Suggestions for the Homepage

So, I've been eyeing the homepage of the SD site more and more, it being a while since damn near anything has changed on the thing. And it occurs to me that you probably have some ideas of what your SD homepage should look like.

So … suggest some stuff you'd like expressed on the homepage, it could be a widget (like the poll) or it could be some suggested change to the text, what information you might like presented, or anything really. The only thing I ask is that you don't point out something that 'sucks' without explaining why and possibly offering an alternative. I look forward to your input and critizism.

Oh, and there's the possibility of me giving players the ability to webpages for their characters on the SD site as well as managing IC 'corporate' webpages, so if you're interested in contributing such efforts, don't be afraid to mention it.

RP logs, a mention of the current SD year, make 'Media Feed' work or ditch it, webpage profiles, updated maps (use the ones from NLM terminals), more frequent polls with a different script (current one frequently buggers its cookies), number of logged in players on the who list popup, removal of asterisks from 'fuck' on front page, update to admin list, and free cookies for all.

Good suggestions, Spaze.

On top of that we should also have:

Some animated gifs (lots of them) of cyberpunks doing cyberpunkish things, like maybe some of the emoticons from the BgBB with the guns and blood and stuff like that. Yeah… just spread them all over the page. And some of thoes explosion and balls of fire animated gifs too. And a Knight Rider bar that goes back and forth, and a repeating .wav that plays the Kit sound (wooo-wooo) to go with the Knight Rider bar. And the Knight Rider theme song as a midi. I mean Knight Rider's pretty CP, right?

And definately make the text blink. Nothing get's attention better than blinking text. And make it scroll too, so I don't have to move my eyes to read it.

The poll should use checkboxes instead of radio buttons, and the static text should be made into a graphic so we can have it in a cooler font. And in multiple different colors too. It's just not colorful enough as it is... we need more blue on white. And some big yellow 'under construction' signs. I mean I see thoes on all the webpages, so they must be popular.

And break up everything into it's own frame too, so you can scroll all the different parts of the homepage independantly. That way you can have graphics that are wider than the screen.

And replace that first paragraph with a paragraph about how amazing ninja's are, and about how they're always flipping out and killing stuff.

You should also make a text only version, with the graphics done as ASCII, for all the people who don't have a browser that can display graphics (like lynx).

For what to put on character pages, there's plenty of stuff. You could put artwork / drawings of your char. You can give more detailed information about them, or additional background info (you can already willingly show your chars history and such, so I doubt this should be an issue for those who want to). People could post some of their own RP logs if consideration is given to IC info and get the permission of other people involved. High profile characters can put little stories or blurbs about things their char has done. By that I mean is well known or very public things, that newcomers for instance would easily find out. I'm sure there's more, but I'm going back to RP now.

I'd like to see more stories or feelings… maybe have them cycle through on the page... from characters. Present. Dead. Non-existant. Or future. Doesn't matter.

I like the idea of many short pieces (like currently exists on the home page and have been attributed to the musings of a street samurai) that change each time the page is viewed.

Maybe even have a link to another page that contains -all- or the best of the short pieces so a visitor can get a heavy dose of something to exite them quickly.

The best part is, the pieces don't even have to have really happened.

I know we have some writers in the community.

Whatcha' think folks? �Could you write a powerful piece in 150 words or less?

and we should have a more up to date project list call it "THE LIST" and update it every 10 seconds (well not really, but more often than every 6 months) and put every task you guys are currently preforming, and will be preforming,  on it so we can really see how much cool shit you guys do.  oh yeah and make it so we can vote for which projects should be preformed first, and which can  be waited on.

I'm actually going to pull the project list entirely. What were actually working on can't really be discussed for a number of reasons both good and bad. Thats why I haven't bothered to update it.

I'd like to have a pic and introductory paragraph for all the archetypes. We've got one for the street samurai, we need one for the law, the fixer, the whore, the reporter, the corpie, etc.
