Music for the Dome...

Now, I dunno how many of us have downloaded the Media pack (I have) and while it's cool, if you're playing for hours on end, sometimes MIDI begins to grate. Not a criticism of the pack, merely a matter of taste. I'm not sure if it's been discussed before (probably has) but if people listen to music while playing, what kind of tracks/bands do people listen to?

My Sindome Playlist includes:

So Long -Everlast

Breathe, Minefields, Firestarter and Baby's got a Temper - Prodigy

Dragula, Superbeast, Roundhead - Rob Zombie

Black Sunshine, More Human Than Human -White Zombie

Confusion -New Order (The Blade Warehouse scene)

New Disease, Can't be Fixed - Spineshank.

No, Bleed, Eye for an Eye, Back to the Primitive - Soulfly

Rape Me, Heart Shaped Box, Dive, Stain, Lake of Fire, Where did you sleep last night, Drain you -Nirvana

Novacaine For The Soul -Eels

It Takes Blood and Guts to Be This Cool, King Psychotic Size, Little Baby Swastika, -Skunk Anansie.

Lysergic Funeral Procession -Down

Everything Dies - Type O-Negative

Exit Music (From a Film) Karma Police, Paranoid Android -Radiohead.

Princes of the Universe, Headlong, Gimme the Prize, Another One Bites The Dust - Queen.

For Whom The Bell Tolls, Of Wolf and Man, Master of Puppets, Enter Sandman - Metallica (S&M versions)

Nitro, Bad Habit, Self Esteem - Offspring

London Calling -The Clash.

Pretty -Sex Pistols

Disarm, Quiet -Smashing Pumpkins.

Sympathy For the Devil -GnR

Angel of Death, South of Heaven - Slayer

The whole of 'The Sickness' - Disturbed

Scarecrow, Psalm 69, Hizbollah, The Land of Rape and Honey, You Know What You Are, I Prefer, Flashback, Abortive - Ministry:

At the Gates Of Midian. Cthulhu Dawn, Lord Abortion, Death Magick for Adepts - Cradle of Filth.

In tthe spirit of sharing, anybody have other things they listen to?

Craig/Jackson

"Damnit! I want to be Disreputable!"

Like I said a long time ago somewhere….
I love listening to some Rage Against the Machine when I play SD....songs like Mic Check and Darkness remind me of the dank streets of the Mix and help set a personal mood.
I tend to listen to a lot of Fear Factory, SoaD, Godsmack, Disturbed, shit like that when I play.

Like to listen to some Public Enemy, NWA, Eminem, Dr.Dre and stuff like that, too sometimes.

Not very Cyberpunk, but Tenacious D's "Fuck her gently" is always worth a listen.

:)

Woooooonderboy …. what are the secrets of your powers?!

[someone needs to bring back my Tenacious D CD damn it.]

I listen to whatever I can get my hands on or am in the mood for, lots of punk.

If anyone wants a really awesome cover of "Somewhere over the Rainbow" let me know and I'll email it to you when I get back from my trip in a week.

Yes, that's right… I'll be gone from August 11th-17th

I look forward to drowning in posts I need to catch up on when I return. I'll miss you all.

Bye!

Same as above… heh... anything i can get my hands on that fits my mood and i can load into winamp... but lately that's been,

coil, the legendary pink dots, my life with the thrill kill cult, obscure depeche mode remixes, dirty goa sets and uhm.. heh the b-52s...

can't you just picture love shack playing as you wander into the orafice... no?... oh ok... nevermind then...

*cough*

and yey for vacation! 3 weeks away for me... goin' road trippin' down to nevada... :D

now .. i'll need music for that....

I saw the TKK live back in '98. They put on a bizzare show. Got my arse pinched by the guy who was the base player then.

I am more on the lighter scale of the music world, so when I'm not watching cartoons in the background with my daughter I listen to a bunch of stuff. My favourites are…

Cherry Poppin' Daddies, Everclear, Social Distortion, NOFX, Type O- Negative, R.E.M., Skynyrd, Smashmouth, ABBA, the Beatles, the Beastie Boys, Beethoven,...really anything that strikes my fancy at the time.

First of all, illegal MP3s suck!
I buy all my music, period.
What's good Cyberpunk music…hmmm

I can name some reocrds:

Danzig, 6:66 Satan's Child & 4

In Flames, Colony

Alice Cooper, Brutal Planet & Dragontown

Black Sabbath, Paranoid & Master of Reality

not to start a horribly drawn out debate that no one can ever ever win… but...

*pets her mp3s lovingly*

i would very VERY much like to find whole CD/record's with the remixes i'm listening to right now... if i did.. i'd pounce on them like a rabid dog in heat and kill anyone who tried to wrest them from my grubby lil paws... grrrr...

anyhoo...*cough* i have milk crates (yes plural) full of records and shelving full of CD's.... of much non obscure and much very obscure, legally purchased musical enjoyment...
(music come right after uhm.. rent... and tuition/school supplies and before food in my monthly budget.)

but, i've long ago decided that i am not going to buy an album where i frankly only enjoy one or two songs... i don't have 20-30 bucks a pop to spend on cd's here when i just really want one track... and most of the time.. it's not even the released single that i can go out and buy for that one song...

and many compilation albums with one or two good tracks are...  well.. icky.
record company guy - "hey lets put out a compilation album!" some other record company guy - "sure with what on it?" 1st guy again - "man, it doesn't matter, stick at least one good track on there and people will buy it."  *cough* ok.. maybe i'm a bit over simplifying and generalizing like mad... but meh... i've found out about to many damned cool bands that i wouldn't have otherwise if i hadn't downloaded a random mp3 one day. and frankly... i'v gone through amusing hunts and trecks to find original releases and BUY them... heh... a good part of my vacation fun is dedicated to scrounging in small record shops in san fran and seattle... k.. now i'm rambling horribly.

*goes back to petting her mp3s*

hrm... you know.. this post really -has- no point...

but a feel a can of worms coming up.

*wanders off to get coffee*

Deep Purple - if only because I was listening to 'Never Before' (on Machine Head) the very first time my character died. Can't listen to that song without swearing profusely. ;)

Assorted pre-1979 Black Sabbath.
Billy Idol.

David Bowie.

Donovan (YES!)

Speaking of which, some YES also.

Rush, sometimes even Genesis, Dream Theater.

Ministry, Devo, Ananda Shankar And The State of Bengal.

Ecophony Rinne by the Geinoh Yamashirogumi.

And when I'm really getting into my character, Shane MacGowan n' the Popes, Pogues, Blood or Whiskey, Clancy bros and whatever other painfully irish things I have laying about.

Speaking of painfully irish things, my fiancee is slugging my arm as we speak. Ow.

Where was I…Ah, Men Without Hats also, some older Alice Cooper (Blue Turk is a perennial favourite).  AGH. Someone make her stop writing on me!

Uh, Vaseline Machine Gun by Leo Kottke for some reason fits when I'm driving around Red.

Uh, the Doors, Trans Am, and to conclude, Zeni Geva.

Oh! Oh! And the Blade Runner soundtrack.

Blade Runner soundtrack, good choice… apart from track 6, It just sounds out of place next to the rest of the CD.

I listen to mostly Metallica, Iced Earth, Megadeath, Sepultura, Naplam Death..... Iron Maiden.

[Fu] Put that bat down.

Round it off with a few choice classics;

Orff - O Fortuna
Simon Barber - Adaigo for strings
Wagner - Ride of the Valkyries

Stuff by John Williams, Eric Serra & David Arnold.

Metal death and Classic harmony, What else would anyone need.

what bat, what?

wasn't me, it was that bloke who just ran off over there…

*points off into the distance*

Really.

Orff - O Fortuna

Actually, you should try listening to the entire Carmina Burana over one of your SD playing sessions - one thing to be said, whichever part you're on, it always seems to flow no matter what you're doing IG. Although that bit "Mandaliet, Mandaliet, min geselle kommet niet" makes me want to put my head through my monitor.

I like Sunny Day Real Estate.. Killed by and Angel is one of my favorite songs of all time, I would say..

Also, "The City Sleeps" by MC 900 ft. Jesus seems rather fitting to Withmore's mentality. Its the lyrics, really.

I also listen to alot of One Minute Silence and System of a Down. Some Rammstein, Taproot. Hell, even Vast.

Can't forget my techno/industrial. Paul Oakenfold is a favorite, as well as Chemical Brothers. Oh and I forgot about Prodigy. Deftones, too.

Shit, I listen to alot of music. hm. There's alot of other wierd shit, also. I have a rather cool techno remix of "O Fortuna" That I actually consider to be Unit I.K.O.'s Theme Music… of course that side only comes out when Aikao's pissed. :B

(Edited by Aikao at 7:10 am on April 27, 2003)

I forgot to mention:

DIO, certain songs, not all

Megadeth, Countdown to Extinction (name of this album fits SD perfectly)

Children of Bodom, Finnish black metal band, very melodic but still heavy as Hell, Alexi Laiho maybe one of the best guitar players in the world, seriously!

Motrhead, certain songs, not all

HIM (known as HER in the states), some of their heavier songs from Razorblade Romance and Greatest Love Songs vol. 666 albums.

Ozzy Osbourne, songs like No More Tears, Breaking the Rules, Shot in the Dark, Suicide Solution, Mr. Crowley etc.

Iron Maiden, songs like Fear of the Dark, Moonchild, Number of the Beast, Hallowed Be Thy Name, Powerslave etc.

*points to the guy who only reads the boards, himself* Hey, look who actualy posted something!

Ok, now as far as music I personaly listen to quite a bit of shit, but unfortunately my music library hasn't reakky expanded for a bit. But one sone song that stand out and actualy reminds me of a particular event in SD history would be Open your eyes by Staind. I also like to listen to alot of Tool, Disturbed, urmmm… all kinds of shit. Ohh, there's Hatebreed, thanks Dave! I can't really remember what else andcan't seem to find my CD's at the moment, kinda stoned.. hehehe :)

Hrmmm... this was kinda fun, maybe I should post more often, what do you think? Blah! that's all the rambbleing I've got for right now.
                                                         Noone special,
                                                                 Marco

Quote: from Valeria on 6:48 am on Aug. 12, 2002[br]First of all, illegal MP3s suck!

Well, not really.

People who rely souly on illegal mp3's suck. I can thank illegal mp3's for a good portion of my CD collection. I've heard more bands from downloading stuff from Napster and similar places, that I otherwise wouldn't have heard any other way.

I may hold a few albums of illegal mp3's for months at a time, but, if I deem them worthy of keeping, sooner or later I buy the CD, which then stops them being illegal, since owning the CD gives you the right to store mp3 copies of a track for personal use.

I have to mock anyone who tore into Metallica for suing Napster though. People accused them of "Selling out"

I'll tell you what, I'll come around your house, and take a cut of your wages every month, then, when you try to sue me, or involve the police, I'll call you a sell out, too.

Maybe Metallica themselves didn't, still don't need more money, but, they set a precedent, by which the smaller acts who were, and still are getting raked over the coals by people pirating thier music can try and protect thier interests.

</rant>

P.S. DJ's are not rockstars.

P.P.S. The Monkies were the first manufactured boy band. I blame them for everything I hate about the modern music industry.

:)

Am I the only one to think that the musical background best suited for our beloved li'le moo can only pass through some of electro-funk/neo-electro's biggest names?

Hell yeah, Covenant and other industrial bands totally rock (you can find major electro influences on some of their songs too, the gothyish variant, sort of speak, I'd revert to Fischerspooner as an example).
Hell yeah, I've been listening to way too many visual-key Japanese bands like Luna Sea, Malice Mizer, Dir en Grey, L'Arc en Ciel (course Mini Moni always seems to pop out in between, Mari's soooo cute ^^).
And sure, there's times when I'm so blown away that all I can really stand are nice ambient tunes like those by the hands of DJ Krush (his work with Toshinori Kondo totally rox), Boards of Canada, Kid Loco, Jazzanova and so on.

But hey… what the hell am I listening like 70 percent of the times?

You guessed... stuff like Japanese Telecom and Le Car, their harsh smacking beats and eerie synth grooves;
Mouse on Mars and Funkstorung, they simply took electro and drove it through a phreakin' paper shredder, so pretty sweet;
Man Parrish? Mantronix? Sure, bring out that sugary ol' skewl flava', origins are always nice to be praised;
Remember that gotyish stuff I was talkin' 'bout? I think I kinda made this up but hell, I sacked both Miss Kittin & The Hacker and G.D. Luxxe along with Fischerspooner inside;
Fancy old mod-werks that blasted off the amiga demoscene? Okay, I read ya but still haven't found -the- group for it, just a few loose tunes like Clatterbox - Power up / Computer Rockers - Get Ready / Dopplereffekt - Denki No Zuno;

And then you still have way too original projects such as Console an electro-pop styled solo project from the wizard behind The Notwist;

And… and... man, way more but you're already gonna flame my ass to death for this post so I betta' just grow an extra pair of legs, won't even dare to look back.

.

(Hummmm... wait a minute, can you believe this shit?! The bastard goes through all this and manages to forget Kraftwerk?! Rant his hairy ass!!!)

I have actually started a Sindome Playlist in SoundJam MP (the OS 8 version of iTunes.)

So far we have:

Gangsta Gangsta

Breathin- Tupac

Look up the lyrics on the net, ignore all the references to "gangstas" and "niggas" and you'll see how appropriate this song is to Sindome.

Streams, baby.
