Finding good RP is not always easy, but is rewarding when you find it.
CP is a genre of paranoia, biz just isn't (if the players are smart) conducted out in the open.
Look around, find out who's hanging where and try to be there when and where the action is. That's the CP way.
Depending on the time zone you're in, this may not be easy.
If all else fails, xhelp me and I'll see if I can be of further assistance.
Um.
Lost my train of thought...oh there it goes again. Mmkay. There really /is/ a lot of worthwhile RP going on out there...somewhere..I hope....but if you're not involved in it at the moment all I can suggest is generate your own RP. Let your character be flexible and see where spur of the moment impulses take you. Even if you think nobody's there to see you develop your character, be creative.
Yup.
Gotta run.
Stick with the game, I love newbies, Hoo-rah.
*runs*
Who says hanging around in bars is a bad thing?!? My char meets -lots- of people in bars…and even for an IC reason...I mean...it's incredible... ;)
But yeah, Tiger. The RP in our Sindome evironment is great when you can find it or even generate it yourself. It may seem like things are slow some times (or most of the time if you're on for like 3 days straight without stopping *cough*). But yeah...just keep with it and you'll be hooked...trust me.
Seriously, don't try to be friends with everyone. If you're too chummy with everyone, you can't fuck them over, unless you're only -pretending- to be chummy. ;)

Of all the soundbit sized definitions of CP, I like Bruce Sterling's the best.
"Cyberpunk is, the unholy alliance of the technical world and the world of organized dissent."
Nice people don't dissent.
Nice people aren't cyberpunks.
Nice people are cannon fodder.
Cyberpunk is not a nice world.
There are no happy endings.
It's always raining.
Someone is always out to get you, or at least that's how you feel.
Whether you're a have, or a have not, you want more and someone is stopping you from getting what you want.
Maybe your boss won't promote you if you're not one of the 50 million people who are unemployed here.
Maybe that guy won't give you any more courier runs and you don't have the chyen to make tonight's rent.
Maybe you want to get off the drugs you're on (because your life is so shitty and you wanted an escape) and know that some corp has a nice easy cure but won't release it for sale - maybe they did release it, but only the really rich can afford it.
That guy at the bar next to you, how come he has the latest implants and you don't?
So you have two choices here.
Are you going to sell your soul to some corp so you have nice living conditions and at least -some- security, or are you unable or unwilling to?
Once you decide that, you know where you stand and what you need to do.
Otherwise you're not a cyberpunk, you're cannon fodder and a pawn for the ambitious 'punks out there.
*wanders off to figure out how to make the characters feel the sense of desperation that seems to be missing*

will you find more rp if you screw everyone? probibaly, does that mean you HAVE to play like that? no, I don't want to speak for jink, but I don't think that's what he meant.
There has to be someone you trust, kind of at least, and watch your ass while you're doing it.
What I said, is don't be nice.
Nice people help someone they don't give a shit, about find something that was stolen.
Cyberpunks help someone find somthing that was stolen, have the person killed, split the booty with the killer, get beat up a bit, meet the recently cloned at Genetek with some wild story about how charX killed the cloned char and beat the crap outta you and convice you to help them kill charX because that's what they wanted all along.
Nice people go to work in thier boring corpie jobs and get it crammed up thier ass all day by their power trippin boss.
Cyberpunks take it from the boss and when he's not looking, have him killed and make sure someone else get's blamed.
And yes, as a n00b (player or character or both) pissing off anyone who can kick your ass is not a good way to live.
But that doesn't mean you have to be nice to them.
My advice?
Pick one person to trust and nine people or entities (corpX, corpY, WJF, Olga, who/what ever) to hate. Be ambivelent to the rest unless they intentionally piss you off.
Use the person you trust to help you 'take care' of the things you hate and help them do the same, until it's not in your best interest, then screw them over and pick a new friend.
Just make damn sure you blame someone else.
But nice guys finish last.
In a world of take or be taken, nice guys get taken from, and either start taking themselves (therefore turning them into not-so-nice guys), or they die.
Friends are good. But from an RP perspective, enemies are a lot better. This isn't DaysOfOurLivesDome. It's Sindome: The dome of sin. If you wanna pose sticking your mouth in all the places the sun dosn't shine on some chica, be my guest. But you can use a chat room, or AIM for that. What Sindome offers you is a persistant world filled with corruption, greed, and technology, where sometimes the distinction between the three is quite blurred, and just surviving can be a challenge, let alone making something meaningful of your existance.
There's plenty of SoapMOO's and DramaMOO's out there. If you want friends, try one of thoes.
If you want to commit murder, frame your boss for it, get chased by the cops, and get away with it… Welcome home.
-Kevlar
For instance: You don't need to hide from a dead guy. But in SD, you have to if you want the player to think someone else did it. Because otherwise, they'll OOCly tell all their friends, or perhaps they'll make a -new- character who mysteriously has a grudge against yours.
Strange how that seems to work out, but its a fact that's made light of itself on more than one occasion. If you wantyour character to have a merry good time, making money -all- the time, growing more powerful by the second.. perhaps you should try one of those Dragonball Z MUDs out there. But whatever you do, stay the fuck away from here. Especially if you take offense OOCly because of IC actions taken against your character. For fuck's sake, grow up.
This is a game. And oh, I know what's gonna be said. People are gonna start blabbering about how "Oh, your character is so powerful and you're an oldbie (or midbie, depending on how long you yourself have been here), and you have unlimitted weapons and ammo and enough UE to rape a village full of amazon centaurs."
Screw all you who think that. Yeah, Ike's got a good amount of UE. But he's by -no- means the most powerful person in the game. Not by a fuckin' longshot. Hell, he's nearly been killed a few times within the last month or so. Once was within the week. And for all you people who think all Ike -does- is fight. Screw you, too. Anyway, back on topic.
Have friends. Hell, friends are great. Go bust some goddamn heads with a friend by your side. Go cap some Judges, or rob a store. Get buddies who can help you with a bunch of shit, but -REMEMBER- that if they give you favors, you will OWE them. And they might just collect in some way you won't like….
Making them *badoomCRASH* ENEMIES. At least until you pay them back. Then maybe things will cool down. Or maybe they won't! Maybe you'll have to start scheming against the fucker(s). Maybe they've been scheming against you the whole time.
What I'm saying is this: Friends are good. But you can't trust friends. Because friends get in trouble that you can't help them out of, and fuck you over to survive.
That's all I'm trying to say, and I think that's what Jinkorei was referring to. Everybody gets in trouble here. If they aren't now, they will be soon. And if they don't do anything wrong, someone else will frame them and make it look like they did. There's no good way out. There's no possible way to get the "best outcome." Sacrifices must be made in all occasions. If you -do- reach what you think is a great outcome, good. You got lucky. It probably won't happen next time. That's CP in my view. You always end up getting your hands dirty.
Kay so… Some know i don't play a bad-ass char and i've never really wanted or felt the need to (despite strong hints that i should "be more CP"), got something to say? Say it. Dont hint. But by no means can Bias be described as -nice-, not at this point. Cannon fodder? i guess that depends on the cannon. Shes petty and anti social. So, nice?
I don't think there really -are- any NICE chars wandering around SD. Just because you've never seen them kill anyone or they arent planning to take down the corporations with a Molotov cocktail doesn't make them nice. Anyhoo...
To any newbies or people making new chars, you -don't- have to play an Evil Bad Ass of Doom (tm) to get decent or even great RP. I hope no one around here has been trying to convince you of that as gospel.
I've had some fun RP with Bias running around being an airhead. But it's what -i- wanted to do at the moment. CP is different for ev-er-y-one!(L) Silly My CP is better then your CP. wanking.
Oh and drama isnt bad- you know. Each char should have a way they handle certain things. Not everything IS visible and out in the open. Not all actions are transparent. People need to stop telling- other people how to RP.
I just hope SD doesn't degenerate into a generic horde of prefab, mirror shade toting "CYBERPUNK" characters.
Bah. Been staring too long at FLASH MX.
*eyes the thread*
Wow, this thread has sure wandered off.
Uhm.. right RP! FUN! Go get your char drunk in a bar, or high or sleep deprived or starved or lost or battling a sever case of herpes... And RP it. Just dont twink out by suddenly sobering up or whatever when the RP starts getting weird or not according to your plans.
Fuck plans.

I couldn't have put it better myself, so i won't even elaborate.
