@who

I was just thinking about someone's @wow about why people all suddenly vanished off the @who overnight, and I came up with a few points I may as well bounce into public for discussion..

The @who is ooc. Thus, removing yourself from it for IC reasons = bad.

I've done it myself, I'm not pointing fingers, I'm just wanting to make this point. Surely, if people feel they can't trust thier fellow players not to abuse the ooc information that @who offers, then, it would be better to simply remove it all together. Afterall, with the possible exception of seeing admin on it, and perhaps the number of total players, what other purpose does it really serve to players, other than to dangle the proverbial carrot of ooc temptation before them?

P.S.

I love you all really, and my intent is to create RP for you all, not slay the masses. I'm not pariculalrly into rampant PKing, but, if code is continually thrust on me, then I'll use it rather than RP beyond it. I'm happier posing than watching scrolling red text, but don't assume because I will take combat into my RP that I'm a bad person for it.

:)

I'm sure none of that made sense, and, you're more than welcome to flame me if you see critical flaws in my logic.

P.P.S

Finn wears womens underwear, I have pictures.

You don't want to know why I have them, trust me.

Or perhaps just moving the discussion back there…

Well, having it list the number of players online and whether any admin are online is a must.

It's also handy to have the ability to see if someone you've been wanting to RP with is floating about, without having them on your AIM or ICQ list (something I try to avoid most of the time). Mind you, it's a slightly IC usage ("I'll wait till I see their SICID"), but it keeps you from logging off sometimes.

Idle times. Knwoing someone's idle time is handy if you SIC 'em and they don't answer. If they're taking a piss and didn't go @ooc, it can have IC repercussions in certain cases. Sort of a pain.

But even so, the @who is pretty trivial most of the time. Hell, i'm on @invis and I don't even know why. My motto by now is, 'Let them come.' I just neglect to take myself off @invis.

At any rate, the way I see it, though, is that so long as it isn't abused and it doesn't really harm anything, why take it off if it can be handy in certain cases?

yes.. this has been talked about for a while now…

how about only showing, # of players, admin (if they want to be shown as available to be pestered) and those who are idle more then 5 or 10 mins?

i dunno. this topic -does- seem talked to death and nothing wasreally decided last time other then things shan't be changed.
