Ya know what?!

The reason you people don't have any chyen is because you care too much about hoping everybody loves you and not enough about the theme of game. There are several IC ways to make chyen in the game. One would be the FT terminal. Why Lucifer had a 200k bounty and nobody went after it is beyond me. 4 people could do it easy with help form ONE of the bigger characters in the game.

A 10k bounty, hell a 5k bounty isn't some petty ass ammount of chyen that you people, the people of RED would scoff at. People would sell their mother for 500c so they could eat for a week. You eat rats, you live in shit that flows OPENLY through the streets of red. And when something doesn't go the way you want it to, you run to one of your many friends and get him/her to kill you so you can update first and save your gear and your stats. That's bullshit IMHO. Because god forbid if character so in so, doesn't like me. That might actually cause CONFLICT! And god forbid there be ANY kind of conflict going on in a story. That'd just be too much for you handle. God forbid something FUN happens and you have to run for your life, or make a stand.

I like sally rottencrotch, she's cool, we talk on (insert your favorite method of cheating here) all the time, and even though, I'm a poor ass bitch, it'd be wrong if I pickpocketed everything she had and sold it at the market. God forbid characters die, god forbid ANYTHING bad happens because then Joey Jingledick might not talk to me on (insert your favorite method of cheating here).

Friend do not kill friends. If they do and I just don't know about it, please inform me, If I have a hit on my head, my friend isn't going to come up and shoot me so he can collect the money and hold a decent funeral for me. I'd run, or buy a whole hell of a lot of guns, THEN run. Or I'd take out the motherfucker that wants me dead. Or I'd just hide in my room playing SD.

Why isn't there a demand for a black market? Because players aren't losing. Why aren't players losing? Because, YOU'RE ALL FRIENDLY IN THE GAME! I'm not saying that you can't be friends, not in the least. Since I started playing over two years ago, I have made some INCREDIBLE friends. But you don't all have to be friendly in the game.

On to some a bit different: Clones.
Clones in my head are reserved for the 31337, or the people have have EXTRA chyen to spend on luxeries like living for ever. I would think that 10k for a clone 5k for an update is EXTREMELY reasonable. But then nobody would have a clone, and you'd all perm and get tired of making characters over and over and over again and quit. So here's my solution to that: DCD is child's play, Why not, nix your stats? or atleast nix a percentage of what was put into them. But I guess that raises the whole conflict issue again, and we wouldn't want that now would we.
</rant>

I think there's plent of conflict that goes on in the game, Finn. You should be well aware of it, too. Not everyone is a fluffy bunny, and some of those who are, make the game what it is. As long as a person is roleplaying consistently with their character, and not basing their IC actions on their personal RL feelings, the game is being played effectively.

What's sad is when people won't do certain things because of those OOC connections. But that's not everyone, and it is after all, a game. We're all here to have fun and it seems that most people are accomplishing that. Everyone should make an effort to roleplay true to the character they have made. If that person is a hardcore ass raping bitch, so be it. Or, if they made a sweet naive character and play him/her consistently, then leave them in peace to do so.

Withmore City takes in those who are good, chews them up, and spits them back out. I know my character came to The Dome with grand morals, high ideals, and the belief that every human is inherently good. But why not ask her what she thinks of that now? For me, the enjoyment of roleplay comes from changing her, watching Withmore "take her virginity" so to speak.

There are many conflicts going on all around us. Some of them are emotional, some moral, some are a matter of survival, and others are plain physical pain and effort. That's what life is, and Withmore's a reflection of humanity. Whether it's in 2087, 2002, or 56789, it's being played by humans and therefore conflict is an essential, pivotal piece of it.

There are many kinds of friends too, you'll find. There are those who would be willing to shoot their friend if they believed it was for the better good. You may argue that they're not the best friends, or you may argue that they're the truest friends of all. But… the fact is it takes ALL sorts of people to make a world, and SD would suck if no one was a "fluffy bunny." Every world has its pacifists, its war-mongers, its torn lovers, (straight, bi, gay and lesbian) its friends, its foes, its assholes, and its dipsticks. SD is no different.

As for the prices of clones, I agree they're too low. Upping the price of clones would up the value of human life. You don't want people killing their friends to save them from bounty hunters on the FT terminal? Then let's make it so most people don't have clones to fall back on. Or make more permanent damage, loss of stats or something... that would increase the desire to survive and therefore decrease the "marshmallowdom."

This has been the longest reply I've posted! Whew, I'm done now.

So back to basic's.

Hands up how many of you SD players out there played, worship or did strange things to 'Cyberpunk 2020'.

I should think there's a few of you, Now tell me. 2020 did it have clones to the degree where you could walk in off the street sit in some pod made from disused toilet tubes, feed it some chyen and pop 30 seconds later you've been cloned.

You know I didn't think it did either. But we still played the game for hours and hours… Yes, I remember the 72 hours straight sessions without sleep and enough caffeine based drinks to fill an ocean.

Right now if you've made it back from that trip down memory lane, dodging the dice that seemed to freely bounce off the table, wall and sometimes peoples foreheads. I'll try and get to the point.

- Insert about an hour here -

I actual did decided to go on about how clones should either not exists or at least cost more than your average Red scum could afford. (I admit, I'm Red Scum, I shouldn't be able to afford a clone.)

I was also going to rant on about how everything is happy and nice and people talk when there should be violence.

Instead I leave you with this;

Corporates fight with words and pens,
Punks fight with guns and knives.
Mr and Mrs Average are victims waiting to happen.
It's the Cyberpunk way, So start living it.

I think people are thinking the wrong things are…*uses the dirty word* fluffy bunny.

Its not fluffy bunny to make friends IC or help your friends out, even if that means you help them avoid a hit on them.
Its not fluffy bunny to play your character as being more interested in socialising than knifing or shooting people, if that is what they are like as a character - if you are being true to their character.
Its not fluffy bunny to not kill your OOC friend's characters if your character has no reason to do it IC. In fact I'd say its damn twinkish to kill them without an IC reason to do so.

Everyone complained that the game was too nice. Too fluffy bunny. And now how many people have lost clones in the last few weeks and they're still complaining.

As for the cost of clones...you know, not to poke fingers, but its pretty easy for people with corporate jobs to talk about how the costs of clones should be higher when they're raking in a regular income with very little rp time and effort put into it. Try coming up with ten grand or five grand when doing runs for Bruce as a newb with little charisma. Or hell, even as my character who despite the popularity of her clothing makes fuck all in wages. I know people who make more doing Bruce runs - which are not available for people with coded jobs to do.

Life is taken for granted. That's part of the theme. People know they can have a clone and short change death. You're thinking to much like someone living in the Judeo-Christian structured societies of today.  Murder, assault, petty crimes happen on a mass scale in the theme. They're supposed to. That's the whole point. Otherwise we'd all be sitting in Starfucks drinking our frappacinos and eatting chocolate tipped biscotti while making fun of crack whores we saw on Jerry Springer the day before.

Sindome is supposed to be a world largely alien to that we live in now. How many of us live in a city with over sixty-five million people in it? None. How many of us carry knives, brass knuckles, and guns every day while walking around wearing armour? None.

And yes, Red is a cesspool. Yes there is open flowing sewage on the streets and you know there are nice messages put there in each room on red by the moo to describe it and the things you see. And after about two weeks of playing you just walk straight past them and don't even look unless there is graffiti you might not have seen before. Why? Because you're aclimitised to it like you damn well should be.

A very wise man, who's name I forget but it will come back to me, wrote in a book called Lives of Cell that humans are odd creatures. Give us death on a small scale and its tragic. We don't know how to handle it. We take it personally. But death in large numbers...hundreds, thousands, millions...its removed from us. We're numb to it. We tut at the television or the newspaper and say, "Oh how awful," or something equally suitable and then forget about it or talk about it in that illusive way we discuss all statistics.  And the point to this is that we should be ignoring the stuff IC because if we didn't we wouldn't be able to handle it. We'd go nuts, which yes works for some chars, but not all.

Imagine being born on RED and living your entire life there. Working in a sweatshop making trinkets for housewives up on BLUE, watching your friends die or kill themselves, fighting to find food and shelter. You somehow manage to scrape together the five grand to buy yourself a clone in the hopes that life will someday be worth living and every so often you get enough to go update so that if you die you won't forget important things like where you live, where your stash is, who your dealer is, and on yeah your kids. And you say life isn't considered precious because a clone doesn't cost 10k?  I say bull. Its not considered precious because people aren't developing that side of their characters. Or perhaps you aren't or maybe you just don't know people well enough to learn how they think about life.

Yeah...I'm done....for now.

Well said, Tash.  I agree with that, except I still think that it would be more realistic for clones to cost more.  Even when I run out of cash and can't afford one anymore, I think it'd still benefit the game if they were more of a difficult thing to gain.

One thing I forgot in my original post:  as for friends killing friends, that's true that this would never happen in today's world, at least not among true friends.  But, we don't live in a world where our friends can update right before we kill them and wake up relatively safe, sane and healthy moments later where we can wait by their side for them to wake up and gently explain what happened.

Allow me to stress again that the main thing is consistency. Play that character as if they are who you set them to be, and it'll be fine!

My point wasn't whether or not we can update the night before, my point, cloning is a dangerous, PAINFUL process, but the players don't see it that way. They see it as a way to save the game and avoid Char-gen. And people don't have to remember who their dealer is why? because they don't have dealers, but that's a different rant for a different day. All I'm saying is it's hard to have good plottage when nobody wants to dick over somebody else.

We, as in the admin a few players, complain that the game is too nice. We make it dirtier, scummier more theme oriented and people complain about getting hit with dildos for no IC reason. Or the fact that they got killed or they don't have enough money, or that bruce is mean.

By the way, I've done the math and there is enough chyen to be made with bruce, you can easily make 10k a week, or damn near close to it, with bruce alone, plus there's SHI, yeah it's crappy pay, but grab a friend, go to SHI, work for an hour or two talk to your friend 200 extra chyen that you didn't have before. Don't want to put in the time to do it, then don't but don't complain.

And on another note, I have my carry permit and carry my .45 around where ever I go. Unless I'm out drinking then It stays at home…Guns and beer don't mix no matter what the people from west virginia say.

Life isn't concidered valuble because the tools are to easy to come by.

Personally, I see nothing wrong with the clones, but that'd DAMN HURT, doncha think?

What is it people from West Virginia say about Guns and Beer ?

Me, I'm a CP2020 junkie (or was)

But there are some small, but very important differences between your average CP2020 campaign and SD.

First of all, in SD, newbies are cannon fodder in a fight. The power thet higher stats confer to someone who's been around longer than another is astounding.

In CP2020, if you have basic handgun skills, (say, 2 or 3), you creep up behind Jim the Solo who's getting it on with his input, and plug him behind the head, he's dead.

In your average MMORPG, SD included, if you have basic handgun skills (say, average to accomplished), and get in the Drome and try to shoot Bob The Guy with High Skills N' Stats,

DA-DUM, combat mode! You blow a ragged hole in Bob's groin, Bob flinches, turns around, plugs you six times, and you're off to Genetek.

The stat and skill range in MMORPGs in general needs to be smaller, stat/skill advancement opportunities need to be less plentiful, damage needs to be higher, and the difference between newbie and oldbie has to be blurred. Advantages due to stats and skills shouldn't be so big, advantages due to equipment should count for more. A character's age shouldn't make him or her raise the ass-kicking per capita rate, but character advancement should be more in the form of money, gear, fame, reputation and social status.

Then, people wouldn't mind losing their characters. More people would perma, and wouldn't care much. People would die more, and clones could be reserved for the extremely rich. Hell, you could even raise clones to 100k.

But then, gamers in general tend to be sissies and would rather play AD&D, where their lvl65 Whotzit-Fighter-Mage-Thief-Underwater Basket Weaver has 88 HP and can't be damaged by non-magical arbalests.

Should we lower the UE output?

Should clones cost more?

And hasn't someone already taken Ty's viriginity?

If the habitat's a rockin', don't come a knockin'!

No one stops being a CP2020 junkie.

Thankfully AD&D is something that people grow out off.

I think that striking the happy middle ground and producing a moo or rp that everyone finds too thier liking is impossible. Sure it could be harder, it could be easier but whatever happens it will always generate a difference of opion that is clearly aprant in the above forum posts.

This isn't a bad thing.

But I'd still like to know about people from West Virginia and what they say about Guns and Beer ?

"And hasn't someone already taken Ty's viriginity?"
*John raises his hand* Oh! Me, me!
But on a serious note, Ue and clone costs are fine.
Aw, SHIT! Johnny, I knew you were watching that time! Bad boy. How many times do I have to tell you to stop spying on me? Haha j/k =P
I just thought I'd jump on the bandwagon and add some comments for everyone to enjoy, or not. So anyway, I -was- disappointed in the..fluffy bunny-ness of the MOO for awhile there. I was tired of playing Chas', it was getting boring, and I didn't have any reason to have her kill herself, so I decided what the heck, I'll let her sleep in the streets and -surely- someone will kill her. But no. I usually woke up in a cube or some nook or cranny that no-one would normally pass by. I was absolutely disgusted, honestly, and it was a long time before anyone even -robbed- her. But things got more interesting and I've noticed a change in the players, a little, anyway. Most of Chas's regular audience at the Orifice have been killed off. People have gone wacko and insane and just plain bitchy since I first joined the game. And honestly, I don't think I've played a more addicting game in my life. *applause*

So…um...I guess there is no real point in this post but just me ranting about nobody killing Chas when I wanted them to. And also, I like the clone price, though it would be more interesting if you didn't have to kill your common street scum twice just to get rid of 'um. I can understand street scum entrepaneurs (if you want to call them that) having clones, but your average SHI factory worker who's gotten on the wrong side of someone? Nah. And UE? As the system goes now, I think it works. But to make stats have little affect on the difference between newbie and oldbie, I don't think lowering how much UE you get will really solve the problem. It'll just make people stingier.

the dome is essentially a horrendous place that screws people over and twists them inside out a few dozen times till either they snap, find a way to survive in that twisted state or die. doesnt matter what level they live/work on. not all chars are- killersfor one i dont think theres enough of a player base to have every char be a homicidal goat sacrificing ninja plus theres enough betrayal, alliances and backstabbing in the game from what i can see to create plenty of conflict true, it depends on ones definition of conflict if you create a char whos only ideals are to go around dragging people into the sewers every day, maybe conflict over loyalty isnt a big deal, but if you create a char who tries to be loyal and tries to keep to some sort of ideals while living in the mix, then that kind of conflict is a large part of who they are it can't really be measured by a body count if they arn't a killer.

i guess in a sense, the change that some chars go through can be a good part of role-playing them i mean think about it, every event that happens to you affects you somehow, so why would it be different with a char youve created? especially in a place such as withmore, it doesnt matter if your char is an unemotional killing machine, a naive trusting doe eyed deer, a street rat hell bent on survival, or someones kid, you have to think about how the chars mind will react to certain things that happen to them as well as how these things will CHANGE your char down the road. i mean, you must be a super human if you came to a place like the dome and didnt get twisted up somehow. the city gnaws at people. any place like that would change its citizens.

the updating is a good example, i try to treat it like at least something unpleasent!, i mean.. from the description, i would be scremaing in pain probably if i had to go through that, but hey, ;) Bias has a higher tolerance for pain then i do. little things like that, the sewers are a good example too… but that's probably another post....

in a future where death is a common sight, most humans could get used to the mindless deaths of the masses, strangers, etc, but many would still let themselves get close to other people and be effected by their deaths/betrayal/lies/etc

and hey if it wasnt for the naive trusting individuals, some chars wouldnt have people to screw over no? :-P

hrm i ramble pointlessly now, Tyllisa said a lot of what i was thinking. heh

You all think too much.

Stop fucking analysing everything and play the game.
I'd love to see some of you doing something rash. Taking a risk. Really.

I mean jesus, is your precious leather wallet, progia-9 and stiletto -really- that important to you, that rather than risk doing anything, you sit in a cube and talk shit over the SIC?

Mug someone.

Next time someone says something you don't like, don't stand around trying to come up with wittier insults about thier maturity, or intelligence, hit them!

You don't need to kill someone, give them a hiding and send them packing, earn a reputation!

All this pissing and moaning about stats, and gear, and clones, really has nothing to do with it. The problem is a lack of players prepared to stop wrapping thier characters in cotton wool and fucking do something.

The characters involved in the recent outbreak of violence on RED have my respect. The ones who were killed as well as the ones who did the killing. Those people who lost characters, I sincerely hope you weren't discouraged from playing by any of it, in fact I'd hope it gave you a fresh appetite for the game. Those of you who took to complaining ooc, and, you know who you are, frankly you suck.

Recently, RED has become what -I- think it should have been all along. A dangerous, lawless hellhole, where a trip to Jimmy's for a pack of smokes could cost you your life savings, if not your life. THAT'S THEMELY! So embrace it.

A while back there was a lot of talk about the newer characters not being able to compete with the older, established characters. Damn straight, and why should you? I think if this game became all about "Kill people for gear. die. Kill for gear. die." I'd stop playing. Don't aim so high. Don't -try- and compete at the top levels your first day out of chargen, work your way up, kill steal and cheat (icly, ooc cheaters should be beaten savagely with the dildo of truth and justice.) your way up the pecking order. Take -risks- to get ahead, be smart, get some ic enemies, it's -fun-.

This is -OUR- game. -WE- make it what it is. If it sucks, it's as much my fault, or your fault as it is the fault of code, or the admins. If the game stops being fun for you, try a new angle, if it still isn't fun, stop playing it. No one's forcing you to.

</rant>

Yeah, it's not even funny how close John has come to dying/getting permed. But I took a -bunch- of risks and turned stuff around. Usually everyone starts out as a bitch. You do the leg work, you do it well, and stuff turns around for you. Don't worry if you can't beat Joe the crackead if he pisses you off; talk to an oldbie about beating Joe the crackhead for you. Newbies can get assloads of money from Bruce. Hell, if I could run for him, I'd do it now. When my char had a stable job with a paycheck, newbies constantly made more money than him. Food for thought.
Edit: To summarize this: Start fucking each other over. It'll be fun.

(Edited by Shadow at 6:43 pm on Aug. 1, 2002)

I would just like to say that Chas died for the first time since I created her, and it was damn fun. Sure I'm out a clone, and money, and for awhile even the clothes I had spent so much time on (which really pissed me off for awhile, but I got over it.), but it was damn fun. It gives you a lot of stuff to rp, and stuff like that. I mean come on, what can be funner than trying to roleplay a char who's lost a couple days of their life? Ok, a lot of things, but still, good stuff. And the dying messages are pretty swanky. Good job admin *applause*. And yes, I'm trying to post more because my numbers are pitifully low for being at this a year. Pitifully. Feel free to ignore what I post. I'm just blabbering. Umm, also, I will admit I don't have Chas take a lot of risks. That's fine with me. She wasn't really created to be a big action chick. She was made to be pretty. However, I do have big plans for my next char, should Chas' be permed. Not that I'm asking anyone to perm her. Shush. Anyway…I don't really have anything else to say, except that I'm hopelessly addicted to Sindome. Sad, really. I skip work when there's good RP. But then, I can do that with my job...I'll be quiet now.
*sighs* I just deleted post I tried to right *cries*

Clones prices are fine now.  Tech gets better and cheaper so 10 and 5 is a bit high.

Fuck people over yes.  Pick pockets it's not that hard.

Fuck friends.  That's the jist of it oh and tash
