Better MOO Client

So, I noticed we still refer people to use Pueblo on the website, but basicly it's insanely hard to get working on a 32bit operating system, I figure people just give up when they can't get it working and don't try the game.

I had to convince someone to use SimpleMu today, instead.  So I'm thinking.. maybe it would be good if that was updated, to something that worked.  SimplueMu is my recomendation.  It's shareware, but it never expires.

Thats a link to it's download.com thang.  I dunno, just my two chy.

The easiet client that I've come across would be GMud.  I've been using it for years.  I dunno the exact site, but using yahoo or any other search engine will yield plenty of sites to get it from.  Very user friendly…...
I've got a new section covering MOO clients started, but it got pushed to the side when IRL was taking more time away than before.

We will be recommending VMOO officially I think.

Personally, I've used VMoo for the longest now..
My experience with VMoo was great - until I ran an adware scan on my computer (of course, registration would fix that, but I'm poor and greedy).

I now use MUSHclient and have very few problems with it (and again, most of the ones I do have would be fixed by registering the program).

Basically, all I want is something simple that I can change the colours in (black text on light grey, thanks) and that automatically logs to file. VMoo and MUSHclient both do that, but VMoo doesn't have ads. That's the basis behind my choice.

TELNET!
I'm sorry to hear that reefer…
We're still telling people to download Pueblo.. I don't think anyone who downloads Pueblo gets it too work.  I know I never have and no one I've talked to has.. I know theres a Client section in the works.. but if I could make the recomendation of remocing the Pueblo link as it might frustrate people into not playing the game when they can't get the client too work?

It could be replaced with a link to VMoo even if it didn't have a write up about it, just a link to a download, because I think this might be a hinderance too new players comming aboard.  Also, the 'Connect' button is show up as telnet://(none):(none) on the main page..

Yeah definitly. Mushclient.com works good too.
For some reason, I just really didn't like Vmoo. Some people like it, I didn't care for it a whole lot for some reason. Personal preference, I guess.

I used Pueblo for the first year or so that I played SD and really liked it, then I made the difficult switch to SimpleMu after I couldn't get Pueblo running again after a reformat. I'd definitely recommend SimpleMu and MUSHClient. A better link to simplemu might be http://simplemu.onlineroleplay.com/.

I'd have to say that Pueblo and Zmud are probably the two worst clients to recommend to novice players, because there's the high chance that they either won't get it working or they'll just stop playing after the zmud trial is over.

We should probably make a recommendation for a good client for Mac users as well, but that's not my department.

What colors do the rest of you prefer? Up until recently I thought that most people used grey text on a black background, but it appears that I might be mistaken. I'll have to stop giving Nemisis crap. ;)

We recommend light gray text on a black background with the 'bright' setting from our @ansicolors command being pure white. For each color, we recommend 2 distinct colors for regular and 'bright' versions of each, not simply a bolding as we've found bolding to make distinguishing characters more difficult in the high speed spam of combat and intense situations.

But thats just our recommendations. :)

That's actually my one dislike about SimpleMu in comparison to Pueblo. SimpleMu's bright colors look okay, but the normal colors don't stand out enough for me, which creates the temptation to make everything bright. Pueblo would just bold the bright text to make it stand out, which I liked.
V-Moo works great for me and if you allow Aureate and Radiate when running adaware or spybot (or any other program for spyware) then you can keep V-Moo without paying for us poor cheap people out there :)
I can definitly support the fact that Pueablo frustrated the fuck out of me, and I -did- quit when zMud's trial ran out.  Me and Damus are going to hand out flyers soon, we need better client recomendations!

*prods and annoys*

*apologizes*

Following my recent acquisition of not one, but two new machines, I took a bit of time to try out new clients.

As such, I'm not sure if it's that I'm more familiar with another program, but after having played around with VMoo (for the second and third stints at the program), I went back to MUSHclient after a few days.

Tab autocomplete is a great thing, kids. If VMoo has it, it's an option that needed to be turned on and I didn't find it.

I also wasn't fond of the colour options (eh, I'm a girl, I likeses to set up things so they're pretty) and it didn't make settings as obvious / easy to find as I think MUSHclient does.

They're both trial programs, they both have restrictions / issues because of that - but I find waiting ten seconds for a splash screen to go away is far superior to knowing that I'm running adware (and an inferior product for what I want, to boot).

I don't recall why I changed from Pueblo - I found (after some searching) the new version that was updated relatively recently, and it's what I had installed on my parents' machine for when I went visiting and wanted to avoid the family. Someone (Lujan?) suggested MUSHclient a while after that, however, and I was sold.

In my current financial situation (starving artist living on unemployment benefits), I find the AU$30 registration fee a bit steep (I'd actually spring for $15-20), but the way it's set up is far more enduser friendly (I believe) than VMoo.

*curtseys*
(I can't wait for school to go back so I can write more comparative essays that are completely subjective and contain very little of real merit.)

You're a girl? Hey that's kind of cool.

…but more importantly actually...is there any way in SimpleMU to break up the room descriptions as you move around? I'd actually like to see some spaces between the chunks of text to make it more readable..

And the good thing about the aureate/vmoo thing is that I don't think I've ever seen anything but the default ad for vmoo, that comes with the program. So, the fact that your spyware detection stuff is flagging it does not mean the software is actually doing anything. You'd see the ad change, but I don't think it works anymore. So basically, its a slightly annoying ad window that doesn't actually show ads.

Umm…I like use that linux thing and uhh...terminal treats me good but back in the ol' days of windows...let me think:

Zmud: Useful as fuck if you like to cheat.
Gmud: Basically, Zmud's little sister: she'll do it for free but she's a bit buggy.

Rapscalion (For da Mac): Quite nice...has a nasty little trial killer.

Honestly, with all the computer know around here I'm surprised we don't have a sexy little java client on the site. :boom:

Wasn't someone working on one?  I know we have at least two players who were coding their own clients.  Not sure if either of them are still into it though.
Damus and I were working on one awhile back.  It was functional, and supported color, but it didn't have anything special options wise, I'm not even sure if it supported logging.  I do think we had number pad movement though, heh.

I just lost interest in it when I found SimpleMu, since SimpleMu was basicly the same client that I wanted to make.

Ask and you shall receive.

Its pretty nifty, open-source java client by the people over @ mudmagic. So if you wanna get fresh and rip into it a bit like a good lil' hax0r, go for it.

For the more stable, mudmagic also has a multi-platform client. Check it out. Its like Zmud but FREE.

You may wanna check yr coding there, monkey :)
I really Do like SimpleMu but dont wanna pay the fee to get the 'registered' version cuz it seems like every thing i try to do says sorry you need to register first. and that pissed me off but other then that its a great software and have been useing Mushclient which is the next best thing i think… well if there is a free version of the SimpleMu will someone plz post it?
Vmoo did release a 1.2 version which does not have the ad banner. I have it. If anyone wants it just email [email protected] and i'll get you either the file or a link to it.
Hm.. I've been using SimpleMu for…ever and I've never had to register it. Where'd you get yours?
I recommend tintin++ for you console dogs.
