I just wanted to make sure you all heard about the MMORPG that's being worked on that will let you all play in the Matrix in 2004.

You can signup for the newsletter which they claim will get you info about the BETA TESTING. Fun Stuff, I'm sure.

Not much to see yet, but we should keep our eyes out for the machines.

Johnny, I think that might have been a bogus site. honest.  I have never recieved spam mail in a select account until after i signed up as a beta tester for this. and after i signed up, i didn't get a thx for signing up letter or anythig abuot beta testing or the matrix.    so .. yeah.. youve been warned.

I hope its better, and more bug free then fucking Final Fantasy 11 is.  It's taken me over 4 hours, just to -install- it, and register it online.  Now its downloading 1100 files in an update that it wouldn't let me past.  God, what if I had dialup.

FF XI is worth it, trust me.

Keep in mind the game has been out for well over a year in Japan, so Americans have to accomodate a year's worth of fixes.

what I wanna know is why do they still even use the name final fantasy when they never use the same charcters, or a continuing storyline?

probibaly because the name sells the game….

10 was nice, storyline too linear.

FF7 set the standard for RPG games as far as the genre is concerned.

FFX-2 and FFXI are not really Final Fantasy games, they are just playing off the name as far as I am concerned.

FFX-2 is a sequel, something that FF isn't about. FFXI is online… and while it looks like it -could- be interesting, it still is online. Something that goes against the series.

The whole series runs on a -UNIVERSE-. The final fantasy universe is full of chocobos, summons, magic, and a host of other nifty things. But it isn't a world of sequels and online games. :P

I'm not dissing any of them... (except 8 and 9... *coughs*). Hell, I'm gonna buy FFX-2... I don't think I'll buy 11 though, saving my internet time for the matrix. ;-)

I remember when Final Fantasy was just Final Fantasy, and that was actually Final Fantasy 3, but it was still 1 as well, and it was 8 bit, and it rocked.

Well, I guess as long as we've changed the subject to Final Fantasy, you guys know there's gonna be a direct sequel to FF7, right?  It's not gonna be a game though, its gonna be an hour-long or so movie.  From the previews I've seen, it looks sweet as hell.

*shrug*

But who knows how good it'll actually be..  Apparently it centers around the conflict between Cloud and Sephiroth.

Here's a little article gamespot did about it.  There's probably plenty of other shit out there about it.  Its called Final Fantasy VII:  Advent Children.

Final Fantasy VII counts as cyberpunk, right?  Even if it does have chocobos and materia..

and 8 bit rpg's are the frickin best, dragon warrior series, final fantasy,zelda,  faxanadu (more action than rpg)

and even non-rpg 8 bit games kick ass if anyone has anything bad to say about the first 3 castlevainias I'll come to your house and kick your ass. :)

but the best rpg, hands down, ever,  the phantasy star series. wow mindblowing for it's time, and still worth playing today, great graphics, great story, great monsters, and the whole generation thing, let me just say again wow.  and of course I spent many of my 16-bit hours in front of the shadowrun game, though I always thougtht it was missing something.

Xenogears was too hidden, wasn't out there like FF7. (I bought it, going to play it once I get some time…)

Phantasy Star... now theres a name I haven't heard in a while.... I didn't play the first 3, but I played 4. Lemee tell ya... that game rocked, hands down. Period. End of story.

Yes, actually.  I've seen it previewed in several gaming mags.  I'm sure if you do a google search or something you'll find plenty more.
