GM APPLICATION #6

This plot is submitted for player review until June 26th, at that time, players will be required to vote for the submission they think is best. Nothing below this point has been touched or modified by me in any way. This consitutes the last accepted submission at this time.

THE PLOT: "Doppleganger"

-=PC's See: Slowly NPC's start coming up with flawed clones, simple things go wrong when they are being clones, etc. (Note: Since the clone is a "system" thing, PC's will always be allowed to update for "free" after paying if they get a flawed procedure. An "attendant" will notice, and tell them there was a malfunction, can they please sit down and try again.")

A "new" company starts providing clones, slightly cheaper. Not much, just a smidgeon. They are the company that the faulty clones are coming from. But the rates are enough to attract new customers, and some PC's.

It starts out being 1 in every 20-30 clones, somewhat randomly. It should only happen to a few PC's in the first stage. If they choose to investigate, it need not happen in any others. It will NEVER happen to WJF employees/PC's with "real withmore" jobs.

As PC's investigate, they will find NLM postings that are sort of cryptic about the situation. If they bother to try investigating those, they start coming up with proof that ReKall is storing the old clones and has cloned from that data. (Only NPC's to keep the effects away from affecting people negatively who have put in time on their chars, and to avoind any potential "you didn't like me, so you screwed my char" comments.)

Eventually a clone that looks like one of the NPC's but is committing actions that are COMPLETELY unlike that PC will surface and cause problems. However Judges will not arrest the clone, only the PC. (Again note: There will be no murders/killing of the PC for the clone's action…resisting arrest however is quite different.)

If they have someone who can access the network of the new company, they will see that it is the first stage in a test of cloning from older tissue sample, and providing them with different memory sets/programmed commands. It is a goverment sponsored experiment to help boost the industrio-military complex.

After getting what info they can from the cryptic message sender, the confront the "new" clone company who offers to buy them off to insure their silence. If they accept, they each get an amount of chyen equal to the cost of three or four new clones. If they refuse, they can try to take the info public, where it will be broadcast over NLM, warning people about this new company.

Either way, shortly after confrontation, the new company closes, and the employees are never heard from again. If seen on the street, all except the cryptic message sender seem cheerful but vague when asked about the company. The cryptic message sender is never seen again.

-=What's really going on:
Rekall and the government of Withmore are indeed experimenting in making clones and programming them with a different set of ideas, the theory being that one person can actually provide two or three workers/infantrymen if cloned correctly. They use a fony company as the front for the operation. One doc in the program gets a shiver or two about doing it, and ends up acquiring a conscience over it.

He places the NLM ads, and attracts the PC's, giving them what data he can without being busted. He does it for free, and the promise that the PC's will help him out if he gets caught. They don't kill him, since they need the in to the secret info.

As the gov't and Rekall finish up the first phase of the experiment, they are busted by the PC's. The info goes *poof* and they claim innocence. If the PC's push, they are marked for hitmen, and will be cloned from material that is "clean" and supposedly doesn't have any of the info. (NOte, if the PC's send themselves NLM mail, they can easily get around that.) If the info goes out over NLM there is official "denial" that either Rekall or the government knew anything about it. However, they now have the info for the future.

When they get caught, the pretend to close up shop in a hurry, really storing the data for a day when they will need to clone armies/labor in a hurry. Rekall offers to buy off the PC's, to ensure their silence, and lets them know that they are marked, in case they ever dissent.

-=POETNTAIL BRANCHES/PROBLEMS:
+In the future, clones are made of PC's or well known NPC's that cause problems. The idea of "real identity theft" comes up.
+It is traced back to the government and a PC organization for governemnt "monitoring" is set up, leaving it open ended for conspiracy theorists/PC governemntal actions. Perhaps a PC mayor, or city councilman.
+If the PC's sell out, further opportunities for them to be dragged into helping corps with shady ideas, especially Rekall with sabotaging other medical company efforts.
-If the PC's don't bite, there is no way to get them interested in the damaged clones, and a different "buy in" has to be found.
-Distrust of ALL cloning is caused on Red and we have a larger percentage of Perma-death until people realize it is foolish.

POTENTIAL FOR PC'S/# OF PC'S:
*This plot can be as small as two or three PC's, as large as ten, the only real requirment being that they would get to know each other over the course of the plot.
*It could be run by only one GM in the tightest circumstances, however the fact that the NPC organizations are multi-faceted, it offers the oppurtunity for many GM's, each controlling one part of the whole.

RESOURCES
2 or 3 real NPC's to be the Doc with a Conscience, and Representitives of Withmore Gov't and the "new company" in cloning.
Enough Chyen to buy off PC's without flooding the market
A facility for cloning/data storage
Potential network to be broken into

not too shabby, a well thought out plot, that involves a poriton of dome life most of us take for granted.

Live WJF:
1)  Relatively small amount of the PC's would be directly involed, although a lot of secondary involvement, general media type issues.

2)WJF members getting preferential treatment yet again

3)Not that much real action/active rp behind it, more of a humdrum media even issue, unless we have a bunch of Devon/Buchenwald/Astro/Lucifer turned evil clones wandering around.  That might kick ass.

Dead WJF:
1)  will utilize a large portion of dome background that is already in place, ie we already have several cloning labs, one could be converted.l

2)simple, yet well thought out, there is a certain beauty about that

3)possibility of bringing back some heavy hitter bad guys, and allowing those who do end up with an identity theft to rp out of their typical character, since people in general won;t know if it is the real person or the evil clone.
3)

Heh, this one pretty much sums up the entire storyline of the Sixth Day… almost like a sequel to it... and there is one very large problem with it... Cloning more then one clone of a person is HIGHLY illegal. It is -SO- illegal, that the Cloning Tank keeps records of who is alive and who isn't. You try to clone someone who already has a clone and it -won't- -let- -you-. In other words, the multiple person thing doesn't really fly... I love the memory change idea... and if instead of multiple clones the GM worked it out with PCs to do it (for the risk and stuff...) It would be an awsome RP... but the multiple deal just doesn't work with what is already setup in the Dome.
I see some strong points in it and some weak ones.  I mean, even if cloning a duplicate is illegal, if the government is doing it, it's not a hundred percent sure that the law will stop them.  It also doesn't really require any new companies or corps, so it could be run at any point, rather than when we have the free resources.

Still, this does seem a bit like the Sixth Day, like Luc said.  Not necessarily bad, just…  A bit modern media-esque.  It also does have the more sub-plot feel, when compared to some of the other ideas.

*Can I fit two more pennies in the fishbowl*

I agree…it is Sixth Dayish.

Has strong points though. I like the idea of a dopleganger. Doens't have to be a clone, could be a disguise or something allong those lines.

WJF and those with 'real withmore jobs' should not be excempt from anything shitty that happens to other players, that would be unfair.

Clone Data is protected by world wide agreements and laws and are highly regulated, as Lucifer said. But then, when did gonverning bodies give a care for that stuff anyhow.

I'd say this is fairly well written out, if lacking a bit in originality.

Then again…  To counteract all you people, picking on this one for exempting certain people...

Perhaps the "rumoured corruption in WJF" exempts them...?

*Plink plink sound the coppers in the well*

I don't see why we wouldn't be exempt, personally i think WJF should have its own cloning facilities in WHJ, but basically we are better than you in the dome and get better treatment.  Thats how the dome works.  Its not supposed to be fair.
Heh, glad Casey thinks so highly of everyone… *gags*

I actually see this -another- way. The group controlling this wants an army of sorts, no? Besides a few choice fighters and street thugs... the best fighters in any number will be the WJF. I'd think that they would be *PRIME* targets, not exempt from it.

Giving WJF thier own cloning facility? No. Don't be greedy Casey... look what you already have. Coffins, ammo machines, armor, guns, hella authority, VERY high tech stuff, and most of all... The Enforcer. By far one of the best weapons in the game considering it cannot be grabbed or stolen. Need I forget the abilities of said weapon? Rifle, Shotgun, 13mm (cannon) pistol, and grenade launcher? Geez. No one else on the street can legally carry a gun as of yet, and you are asking for even more? Wow.

Now... back to the plot. I think it'd be a very good WJF plot if switched up a bit... say... a test for the Judges. Hell, with thier recent actions, Casey and Dominik are starting to look like liabilities... I'm not gonna list reasons, but they are there. Creating copies of them physically, yet, change the mentality in order to make them basically drones? Hell. If I were Withmore, and this was happening, I'd get every Judge that was decent, clone them with changed mentalityies, kill the originals, and make copies. Your talking a very deadly army of totally loyal soldiers... Now THAT is interesting.

*Now, wheres my fucking credit card... I've run out of pennies...*

Changing mentalities?  That is starting to sound like Ender's Game, (heh just started, thanks Luc!)  and almost like Judge Dredd.  You get in to the whole breeding people again.  And yes WJF is better than the rest of the dome, and while this has nothing to do with the plot, starting to be liabilities?  I have been since like when, how about when I joined….(from the horses mouth).   Then changing their metalities Luc?  That is telling a PC how to act, or getting an NPC to be a PC, that is a fuckload of NPC's, one for every PC.

My 1 and half cents HEY I AM POOR DOESN'T MAKE YOU BETTER THAN ME

That was what the plot originally called for Dominik… did you even read it?! Doppleganger... wow... thats hard. Anyways, yes, it would be large RP... but not every PC would have a double (or triple). And it would be highly logical to perform it on the WJF... you are already a lose cannon... why not get a Dominik that would do EXACTLY what Pratt said... without question? It dies, you clone another, and it still is 100% loyal... no worries about dropping grenades on the streets... Just have him lock his arms around the criminal and squeeze him to death.
That would take a lot of brainwashing….
*Sticks a metal rod into hot coals… draws it out, spins Dominik around, and official brands him as MORON*

Alright Dominik... lets learn to read here... You would have clone doubles with different memories... No brainwashings... just altered memories in place of the junkyard Dominik calls his brain... Like in the 6th day... the memory flash that records or writes a memory... you take that, edit a few things... put in a few more... remove some... and blamo... Insta-Zombie...

*My credit card is over its limit!!!! GAH!!!!*

I understand that, and yes I'm a moron, but I don't know that it is done that easily, specially not to a dumb ass like me
