a couple of things

Initaily, as I was about to make this post, it was goingto start as a question, but as I waited for my painfully slow dialup connection (Yes, I'm a peasant and don't have broadband) to finish loading this form, I had a few bright ideas. Well, you might not think they are, but who's posting this anyway?

I was thinking about the drugs in game. There's loads of different kinds, but, I have no idea what any of them except v-202 do. Now, icly that's fine, I mean, I'm not playing a chemist, or a pharmacist, why would I know? But, what I want to know, is if there's an IC way to find out, other than blundering around asking people who've played for longer than me, or, bugging the every-busy admins for something which is really nothing more than an idle curiosity.

All that thinking, aside from making me hungry, gave me an idea, that's rapidly warping into something else, so I'll type quickly while it's still clear(ish) in my mind.

Being able to buy reference material for a variety of things would be good, but, books are old and dated, so, It'd be cool if you could buy an e-memory module that had stuff already on it. Maybe one that's read-only or something.

Then I got to thinking about other possible uses for this idea.

All you budding writers out there, who've written stories and what not on these boards, why not turn your hand at making that talent an IC source of income? write a story, whack it on an e-memory module, and sell it. I know I for one would pay to read a good story, and sometimes when things are a little quiet IC, rather than getting wasted, my character could read your story. I know I've spoken to at least one player in game who expressed an interest in writing fiction for the globe, well, why not try it that way?

I'd like to be able to label e-memory modules so that you can find out what's on them without having to spend ages swapping them around, too.

I -love- this idea. Yes I said love. Its got so much potential.

1. It uses an already coded item.
2. It could inspire people's creativity.
3. You could get people setting up "book" stores in their cubes and lockers. Charging so much for a module and offering so much as a refund upon its return. (Think like the refunds you get for recycling in Oregon and stuff.)
4. People would be able to write under anonymous names.
5. People could write non-fiction as well so there would be stories about all the seedy goings on in the city, abuse at the hands of judges, sweatshops, child prostitution, stories of survivors. The stuff you usually see on the non-fiction section.
6. It could creat local celebrities. The better written stories would become more popular and have a bigger demand so they would of course cost more and sell out faster,  thereby creating celebrity status for the author(s).

And yes I will say it again, I -love- this idea. I'd buy modules and read them. Hell I'd sell them too. If I got a bug up my ass I might even write for them.

The possibilities are endless.

Someone could even find Luc's diary and sell it in a module format, so you'd have shock "books" too, tell alls.

"I was once a Judge's Sex Slave" Tonya Muffin tells all in her new book.

You could also get advertisements for new books on the NLM boards.

See I could just go on and on, but I'll shut up now and rp.

I like the idea myself;

And what better than a public library. Couple of job postitions for a few of the sindome addicts out there and should people not return their books well;

Step 1. First they get a polite warning saying that your getting fined.

Step 2. A not so polite message, "Oi damn you give us back the book or your knee caps get it."

Step 3. The book return squad introduce a baseball bat to book stealing swines knee caps in as unpolite manner as deemed fit.

Step 4. The book is returned to the library for the enjoyment of everyone else.

Nice! I think it's great. Somebody start it :P

Hehe funny thing is no matter label or not, I can never remember which of my 1.44MB discs has what on it.

But back to the original question, there should be an IC way to find this info. There was talk that once the Matrix was done there would be a way to download that information.  Anybody could if you could find the source.  Which makes sense because right now you'd be hard pressed to go anywhere in your town and just get a list of drugs, their ingredients, what they do etc…you'd have a MUCH easier time checkin' the I-net.

But you could easily have the emodules and then print the stuff out for people to keep instead of handing them the actual module.

Someone get goin' on this!

Now I can't truely comment on this because I can't afford the much need equipment to mess with modules. But I should think that the admin is going to be an absolute nightmare to the point of theres all hell to kill and you only have an AK with no bullets….

But I ramble...

I shall get to the point.

Labels... If you look at the stock list and all you get is a list of e-modules the adminstration (IC) of this system would prove insane. Before such a system can be put into A-Team like action characters need to be able to either name the modules like they would material or like the character name add a prefix to it.

So if the changes that allow labels can be made to the e-modules I know for sure that I would write random amounts of stuff(some might consider this a bad thing.) and I'm sure others would as well.

While on the subject of printing stuff fomr an e-note

Am I just being a retard, or is newspaper the only suported format at the moment?

Actually now that I look at this from the great height that is standing upon a chair to avoid the biting confusion of crocadiles….

Damn did it again.... note to self.... try to avoid rambling.

Anyway...

On the other side of the pond that is this forum a small... [discussion\war\truth throwing session] delete as app. is being waged on the topic of money and how some have it and some don't and that on the most part the people that don't are newbies struggling to get started… But that's all there in the Bruce topic so go read it if your remotely confused. Well there could be a possible solution.

If somewhere on Red there was some public place, hells only knows what the 2080 version of a computer cafe or whatever... just somewhere where random joe public who can't afford to buy an e-module reader(I forget the name.. you know how it is, you commit something to memory and someone feeds you some acid which is the human eqivalent of a magnet over a hard disk... fuck did it again...)

Anyway, Even then newbies could buy e-modules and write stuff too them, read them and stuff. The options then open to them would be either try and sell thier story, try and get it published and stuff or use them as resume's for companies on Gold or wherever. Instead of then having to talk to the npc the e-resume could be dropped into a mailbox at the door and the admins or whoever can read it later and deal with the IC needs afterwards.

Well it's an idea.... sort of.... oh stop looking at me like that.. blame someone else... It's never my fault.

Yeah, newspaper is the only supported format and as far as I know you can't even print things that are more than one page long.

I love the idea of "books."  I'd be willing to be an author ICly.  I hope someone gets it going.

First off, let me say, I love this idea.

Second, it completely meshes with existing stuff AND is what we're looking forward to in the future on the matrix as well.

I'll be adding support for labels today, its quick code.

Wow! I had an idea people like

I feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

Then again, I've been drinking..

Tylissa: Why are you waiting for someone else??? DO IT! Hehe.

Go get em Tyger.
