OOC criticism dressed up as IC scorn
How could this impact players learning the game?

Maybe I'm seeing things. If so, ignore me.

Let's pretend we have a new player. Eager and excited to join the game. Tell stories. Have adventures. Maybe this kind of game is new to them or they have a style that is very different than most Sindome players have adopted. Maybe they go through a handful of characters as they try and learn the game and people think they see similarities between them.

This can happen. Has happened. I just want to urge people to maybe consider how their characters react to this ICly. Maybe don't flirt with the 4th wall to bring your OOC assumption that these are all the characters of the same player into the IC world. Maybe don't bully them ICly to a degree beyond what you see done to other characters. Maybe try and help them understand the game better in a way less likely to scare them off.

Personally, I don't think this kind of thing is in the spirit of cooperative competition and is borderline meta. And while PCs should not get a blanket free pass, this kind of behavior runs the risk of making the player feel unwelcome. Maybe that excitement and enthusiasm gets knocked off them and they leave the game. Maybe I just have to sit here and frown at what comes across to me as OOC criticism dressed up as IC scorn being thrown at these characters/players.

Everyone should play how they want as long as they aren't breaking any @rules. If this is how you like to play and staff sees no issue with it, so be it. I just hope that some will consider this angle is all.

I completely agree. Any time there's a new player that stands out it seems they just get beat into the ground until they either become like every other player or leave. Not a fan. Also the whole thing of people saying one character is similar to some other dead character is just dumb.

As a player, you are not here to dictate how every other player plays the game, especially if those other players are new, or just playing new characters. Don't force everyone into your small mold.

We're not suppose to allude to someone being the same type of character/same character over and over. I know this was a theme a few years ago and staff got upset at players for doing it, because it's cheesy and unfair to others.

There's a lot of people who have similar styles of characteristics through characters. Some of those are the same players. Some of them are new players, some of them are old players. There's a lot of older players, honestly, that play the same type of character over and over and we don't see this type of accusations and mocking just because they don't cycle through as fast.

I agree with you wholeheartedly, Grey, that we shouldn't go through these types of IC performances and accusations. If there's an issue, there's the @note system. Use it. Let staff address if it's a big problem and if it's disruptive to the community. By piling on someone with thinly veiled OOC accusations done ICly, whether by one character or groups of characters, we're being just as disruptive as any perceived disruption of the accused individual or individuals.

This is so refreshing to read. As a new player I was kind of getting a little concerned with some behavior and I'm glad to know I'm not the only one!
I just treat every new character as a new player, I don't associate anyone with anyone, then again I have OOC turned off and stay away from it. I think that's the mindset to have, to not try and pair so and so with so and so.
Maybe it's cuz I have OOC turned off as well? But I couldn't tell you who plays who. 100% IC immersion baby!
I don't think they mean the OOC chat.
I will just add for my own sake that the corollary to players not calling attention to someone recycling character concepts in a short period of time is also that players should probably not be recycling character concepts in a short period of time.

Plenty of players have somewhat limited roleplaying range (including myself) and will stick to what they know but I hope players will think twice about ditching characters after a day or three or a week just to slightly remix the ingredients because it's really a drag on everyone else and contributes to a culture of no one wanting to invent effort in new characters until they've proved themselves as somewhat committed.

I really enjoy seeing the crazy and wild characters. Let them flourish. I think a series of wild new characters appeared over the course of the last two weeks and they provided such an entertaining experience that people are still bringing up bits of the characters history they shared over SIC. You need a full spectrum of personalities to have fun.
Wild characters as played by players who really invest in the full depth of those stories can be great, especially when they roll through all the lows as well as the fresh highs.

I'm a bit more mixed on characters who are wild because their players are planing to booth them in 12 hours and feel no special need to adhere to reality in the interim. They're okay in limited quantities when the pot needs a bit of stirring.

Still at a minimum I feel like players have a responsibility to one another to be up front these characters may not be around tomorrow or next week, which some players will do in-character and I always appreciate them for doing that.

I'm pretty well over characters interviewing for jobs, borrowing money, talking big plans, and then killing themselves two days later though, if that wasn't obvious.
