My opinion of the TV in game has fluctuated since I started playing back whenever it was I first infected this wonderful game with my own peculiar brand of whatever it is I do here.

Initially I liked it. Then I hated it, now I like it again, but I think it could be better.

You used to be able to ignore it, which sometimes I wish we still could. I understand though, that the point is that TV is everywhere, we can't escape it. Would be nice to be able to turn the one in your apartment or cube off though..and how about having it possible to change channels, so you can choose to watch something specific? If you wanted stuff to be shown on the TV, I'm sure there are plenty of people would be happy to provide material to be shown, DaveK was writing a whole story for these boards, why not have the TV showing something like that on one channel, on paragraph at a time every couple of minutes or whatever?

I'm probably missing several very good reasons why that wouldn't work, couldn't work, shouldn't work, but, the TV is cool! It could be so much cooler though..so long as we don't wind up with endless channels of home improvement and cooking shows..

The TV system presently has and supports channels, there just aren't enough players interested in being TV personalities as well as the support needed to run shows. We continue to try though.

I like the invincibility of the TV… and its ever present wakefulness.  It adds that extra "Big Brother" feel to Withmore - ever read the book 1984?  It's reminiscent of that... I like that touch in the game.

Yeah, I like it too, but I know I for one would have taken a sledgehammer  to the one in my apartment long ago if it was the only way to turn it off.

Appartments and cubes -should- be havens from TV if you want them to be, or, at least I think so.

Apartments, sure, but cubes, maybe not - maybe cubes are so cheap (cheaper than a McChikken sandwich) because NLM subsidizes hotel owners who put TV's from hell in the cubes… think about it, subsidies make the hotel owner richer, allow him to lower his prices making him more competitive, meanwhile NLM reaches scores more people who will rent the cheaper cubes and be forced to watch the ads. It's a captive market...just like the entire population of Withmore, in fact

Or maybe hotel owners just hate everyone and want to torture them.

Though, regardless of if it has a power button, I'd still take a sledgehammer to it if I wanted quiet..or a shotgun, or whatever else would shut the infernal thing up while I tried to sleep or whatever..

Obviously you could bust it…unless they put 30 or so centimetres thick of plexi in front of the screen (pretty likely on Red level...Boioioioingg). Or put in a nasty, nasty fine for vandalism.

Since reading this post, or rather Johnny's reply to it, I've been wondering what kind of TV shows would there likely be in Sindome?

Obviously there is Gerik's Jerry Springer-esque show, but what else fits into your (well really Johnny's) idea of the game?
