Patent Reform

There's a issue in a constant state of flux these days that corperations are distinctly on one side of, and We The People are very firmly on the other side of: Patents.

There's this huge push by corperations that want to be able to patent their software methods, and Microsoft is one of the loudest here in the US (not to mention bullying of the EU).

So, today it came as no suprise to me to today find a Google News Alert about Microsoft calling for reform of patents.

What I did find facinating was that when I actually read the article, it sounded like what they we're proposing wasn't such a bad thing.

I guess this shouldn't be too suprising, since Microsoft recently got bitten by the system themselves…

By way of explination, there was a Google New Alert right above it in my gmail which pointed out that tempatures have plummeted in Hell as a cold front approaches. Lows are expected to reach 40c below 0, and an instant-frostbite warning is in effect in lower pits. When confronted about it, The Dark One only shrugged and said, "You gotta pick your fights."

Eh…if you love something set it free. I guess patents are good. They don't pose much of a threat to the open source community even though I'm sure they'd like too. Mr. Gates ownz enough of Apple and Microsoft that all OS's will be the same pretty soon anyway. Especially with my friend Darwin's implimentation of Open Source goodies like Wine. As long as they protect the little guy trapped in his cubicle. Its not like I pay for anything anyway.
Gods.

Intellectual Property. Patents. Copyright.

Oh how I loathe it all. The only people being really protected by IP, Patent, and Copyright laws these days are lawyers and barristers. Ah, cest-la-vie.
