Keep your boring Dells, and home mades, and 'AMD' chipsets. They are about as sexy as a 300 pound russian woman. Mac's are lithe, fast, slick, and smooth. They glide through the computer world as the elite machines they are. The top end Mac's cost more because you are paying for the status of having a Mac.
Anyone who tosses about tech specs and 'oh, they have less games' or 'they are good multimedia machines' is just not getting it, and will probably be driving that boring old HP desktop for the rest of time.

Yep that's the 5th element. Anyone who hasn't seen it better go rent it or so help me bob ( ;) ) I'm gonna track you down toss a copy in the DVD and pin your eyelids open. It's boardering CP (a little jokey rather than gritty) and Ruby Red is one of the most hilarious characters in a movie I've seen. Not to mention, Lalu (sp) is double fine.
Alienware is overpriced gaming hardware.
Macs are sexy machines in the sense that they are sleek, sophisticated, beautiful machines.

Oh btw: I'd dish out the money for an alienware any day(if I had it) and gaming wise it'd blow any mac I've ever read about out of the frickin water, not to mention the key draw to non-mac CPU's: their easy to upgrade, that's right kiddies so when your beautiful mac is out of date I'll be swapping the guts out of my ugly case, and not dishing out another 2 grand.It's just like murph said with metallica though, the die-hard mac lovers won't even be tempted by the notion that there may be a better AMD/pentium machine out there, regardless of the specs their shown, so it's a loosing argument.
I don't really agree that you're paying for status…you're paying for something that does show you appreciate a little style with your substance (you're supposed to be cyberpunk, what can't you fucking understand this?), and care that your computer is more than just a machine, and appreciate a company that puts as much effort into designing the outside as what powers it.
Ask Johnny, ask Iga, ask Kevlar...2 people in the tech industry, Iga a very artistic person....what machines they prefer. Mac all the way, you better believe it.
If you want a very beautiful machine that's extremely good at doing things that matter, Mac is it.
I'm glad that Alienware designed a machine for the sole purpose of getting 12-year-olds to beg their parents into raping their wallets , but I'm past that.
Rip on Macs all you want, but gaming aside, most people have a very hard time finding a reason why Macs are 'bad'. That's like saying "My Geo Metro is a BAD car because it won't do 0-60 in 3.4 seconds." Easy to rip on something when you're pointing out that it can't do something it wasn't really designed to do.
When was the last time you had to deal with some spyware? The latest virus that no-one can protect against for another couple days? Funny, haven't had to worry about any of that. I plugged my brand new iBook, and was surfing the net 5 minutes out of the box, without worrying about AV, updates, or Spybot. It's worth the money, thanks so much.
Apple is a bit overpriced, but not nearly as much as most people argue. You get equal/arguably greated performance, and a very sexy machine.
And about that Ferrari comment...you should know better, at least I thought you knew better. I'm not delving into the reasons you pay more, but you should know better.

(Lotus, on a side note, I don't think they are over priced. We chated at work here about it…and we figure the solid and functional intergration of hardware and software that you find on a MAC is worth it, just in the time it saves loading drivers, downloading drivers, and troubleshooting incompatabilities with hardware components. Like you said, out of the box and ready to run.)
Oh, and Photoshop CS and the Adobe CS suite suck.

Oh by the way, it didn't even take me 5 minutes to get online with my "new" p3 600 compaq armada, so that's no real feat. and I use tons of file transfer, and have never had any real Virus/spyware problems, so whatever on that.

On the topic of Macs. I'm all about the sexy look and shit, but I grew up using them, and i prefer PCs. You can get a Sony Zion or whatever those cool looking PCs are if yuo want the actual machine too look good..
I'd prefer to spend half the money and just build it myself though. $600 bucks got me a slick case, 512 chip of DDR, a 2600+ athalon proccessor, a DVD/R/RW/CDR/RW, A normal CD drive, a Radeon 9200 video card, and a Creative Soundblaster Audigy Pro 2 sound card.
Thats damn decent for 600 bucks.
