Staff Spotlight Q&A - Ep.4 Archon
It's a Q&A! With Archon!

How did you first discover Sindome, and what drew you to the cyberpunk genre?

I think I discovered it just by searching for Cyberpunk MUDs, as I was already into the genre at the time from the Cyberpunk 2077 game.

What made you want to become a Support Game Master?

The reminder for it popped up one day, and I thought ‘huh, my timezone doesn’t have much coverage, I’ll give it a try’.

Can you describe what a typical "day in the life" looks like for an SGM?

It’s mostly logging on, finding an appropriate insult for Mench, and then going through the tickets for the day to pick out the ones that I’m equipped to handle.

What would you say to anyone considering becoming a Support Game Master?

The main thing I’d say is to consider whether or not you have the time to commit to it. There’s a whole bunch of stuff to learn, but it feels pretty rewarding once you get started.

When puppeting NPCs for small interactions, do you have a favorite type of character to animate?

Coletti. I love being an asshole.

What's the difference between running a small plot versus the larger plots that full GMs handle?

Smaller plots are generally a lot easier to handle and only require one or two interactions, without having to start writing a full dossier to keep track of things like a full GM would.

Which sector of Withmore City do you find most interesting to work with, and why?

Gold, usually. You tend to get both sides of the Mix and Corporate divide.

Are there any particular gangs, corporations, or factions you especially enjoy writing for?

I haven’t really decided on a favourite just yet, as I haven’t dug too far into things like corporations yet.

When reviewing character histories, what makes a background stand out as particularly well-crafted?

Clear motivations for a character make not only for a good springboard to further RP, but also serve as a pretty good hook for staff to figure out what kind of plots might be worth running for your character.

When creating small plots, what inspires your ideas?

I usually try to get a scope of what characters are currently attempting to achieve and try to base my small plots around that- whether it’s a situation for them to handle in a new job, or NPCs doing things in reaction to their own actions.

Do you have a favorite type of scene or interaction to facilitate between players and NPCs?

I tend to prefer interactions that are based around an NPC reacting to a players actions, whether bad or good- it lets a player know that their actions matter in the game world and that they can benefit or suffer consequences from them.

What advice would you give to new players when writing their character histories?

Try to get a clear idea of what you want your character to be before you write their history- it’s a lot easier to write their backstory when you have a clear idea of what you want to achieve with the character.

From a staff perspective, what player behaviors make for the most engaging roleplay?

Players that are willing to take a risk to achieve something tend to make for more engaging roleplay- it’s a lot easier to become invested in a scenario when there’s something riding on it.

What's something about Sindome that you appreciate more now as staff than you did as a player?

The staff themselves, honestly. It’s a lot clearer how much the staff actually end up with on their plates and have to deal with. I used to sometimes feel a bit annoyed if a puppet seemed to take a long time as a player- seeing behind the scenes, I can definitely understand why now.

If you had to live in one sector of Withmore, which would you choose?

Probably Green sector. Comfy corporate living, without as much as the cutthroat behaviour of Blue residents.

Which Sindome slang term is your favorite to use?

Not really Sindome unique, but baka. Just for the sake of how many ways it can be twisted and altered.
