Question

What happened to Strafe?

No warning of his diappearance to us icly.

ah you've gotta love beta, the payout system went screwy so the admin were forced to take Strafe out of the game again until they figured out why it was stuffed
I swear Strafe was Female…really...i did...
*grin* I'm pretty sure that Strafe is female too, otherwise I'm going to have to re-format the way I ask her for a job
Strafe (female) didn't 'go screwy', it was plain fucked from the beginning, just that no-one seemed to care… Finally someone decided to take notice of what I'd been saying for -months- upon realizing all the MOO's players were making crazy money...

But anyhow.

Last.

Yeah I did make crazy money with her.
Even though I only did 5 runs with her.

*pouts* It was nice. hehe

I got another tiny question.

Since this moo is in beta stages.
How is it going to affect us with our stats, money in the game? Is it going to be a total reset or just keep going the way it is?

I'd like to know why by BETA TESTERS didn't consider it their duty to report an outragous payout.

I'm rather disappointed.

The exact details haven't been fully finalized, but the general concensus is that there will be a partial reset. Since much of what players have gained during beta will have involved factors that have been or will be changed before we leave beta, there will be a reset mainly effecting code related factors.

Many older characters on the MOO now will remember the days of the library, a place that visited daily would allow you to boost stats and skills. It was removed, but not before many chars had used to to gain months worth of UE. The recent issues with Strafe are another of the many examples, players gaining vast amounts of money from a system that should never have been in place as it was.

It's more than likely players will all be put through chargen again and I think there was a discussion about a player by player assessment, allowing admin to give players -some- of what they had back, so you won't be starting totally from scratch. In terms of RP, all that has gone before will probably still stand, characters will keep their 'positions' within any groups, businesses, links and associations etc.

Cash may or may not be touched, I doubt it will be zero'd, but possibly a percentage cut done globally across the MOO…

Stats will be cleared and players guided through chargen (which will hopefully be a pure webpage chargen system by then, fill out the webpage character sheet and click submit. ).

Equipment will be sorted through by admin in some kind of admin/player discussion, allowing players to keep -some- but clear out hoards. This will have to be done to reset the load system for the end of beta. (the load system controls how many of any given item can be in the game at any time in relation to the active player base.)

I -think- that covers the main bases, and I must emphasize that this is just my thoughts on something that has been vaguely discussed, other admin may be able to clarify, confirm or deny the information in this post.

No doubt there will be -many- objections to a reset, which is why we have provisionally opted for a system of admin/player liason through the reset process, in an attempt to be fair to players while rebalancing factors thrown out of whack by the quirks of beta.

Hopefully this won't discourage anyone from their involvement in the MOO, we value every one of you as beta testers, players and contributors to the Sindome project. And personally, it's very gratifying to see active RP and play in a beta project... Damnit, this is starting to sound sappy...

Ahh, might as well go the whole hog...

Thanks, one and all, for making Sindome what it is and will be. :)

I'd just like to comment on that Rastus.

A reset is such a loaded thing. The players that have been on for ages, like some have been for like 2 years! Or MORE! Don't they deserve, if they've been active, to get some sort of bonus? They did go through all the horrid things like constant combat TB's and problems with follow and…oh, wait, that's right. BETA testers. We all knew it was sticky pyjama's when we signed on. heh. All I'll say is this, whatever way it goes, I'll just keep playing as long as it doesn't kill the RP I've done. Actually, hell, even if it does kill the RP I've done I'll play. Even if Admin decide that all excisting characters are beta and to be killed when beta ends, I'll still play. May not revive Nic, and I would be a bit miffed to see him go, but hell, it is just a game.

Though it would be interesting to see someone who has been here like a year or two RPing and boosting stats, then dropped to chargen levels, and taken out by a newbie. Well, maybe not interesting, but I'm sure a lot of anger would flow.

ummm.

oh, and Johnny, as to stating price problems and stuff, I do belive I've sent in some complaining about Withmore Wholesaler Runs as well as store prices slipping to pre-economy levels, and how the prices we are getting paid are a bit out of whack. I got paid 1600c to deliver a LETTER to Jimmies. Wasn't this the sort of thing that got that system overhauled in the first place? I swear Bishop tinkered that code a pile.

hrmmm. BOOTY!

I think you said it …

"BISHOP"

In response to the reset post *coughs* *SAPPY* *coughs* by Rastus, I just wanna say that the player/admin thing is a good idea. But there are a few things i'd like to suggest to add on. First.

The whole load system i believe is crap… Its an awsome idea, but I think it is set too low. If there is a massive demand for something, why would a supplier cut off supplies? They'd make a fortune! Of course, it does add to the RPness of it... get the connections, get the gear.

As for resets. Partial stat reset would benefit everyone, but two years down the line after beta... would we be forced to go through another stat cleaning because we are getting new newbies? Its just the whole idea that those who have been here spending hours on hours getting UE, bugging things, testing, being guinae (SP?) pigs, helping with descs and typos, etc. We get a nice char with pretty good stats... and then, BOOM, we all drop down. Now, that doesn't seem too bad until you take into account alllllll those stat-rolling systems that are currently set for the mid level of current players. After the reset everything involving stats (save fighting) is going to be massivly fucked up for a while until players get up... Or are locks strangly going to make themselves stronger as time goes on... *eyes "Twlight Zone..."*

Now the biggie... money and gear resets... People usually go through painstaking RP to get such items... taking those away will be a problem. I use to have a nice hoard... and I sold it off to be re-circulated. Now I have a set that could be considered hoard, but I don't think so since I've been spreading some stuff around to keep it fair.

Now comes money... and this is a big one... If you take a PERCENTAGE down, then there will be many, (myself included) that will be unhappy. Some of us have worked our fucking asses off to get cash in major RP and jobs... a percentage would drastically give a disadvantage to those with more, I mean. If you take the avearge and lets say cut down 30% of all money... for a semi newbie with 30K, its no big deal. what, 9.3K lost in some bank problem? Well... what if you take a year old player (ahems) and put that percentage down... let me tell you... 9.3K is nothing to what they may lose...

I know this is to even it out a bit more... thus the play/admin thing... Just my opinion on it... take it how you will.

*Drops his 2 cents in the collection bin..*

The problem is that you got those stats through broken systems and you got a large chunk of your chyen through broken systems. Take beta as it should be.

I believe that characters in Asheron's Call got whacked when the beta ended. We're at least being nice and letting you keep your status.

The new Windows 'Preview Release' expires after 180 days, in fact, the version I was running on one of my dev machines disabled itself last week.

The point of beta is to test, not to take advantage of the bugs. The main point guiding our decision, whatever it will be, is going to be balancing the system, not making players happy.

You know I am only about 60 days old give or take a few days. But the reason I asked how once we are in the game and it is not Beta how it is going to effect us as characters in how much we put into things. I however do not mind loosing all of my cash and having to start over. That is what opening into the real game is about. Starting over. giving the game balance. Yes there will be those who will whine bitch piss moan about it but you will either get over it and gone with it or just leave the game all together. Which will not effect the game either way.
I have seen it happen on many other rp beta places. Yes they lost people but they also gained. You have to expect a loss. why? cause remember BETA! not yet actually open.
We are all there to test things and play it out.

So if there is a total reset of stats, chyen, owernship of things including apartments remember it is for the good of the game and the balance!
What chance would a total newbie against a 2 year old character that has maxxed out stats, chyen what have you? there is no balance and no chance.

I would like to thank the Wiz/Admins for helping adding to it. I was wondering to what extent it was going to be reset, know I know. Like it is not going to effect me in any way.

Game on!

Strafe is INDEED a woman.
Few questions about coded stuff from WAY BACK when…

1) Palm Doors, are they done? Do they work? Can we get them IC yet? (I've seen em at SK!!!!!!)

2) Palm-Lock Cabinets, (same as above but havent seen em yet :P)

3) Actual Computers... (Faintly remembers something said to him about em... kinda like a SHI note cept it has other shit on it. :P)

4) Wearable Weapons! (Again, heard something, never got anything on it...)

If anyone has any info on any of the above... could you please post about it? If these are completly new and have never been thought of and I'm just remembering things that never happened... please let me know so I can facepalm and then @request them!!!

*cackles madly*

Go sorry Lucifer! I didn't see your lips attached to my ass!

*cackles madly*

Well, reset or not, it won't matter. There'll always be hoarding, there'll always be someone with higher stats, You could easily be permed right now as it is, what's the difference?

Remember: You can't 'win' at Sindome….there's no 'end goal'. You chargen, you RP, and then you die. Eventually Gally will die...so what...like Nic said it's a game. And i hope you didn't waste all yer time on here to make a big huge character...i hope you kept logging on cuz i was such good company *grin*

Hrmm, briefly… yep, the reset is, in the eyes of some, going to be an ass-fucking (excuse my bluntness). It's all a matter of how you view the procedure. It's not being done in any way to disadvantage, downgrade or screw over anyone at all, it's being done to allow the game to find a new balance under what will hopefully at the time be a more stable game. As Johnny said, right now you have chyen, UE, equipment and lord knows what else that, in the full release game, would never have come to you as easy as it did this time. Yep, we do fully appreciate that some of you have been here 2 years or more and that's why we've vaguely mentioned the idea of a player by player system checked over by admin. I mean, figure for uno momento, would it not be easier for us to just say, FULL RESET, and perma all existing chars, pull ALL the chyen and equipment out of the game and make you all start with totally new chars? It's what plenty of other games do when the go live.

I think it was Luc who asked this... Nope, I don't think we ever intend to have another reset after the end of beta. If things go as planned we should never need to, the game should be fairly self moderating in that respect... The reset isn't just about lowering chars, it's about cleaning up. Getting rid of all the test junk in the game and putting out a tidy product...

I really don't get the problem with a percentage cut in chyen... Figure the logic, if we cut say (pulling this figure totally out of my ass) 50% off everyone. Bob has 10k, you have 100k. Bob ends with 5k, you end with 50k, all the ratio's stay the same. You're still 10 times richer than Bob. A percentage is the only way to ensure an even cut across the full playing field. If, instead, we cut say 8k of everyone, Bob is left with 2k while you have a whopping 42k, a mere 21 times more than Bob... so really, in all honesty, which is the fairer system?

Load, in realistic terms, yep, it's crap. But I guarentee you that without it in the place the game will suck. I 100% guarentee this. No questions asked. It's basic economics. If an unlimited supply of everything is available in the game then the market will quickly become flooded, then prices crash, no-one buys anything coz there's already more available than anyone ever needs and things stagnate -very- VERY quickly.
Load is -ESSENTIAL- to the game.

As I said before, we appreciate everyone's input and will be sad to see anyone leave as a result of a reset. It's not something we've given little thought to or suddenly decided on, infact, the details still aren't 100% settled on... -AND- it isn't likely to happening in the very near future anyhow. On top of anything else, in my honest opinion, what your character has acquired in 2 years of play is meaningless when compared to what -YOU- have contributed to the game in that same amount of time. That'll remain priceless, you beta testers shaped the game, you people will go down in history as the oldbies of Sindome, people will talk about you and the good old days -long- after many of you have moved on... That's gotta be worth more than your collection of virtual objects in a virtual world.

*looks around, slowly coming to my feet, appluading*

Great speach! :P

on a side note, THERE ARE PLANTS!!!

--

on a note regaurding what we are currently talking about: Nicadeamus is now a WHOPPING 374 days old! WHOOO!! I have put 829 hours of Gameplay into Sindome! WOW! The longest single session being 582 consecutive minutes without:
- 1) Getting killed.
- 2) Disconnecting
- 3) The MOO crashing!

Wow. amazing.

As to the load system, makes sence to me. though here is a sticky one, Say the playerbase is 100 players. Of that, only 10% have decks (10 decks) the max the load system allows. What happens if 5 players are permed NONE of them with decks, and 7 players leave, who also have no decks (they were reaped chars, people of signed on once, never returning.). 2 of the 5 permed players build new characters, the other 3 leave with the 7 others. Making a total of 10 players gone. THis means that the playerbase is now 90, none of the leaving players had the decks. Do the number of decks in the game drop to 9? Meaning one decker is SOL? Completely killing any Decker-like RP they can handle?

Or is the load system open to a certain amount of playerbase flux, like a 20% plus/minus?

ummm.

Hey Rastus first things first…the day I am considered an "oldbie", will be a cold day in hell.  Second I was just kinda wonderin in what time period are we talkin fore this reset goes down...

I am a lowly guttersnipe......

Speaking of the reset:

I say we have a gigantic reset party at Carnal or the Drome before everything goes down, kinda like New Years Eve save there'll be MOOcahol and MOOsex and whatnot.. no PKing or anything like when we tested the connection for the new physical location of the MOO.. just a countdown, some cheering then   *POP*

Did I just type MOOcahol?
Oh i think PKing would have to be a must, ahve a little tourney
Nicad was asking about load…

If, for whatever reason, the number of a given object that should be in the game fell below the number that were -actually- in the game nothing would change. All that happens when the load limit is reached is that the system is prevented from creating any new ones. So, the above load number would stay in place until one were destroyed or moved into the economy somehow, out of the players hands, then it would stay out of circulation until such time as load dictated more were needed.

It shouldn't ever be a problem in the example you mentioned with deckers, there will be a variety of decks and there'll always be more -total- decks than deckers, totalling all the different types. There would, however, be less of the top level decks than deckers making them desirable, keeping the price up etc.

On to a few things that have to do with load indirectly, so I putting it here…

Disguises, I know the masks exist out there, allowing you to rename and what not. But we need lower grade things, cloaks (like what Clint use to have), rubber masks, voice alterators, etc. Things that can disguise you to a point, I mean, disguise skill is nothing if only a few people can have masks, and then Johnny deletes em if someone else gets them.

I personally could do a lot of RP if I could 'RP' a second char that is Lucifer in disguise. Possibilities are endless.

Masks and disguises should be able to change the appearace of your gender as well. :P
Ok, time for me to bitch… (this IS the bitch boards...)

In my opinion, it is INCREDIBLY unfair for only a small number of people to have masks, and then if someone else gets one of those, it is deleted.

I know it would suck if EVERYONE had one, thats not what I'm saying. What I am saying however, that their should be some kind of @disguise command that allows you to rename urself and new descs. (1 or 2 only, it saves).

Now, lets say Nic is disguised as Bob. If Bob is in a room and I enter, the system rolls his disguise against my PCP, if I win, I'll see 'Nicadeamus fails to decieve you as Bob.' or something like that. If he wins, I see Bob and the game goes on. If you think about it, it is not too difficult to disguise yourself. Take this for example. If Devon started running around with full WJF armor he took from Casey, what is to stop him from saying hes Casey? Besides the fact it says Devon is here and his desc. There are so many factors here that would allow for even more RP. I mean, if one is running around as a killer in disguise, do you know how much fucking RP that would be? And if they used SIC, then WJF can track them and see that Bob is actually Nic.

All I am saying is, right now giving a small number of masks to people who may or may not be using them, yet they still take up load, is not really fair to those who have a great use for them that would add massive RP.

My bitch is over... for now...

1) Masks are 'super-tools' and they are for Admin consideration.

2) Johnny decides what a good reason is. EVERYONE AND THEIR DOG would like a mask. I don't know one player that would turn down a mask if offered.

3) Masks aren't as versitile as you think.

4) You probably WON'T get a mask by begging and pleading after being refused. just a hint. Admin don't implement things without thinking about how it affects things. We see the game as a whole, sometimes you as players only see aspects…trust us :) MUAHAHAHAHA!

Luc, from what I know, masks DO check against your stats to see if you notice who is actually wearing it. Or at least that's what I was told. *shrug*

Oh, and Luc, just cause YOU are NOT involved in the RP, doesn't mean it isn't happening.

ummm.

and there is NO way Nic would name himself 'bob' in disguise! NEVER! Mabey Jace (Poison Elves) or Mabdango! Or…HUNTER!

:P

yeas...all is coming to fruition...yeas....

And wha the hell is a Super-tool? (Other than me. Get it. A tool. as in a moron...oh never mind...)

The masks should be considered a temporary solution to a large problem. The problem is that player names and properties have to be maintained somewhere when you don a disguise because it would be too much code to intercept all incoming requests for information about a player and return the 'disguised' information. Think about how many objects, rooms and other players you interact with every time you move from room A to room B. The simple act of moving uses AT LEAST 10 properties on your character. The solution is to store the settings you want to change somewhere and be able to retrieve them automatically at some point. Not only that, but have the possibility to that player X can see the real you while player Y sees the disguise. It's a very hairy situation and will be addressed when it gets it's turn in front of me.
Good good… temporary is good... thanks for clerifying.
