feel of the center of the sector.

It's important to note that while these Cultural Districts link very closely to the "Factions" of organized crime in the Mix, they do not set boundaries for the 'turf' these Factions control. These are cultural hubs, not territory markers for crime syndicates. Just because you're Russian mafia and you are in the Russian district, doesn't mean Russians generally enjoy the company of dangerous criminals.

The first Cultural District to be deployed is "The Gulag"

The Gulag is the new home in the Mix for the Russian & Eastern European culture. Each district is marked clearly with a 'gateway or entranceway' of sorts that's clearly marked so you know when you're entering a culture-dense area of the Mix. You'll find ethnic foods, cultural references, and references to the timeline for associate culture/race with events that happen in the game's History to try to assist in pulling new and old players alike into what it means to be "RUSSIAN" in Withmore or the Sindome world in general.

We'll be making some changes as we go but right now the Gulag is ICly deployed with new ambient population messaging, new descriptions, and a new vendor.

As I get further along I'll be updating more of the NPCs that are static to the area or that are based in and around the area such as the Arteries to include more ethnic/cultural distinction when you 'look' at them.

Please treat these Cultural Districts as if they've always been there. They're significant changes but you need to proceed as if you've never really paid that much attention to the people and the area before, you're noticing now the cultural distinction that's been mixed in with the dense crowds of Mixers.

Next Cultural District will be Chinatown followed by Little Kyoto and a yet to be named Latin Trade Collective inspired zone.

Let me know what you think, and I'll take recommendations for further improvements to the zones. Please keep in mind we're working with the existing space and not trying to add new rooms to each area.

I don't have much to say except that I LOVE THIS. Cultures in cyberpunk is something that for me adds -a lot- of flavor to the setting.

Thank you, Cerberus. I can't wait to see the other 'new districts.'

Chinatown very good idea!
I'm super excited for this!
That's a really Neat idea.

Good Job, man.

I hope you'll be turning equal focus onto the other areas of the game. Corporate society needs massive love.

No.
Then that's stupid.
We don't need to shit on Cerberus's efforts that way, Napoleon.
I'm looking forward to seeing it.
No one's shitting on his efforts. He's doing a fabulous job. But at the same time, the Mix has been getting major efforts for a long time and I'd like to see other areas expanded on that actually has significance for the rest of the player base not in the Mix. What's shitting on about that?
This has obviously been a massive undertaking and props to everyone who's been working on it. Augments the MOO just the way it needs to.
@Napoleon

You mean like the massive overhaul of the employment system and the giant spa?

There hasn't been anything added into the corporate areas to enhance RP lately… like checkpoints...
You mean, after all the great things the Red Sector players had before those tweaks? Yeah, okay.
Topside doesn't have the same cultural mishmash as the mix. Things like this don't really fit up there. Well work is always being done on zones, Topside doesn't really need a rewrite or partitions like this. It's all one culture: Corporate.
Or the Corporate owned and operated space station and the Giant Space Casino? And the FreeSky re-design and the Praetorian… And... Oh. Why do I even bother defending myself?
Will the map be update to show these districts?
The same terminology could be thrown back down on the Mix as being, what, one generalized shithole of downtrodden people, but clearly it's not. The other sectors shouldn't be so rigidly characterized, and that's what's making it suffer as a niche of the playerbase.
We can look at updating the maps if needed once we've got Grid 3.0 out.
I am just starting out, but I am very happy to hear about the different districts in the Red.
No one's talking about coded love. I want to see more /thematic/ love.
There are certainly things to be done Topside Napoleon, but the street design are both in and out of character more controlled. Withmore's topside was designed. it's like a city center. It's designed to feel corporate and the powers that be would never let one ethnicity do shit to that. This is something that was always supposed to be part of what being a mixer was like, but wasn't represented in the game itself.
Corp culture could be the corps themselves right? E.g NLM culture or VS culture etc.
Oh, this is nice.

Korea and China town, Olvera Street, Little Russia, they definitely have a feel and look when you drive or walk through.

It'll be fun to check out the updated rooms!

(@Napoleon,

I know there have been several areas added to Topside, but before I assume what was going on through that head of yours, what were some of your ideas? Theme-wise, as you mentioned.

Start separate thread with them. I'd be interested in reading them.)

Sure. I've been like, thinking of some ideas for a good while now. Once I get back from out of town this weekend, I'll start a new thread addressing some ways I plan to enrich my own personal perspective of the corporate world I'm playing in.
For clarity. I consider Korean culture to be too highly affected by Japanese conquering over the centuries to justify giving it it's own place.. So Little Kyoto will have some Korean hints in it.

Chinatown will be mostly Chinese, Mongolian and Southeast Asian culture mixing.

LTC zone will be South America, and a hint of Mexican so Seven Ecks doesn't get uppity.

I've got plans for the Middle East/Indian cultures that aren't centered around Red Central and I'm not going to give any detail about that just yet.

Oh neat!
SHIT YEAH!

The time for some Calle 13 (or Calle 20 in the future) blasting from stolen Kois is nigh!
