My in-game playlist.....

Alright guys and gals, this here is just a few of the songs on my current in-game playlist for SD. I figured I'd share my thoughts on a few of the songs and explain how they influence my RP in the Dome. I've got two for you so far, if I get  good responses on this post I may go ahead and do this daily or something, maybe like music review for CP theme tunes…heh....Sindome Rolling Stone anyone??  Anyways, lets get on with it.......

The first song today is by Linkin Park, from either their Hybrid Theory album, or (my favorite) the Reanimation album. The song is called Place For My Head. Take a look at  the chorus for example.....

I'm sick of the tension, sick of the hunger,
Sick of you acting like I owe you one.
Find another place to feed your greed,
While I find a place to rest.

I want to be in another place,
I hate when you say you don't understand.
I want to be in the energy, not with the enemy,
A place for my head.......

This, to me, just exhibits the basic attitude I think anyone would have if they found themselves in a place like the Dome. Like he says, he simply wants to find a place to rest, a place for him to lay his head and just be left alone. He's tired of being oppressed by his enemies (the authorities, corps, other citizens, gangers..?? they all try to hold each other down in order to get to where they want to be). Basically, he's expressing the frustration and shit that Dome dwellers must experience every day.

The second choice today is another Linkin Park tune, from the same albums, (preferably Reanimation). The title is By Myself. Here's the two verses from the song....

What do I do to ignore them behind me?
Do I follow my instincts blindly?
Do I hide my pride from these bad dreams,
And give in to sad thoughts that are maddening?
Do I sit here and try to stand it?
Or do I try to catch them red-handed?
Do I trust some and get fooled by phoniness?
Or do I trust nobody and live in loneliness?
I make the right moves but I'm lost within,
I put on my daily facade, but then,
I just end up getting hurt again....
...By myself....

If I turn my back I'm defenseless,
And to go blindly seems senseless.
If I hide my pride and let it all go on,
Then they'll take from me 'til everything is gone.
If I let them go I'll be outdone,
But if I try to catch them I'll be outrun.
If I'm killed by the questions like a cancer,
Then I'll be buried in the silence of the answer.....
....By myself......

This one is like my characters theme song. This is almost exactly how he sees life in the Dome. To him, it's just a big, heavily consequenced choice that he's got to make, and either way he decides to go about it, he's screwed. But , he knows one thing for sure. One constant factor that stays throughout his ordeals........He is alone, absolutely........Wether he's in a crowd of so-called "friends" at the Drome, or sleeping in a public coffin, he knows that he's by himself. Any decisions he makes have to be for him, and he can't rely on anyone but himself. On the same token though, he knows that he can't do what he's got to do by himself, he needs help, and that is the irony of CP. This song gives my character a voice, he can now be heard by others, and by myself. His frustration and anxiety can be felt in his words and that makes him more than just an idea in my head. It gives him a sort of flesh...well, maybe only synth-flesh ...but flesh none the less.......

In conclusion, I'd have to recommend that anyone who reads this, if you haven't heard these songs, take some time out to give em an ear, they're only 4:21, and 3:42 respectively. Plus, It's much more fun to step in-character when you know how s/he feels about things, and by giving your character a voice through music, whatever music it may be, You'll more likely than not find it much more enjoyable to play. Thanks for your time in reading this, and I hope to hear some responses, maybe some other music choices from the masses..??? I'll post a couple more songs tomorrow on here, and I'll be looking forward to seeing some responses.

Linkin Park eh? That's cute little Nu. Not my thing at all (I have hair).

I tend to have my playlists divided into three types of tunes - character pieces, mood pieces, and action pieces.

For instance, if my character is going to get into combat, I pull out the action pieces, almost exclusively Judas Priest (all albums right up to Painkiller - no Rob, no Judas, that's how I see it).
For instance, in almost every instance of combat, I go with 'All Guns Blazing', from Painkiller (1991, I think) - it's heavy bordering on speed, and you just need that double-bass drum pounding, aling with Halford's screech
and the sheer action/combat imagery just gives you that edge when you're facing 4-1 odds - enough of an edge for some of us to come out alive.

'Twisting the strangle grip, won't gove no mercy
feeling those tendons rip torn up and mean
Blastmaster racks the ground bent on survival
Full throttle hammers down, a deadly scream

All guns, All guns blazing (2x)

Forced into overdrive drawn out of anger
All talons poison dipped, impaling spike
Heart-pounding fever pitch blood pumping fury
Two fisted dynamo eager to strike

All guns, All guns blazing (2x)

Cross cutting thundercharge, blade of destruction
Flame throwing hurricane destroys the cage
bone crushing alien, god of salvation
sad wings that heaven sent, wipes out in rage

All guns, All guns blazing (ad nauseam)

Of course, other tracks from the album will fit in nicely too, the title track, Painkiller, comes to mind. But only if you're a real badass. Those are the action tunes.

Then I have my mood pieces, these range from instrumental ambient stuff (Akira soundtrack, Ecophony Rinne, Bladerunner soundtrack), to proper industrial metal (I'm talking Ministry here), to some more heavy (particularly pre-1979 Black Sabbath). For instance, when you're sitting around in a holding cell, can you possibly think of a better tune for the mood than Iron maiden's 'Hallowed Be Thy Name'? The theme may be a tad off, but the lyrics and general mood of the piece are perfect -

'I'm waiting in my cold cell
As the bells begin to chime
Reflecting on my past life
And it doesn't have much time
'Cause at five o'clock
They take me to the gallows pole
The sands of time for me are running low…

And so forth.
Other mood pieces on my playlist include some Venom (for those heavy moments), Anthrax, Motorhead, and even some Gary Numan. Oh, and of course, a shitload of Twisted Sister (Stay Hungry is a particularly appropriate album). And, when I'm feeling 'modern', I have a bit of Kreator on here. But just a bit.

Then you have your character pieces - these are what you play to help you get into your character. A character theme or somesuch...In my character's case, it's a lot of Pogues, a lot of Shane MacGowan and the Popes, and even more Blood Or Whiskey. And of course, one nice little Anthrax tune by the name of "I Am The Law". ;)

Nice, very nice selection. I listen to a lot of shit these days, I'm really into the hardcore scene out of NY, metal based stuff. Lots of underground bands like Between the Buried and Me, Evergreen Terrace, Atreyu, Darkest Hour, E-Town Concrete….....that would prolly be my battle music, although I'm not much of a battler, I could prolly kick some ass to those tunes...hehe....   I'll let you in on some of those with my next edition of the Sindome Rolling Stone....hehehe....but yeah, you've got a very nice selection I must say.....
Billy Idol is the embodiment of cyberpunk, everything else is just WHJ elevator musak. Yep.

The only hard fast rule I've found for truely CP music is personal taste. Before this fangled interweb thing broadened my horizons I had my own distinct idea of what music belonged with Cyberpunk, then I got all mingly with other "cyberpunks" and found that they too all had their own specific idea of what music belonged to Cyberpunk, and none of them agreed with me… Rap, dance, rock, punk, metal, nu-metal, blah, blah, blah, blah, I've heard them all cited as the "theme for CP".

While GMing I usually went with a gritty mix of punk (proper punk, not todays pop-punk), alternative and industrial. I've been known to listen to mind numbing euro-ditty dance fluff via a few selected streams too, usually in the passive admin state. Blame Johnny for that. Damned soul sucking cack...

As for character themes...

Kro would have been found listening to Lynyrd Skynyrd (Sweet Home Alabama), Dandy Warhols (Bohemian like you) and other laid back medleys.

Curio (elseMOO), died to Frank Sinatra singing My way.

Obscure reference of the day goes to Billy Idol's 1993 album, Cyberpunk. While it failed to make any impact on the music scene at all, it really should be in the collection of any true punker. Includes a tribute track to William Gibsons Neuromancer, aptly named... Neuromancer, and other inspirations from his work. Also includes a short intro track of spoken word based on excerpts from "A Cyberpunk Manifesto", although I can't find my CD to confirm who that's credited to. Nevertheless, part of it is currently quoted in Max's sig, credited to Bruce Sterling's preface in Mirrorshades: A Cyberpunk Anthology. Whether Sterling wrote the manifesto or quoted it in Mirrorshades, I'm unsure, but Mirrorshades isn't the original source.

There's a track list here.

You'll also find there's a video to go with the album.

I haven't checked, but I'm told the album is pretty hard to come by… but hey, who -buys- music these days anyway?

Well everyone has there own Sd soundtracks, but I myself have a wide variety of tunes.  I try to fit i song after song, but at the same time keep them in harmony with what my character is doing and/or even feeling at that moment.  The music genres differ extensively, but all in all they seem to compliment my characters feeling actions and situations.

Here's a small list I quickly composed:

Jack Johnson-Good for bar music, and thinking music
Steve Vei & Yngwie Malmsteen- Alittle classical guitar and heavy classical riffs
Also alittle Sublime, Ry Cooder, Pantera, and even alittle Modest Mouse.

I dunno about anyone else, but if you haven't heard much of any of theses artists, which I'm sure some of you have, then check them out.  I'd be more than happy to refer specific songs if anyone is interested

Malmsteen would be fantastic if he sticked to instrumentals like Stratovarius did. Yngwie has a definite problem picking decent singers, or even writing proper songs, which is why I prefer Stratovarius, and also Joe Satriani.
Joe is my hero.

-Kevlar

Well yeah Malmsteen definetly could do alittle more research on some of his prospects, but I really enjoy his instrumentals.  Something about them just gives me goose bumps.  He's still no match for Steve Vei though, I prefer alittle more Vei than Malmsteen.  But still I do like alittle Joe too.
Did he say Modest Mouse…????  Those guys kick ass......whats that one song called..?? Cowboy Dan or sumthing.....?? Tht song is great..haha Modest Mouse.. didn't know anyone else knew about them....thats good
Ok, I'm back again for my second installment of the Sindome Rolling Stone….I've got two more songs for you guys here...these ones are a little bit more on the hard side....before I get started though, I'd like to thank all of those who shared their opinions on my first post and let us know what they listen to....And with that, I bring you Issue two.......

First song this time through is by a band named Between the Buried and Me.....the name of the song is Shevanel Cut A Flip......no clue what the hell that means....only know this song kicks ass....here's a selection of lyrics from the tune..

Dream of me..we can live how we want now..
This world has no boundaries..we shall never wake up..

This is all I've ever dreamed.....
This dream is all I've ever wanted..cared for...
I only hope things haven't changed when I awake

If the world that we are forced to accept is false..
And nothing is true...
Then everything is possible...make this dream reality..

This one is one of my character pieces....It just embodies his hopes for the future...He has some high aspirations, and sometimes is laughed at for his beliefs..but even through this mockery he holds to his ideals and hopes for his dreams to become reality....

The second tune in this issue is by a band called Fear Factory..I'm sure some of you have heard of them....Burton Bell is an amazing vocalist and the brutal guitar riffs just get your blood flowing on this tune called Edgecrusher.....here's the lyrics....

Concieved in a hell beyond your depth of perception
Chaotic case of conquering domination
Psychopath snaps fired chains of imprisonment
A bludgeoning force thats undermining the government

Inflict strain upon the structure
Collapsing below my pressure  (x2)
Break of the edgecrusher.....(repeats 6 times)

The purist, non-conformist, jaded sub-human terrorist
From flesh to steel and blood to blade I fight to exist
A rival of justice, extreme rush of hatred
Survival in a twisted world where nothing is sacred

This tune would defenitely be an action piece, a real rebellious attitude behind the lyrics..fueled by the hard hitting guitar riffs this song defenitely gets me going.... Not to mention the nice little line in it about "from flesh to steel and blood to blade I fight to exist" I love that line.. Also just a little note about the album this song is from... Obsolete...... It was written as a story, from track one to track eleven or so ( I think?? correct me if I'm wrong on that one..) The story actually to me, seems very cyberpunk oriented....futuristic....dealing with how man has been made obsolete by the evolution of computers and machines....just a nice touch I think.... my suggestion is to defenitely check out this album if you haven't heard it.....and try to download some BTBAM while you're at it....  And thats it for the second installment..... keep posting your ideas and please feel free to criticize the hell out of my choices....I like to see diversity in a community like this.. see you next time in the Sindome Rolling Stone..

hey, one thing i believe that can -never- be criticized is someone elses personal music choices. (the occasional eye rolling and snide remark is permitted of course… as long as a drawn out discussion is expected afterwards. heh.)
especially when its musical choices in relation to a frame of mind music is something so- personal that debating good vs. bad or right vs. wrong is .. well.. silly.
(not getting into the debate of technical know-how or uniqueness of sound here :-P).

i tend to listen exclusively to coil when playing SD. their work is so stylistically varied that I have play lists to fit almost any of -my- mood swings.. as well as to fit whatevers going on in the game :-P however.. ive come to the realisation that the music i listen to doesnt always fit the way i play the game hrm *thinks*

anyhoo, that said, i do enjoy a few tracks that give *me* a CP feel
my favourite tracks lately are
'blue rats' (creepy spine tingling moody wonderblue rats pitter patter blue rats whats the matter?)
i am the green child (dementedly enjoyable)
ostia (while the subject matter is a bit odd, this track just seems fitting when your char is walking the back areas of withmore dragging a corpse around heh *cough*)
And the car reverses over
And his body rolls over
Crushed from the shoulder
You can hear the bones humming
Singing like a puncture
Singing like a puncture
Killed to keep the world turning
Throw his bones over
The white cliffs of Dover
And into the sea, the sea of Rome
And the bloodstained coast of Ostia

oh and free base chakra as well as the tunnel of goats stuff no lyrics, just nerve jarring filthy chaotic rhythmic madness heh. soothing music has no place in withmore.

then if really stumped for tunes i'll throw on some dirty goa. :P or uhm... some old leonard cohen. (don't ask... i blame my mother)

oh and modest mouse, while i'm not -too- familiar with their stuff, havingly only heard about them 2 or 3 months ago, i understand the appeal. what i have heard is amned good stuff!

and i'd like to say, they are coming here on the 12th  no more school + money + cool new (for me) discovery = woo! ima goin' oot baybeh!

now if only coil would snub montreal for once and come here... *sigh*

oh and i've been noteing down band names people so keep them coming! can't pass up an opportunity to hear something new.

just because i don't feel like posting this again.  :P

Mostly when doming, I listen to Rage, sometimes the newre audioslave, and Rob Zombie.  I put all the rage albums in m changer and Zombie's Sinister Urge and tell it to play.  If i'm in a fucked up mood, i play Opera. Puccini's Fantasy (O Mio Babino Caro); The Anvil Chorus (composer evades me); Nessun Dorma (Composer evades me); among others.  I also use a nice trance mix, of
PVD: Beutiful place, Techno Energy, for an angel
Aura: Destination Skyline, Carpe Deim, Himilaya
Chem bros: Hey boy hey girl

I tend to like the matrix soundtracks when playing also.

I know no one -realy- cares what we listen too. but I like looking at tohers cuase i find new muzik.

thanks.

That could explain the erie resemblance in voice…..
damn i gotta get outta this culture stricken hell hole of hicksville, TN....

I never get to experiance the good music until i hear5 about through here. or other vinues such as matrix soundtracks and what not....thats what got me on Rob Zombie, prodigy, propellar head, all that stuff.....Matrix ST rocks...Reloaded ST is more geared towards techno, but is still decent, it includes the animatrix on the 2nd disc and the orchestral tunes as well.

Maybe he means, like, the Sex Pistols. Or Toy Dolls, or something.
Yes, the Sex Pistols, the Ramones, the Buzzcocks, the Clash (…why are they all "the"?), The Pixies, it's an endless list.

More recent bands that hit the "true" punk sound, NOFX, Rancid, Frenzal Rhomb, Lagwagon, No Use For A Name, Swingin' Utters, early Offspring stuff (before they went pop), early Green Day stuff (ok, so that's going back more than a few years, but still, anything you've heard of by them probably qualifies as pop-punk), etc.

Don't forget the Beastie Boys before they went Rap. They got their start with punk… and it was damn good.

It's impossible to find, but their album Some Old Bullshit is the one I've heard that was really eye-opening as far as seeing them in a light other than rappers. Up until then I had thought thought they only ever did rap.

Personally I can't get behind any of the 'new' punk. I reconize and appreaciate Rancid's talent, but they're lyrics are so... highschool mentality. Same goes for Offspring. I mean when they were nobodys, they were fucking awesome. But popularity changed the nature of the beast.

Somehow when the Sex Pistols and the Ramones did it, it was just so much cooler. Watching Joey go for 2 1/2 hours straight at Lollapoluza was just fucking incredible... One song reaches the end, and there's no pause, no break, not even a missed beat. Just as soon as he can get the last word out, it's "ONE-TWO-THREE-FOUR!" and the next song is going.

Off the subject of punk, Tool has some amazing albums. Undertow was an incredible album, and their drummer just got more fucking amazing as time went on. Aenema had some great percussion, and the album after that was, while not the group's best effort, probablly the peak of their drummer's career. Their first album, Opiate, had a very edgy feeling that many people consider to be their best work.

Too bad they're all a bunch of heroin addicts. Poor Maynard.

-Kevlar

P.S. I love you, Joey Ramone!!!

Joey Ramone = Win

Even though he was almost as horribly disfigured by age as Mick Jagger.

I also forgot to mention, the Silent Hill soundtrack! (Silent Hill 1, not the..erh…'techno'-ish stuff used in SH2). Almost entirely percussion (and I just love that odd siren-like sound...those freaky zombie children..), and great titles. Maybe I'm just partial because all the titles are taken from songs of some of my favourite bands (the titles only, mind) - "Killed by Death", "Fear of the Dark" and so forth.

I remember the first time I played Silent Hill...didn't even know what it was, it had just been released. Hadn't seen any articles. I went over to a friend's place, he had hid the box and manual, and started up the game. Watched the intro...alright, cool. I was told the controls, made to press start, then, my friend opened the window (in the middle of fucking winter - 16th floor!), the snow was literally falling in, and he left the room and locked the door, and told me he wouldn't let me out until I'd played another two hours. Which I didn't understand...until ten minutes into the game. *shudders*

Almost as horrifying as William Shatner singing 'Mr. Tambourine Man'.

My Sindome play-list.

The Four Horsemen
The Disintegrators - Megadeth
Crucify - Soil

but yes! early offspring! damn it, they -where- good. :|
those who've mocked me i say "mock me no more!"

anyways, someone else that i've found fitting to roaming the dome, at least one particular album.

nick cave's murder ballads. .. hrm.. why do i feel i've mentioned that before somewhere?...
but really, any of his stuff before he quit heroin (ah musicians and poking things into their veins) and became an upstanding mature family man, though on his latest album, 'dead man in my bed' and 'babe, i'm on fire' are quite good rides, if a bit uhm... long on that last one. the rest? while the lyrics are still 'cave like' the music isn't my style and i picture my mother singing along to it without listening too hard.

hrm, if cave is mentioned, how about screaming banshee woman pj harvey?
hrm... there's not enough screaming banshee women mentioned in this thread.

Hey now! Iron Maiden can't be fought, Iron Maiden Can't be sought, Iron Maiden's gonna get you wherever you are. So there. Nobody does creepy-nasal-voice like Bruce Dickinson. *No one*. (As anyone who's heard Powerslave and Be Quick Or Be Dead, and the 'intro' of Number of the Beast can attest to! Woe to you, O earth and sea….)

Funny that, when I *started* playing here I used to listen to Nick Cave, The Pogues and Tom Waits almost exclusively. I think I remember how it went....the playlist, that is - venom's entire 'Greatest Hits', followed by "Red Right Hand" and a few other Cave + Bad Seeds tunes which I don't remember, followed by "The Earth Died Screaming", then, the entire Rain Dogs album (Tom Waits' best, IMHO), then a lot of Pogues/Shane + The Popes (basically every tune which involved Shane and Spider Stacy screaming their heads off - Down In The Ground Where The Dead Men Go, Waxie's Dargle, and so forth). It's all my ex's fault......crazy irish wimmin. SHE BIT ME, FUCK. But it's alright, I have my revenge - she's hooked on Donovan now! BAHAHAHAHAHAHA! HA!

Shit...I should dig up Rain Dogs and Bone Machine again...where the fuck did I put those?

Mind you, what I could really use right now is a live Blind Guardian show - I'm especially curious as to how they perform their latest album live, considering "And Then There Was Silence" had over 50 tracks....hell, the bleeding single hit #5 in Canada when it was released, unheard of for a power metal album released in North America. Must have freaked out a helluva lot of record execs. *sigh* At least Nightwish is coming in September.

That shit's better than caffeine, if you want drive. Hell, even my sitar-obsessed friends agree. Jai guru deva, oooommm...

(Edited by Murphy at 3:08 am on May 22, 2003)

I try to listen to Rush, almost exclusively when doin' the dome.

Only problem is, I can't hear the music over all those voices in my head.

(Edited by Max at 8:04 am on May 22, 2003)

Rush?!

Shit,  Max, it's official - I like you.

Tough times…demand tough talk demand tough songs demand tough hearts demand...

A select few of you will even remember the Rush song Jet Black covered.

Geddy Lee rocks.

I could use a Blind Guardian concert too, but seeing as how they only tour in east and central Canada I never will unless I go on a roadtrip. Or Iced earth.

I'd like to see them do And The Story Ends, maybe because that's what i'm listening to right now.

That song Steve Vai wrote for Interview with the Vampire, second track on the Ultra CD. I forget what it's called, it gives me a Cyberpunk vibe. He sings on it too, weird…

And Mael, IFTOS (Imaginations From The Other Side) is one of Blind Guardian's best albums, actually, probably their best - but right now I'm really stuck on 'A Night At The Opera' (particularly Precious Jerusalem, Battlefield and also And Then There Was Silence). I really like that new epic thing they started with the ATTWS single. What really annoys me is the tunes they did with Kai Hansen...alright, early Helloween was good, and Gamma Ray is okay (haha!), but shit, Hansi and Kai just shouldn't sing together. Kai's ranges are just discordant with Blind Guardian's style - he's more suited to the speedy shit that Helloween used to do (I Want Out is a prime example).

But hey, if you can get Iced Earth, go for it. In Greece they have this great metal festival, open air, sort of like Woodstock, except you get Iron Maiden, Blind Guardian, Judas Priest, Iced Earth, Venom, Manowar and the like....
The metal scene is all but dead in North America, it's a shame.

Yes, it does seem to be a dying scene. You'd probably see more Blind Guardian in Iceland than Canada. And it makes me wonder what the average person would think of when you  mention that genre. A few days ago I watched this MTV tribute thing to Metallica. I thought it might be okay.

But not a single metal band played, of course it was MTV. But Metallica was there, bobbing their heads to uh, Snoop Doggs cover of Sad but true.

IT IS A BLOODY SHAME

Kids these days.

Hmmm …

Poser gangs who's members are all rockeyboy types with face sculpts to look like rock stars from past days.

Cultish, stylish, technologically edgy ...

Granted, in game-reality it's 80+ years ago but hell, if Jet can cover a Rush tune, why not?

I'd love to see a ton of

Ozzy
Dee Snyder
Marilon Manson(?)
NIN
...

poser gangs.

But there would only be one gang of Rush posers.

Yes.  Only one.

And they would be good.

Yes, very good.

Actually, Mael, MTV did air the new Blind Guardian video for The Bard's Song - In The Forest. As far as power metal goes, BG are pretty much the only ones to get any REAL publicity over here. But then again, when it comes to power metal, they're pretty much the best since Helloween started sounding like…well..Bon Jovi. Bleh.

But Blind Guardian tours all over Europe, so I suppose if I want to see them before their next run through Montreal (I missed them last November! AGH!), I'll have to fly to Germany or somewhere.

Max...

Ozzy really started to blow around when he released No More Tears(94?). He went from metal to rock 'ballads'. Ew.
So if there's an Ozzy poser, there better damn well be a Randy Rhodes poser to go with ;) Or hell, an entire Black Sabbath poser gang. There's the ticket. Then I can shoot the Ronnie James Dio poser...heehee....um..

*coughs*

In CP2020, if you check the screamsheets in the rulebook, you'll see a few ads for a 'Club Retro', featuring biosculpted 'classic' rocker posers.

Wwaaaah??????

I should know more about what everyone's talking about, considering music is basically my life. I guess I don't know that much history or any of the good old stuff. I ussualy like to listen to a good deal of Joe Satriani (many of his are good for battles and skirmishes), almost all the tracks from Cowboy Bebop ("Adeiu", for a very goodblues-jazzy representation which someone will recognize :P), some Akira for "stalker" or just creepy ambience, Silent Hill for almost the same purposes, a bit of Stratovarius, bits and pieces of odd music I don't really know the names of or bands from the internet, and a good guitar rendition of Greensleeves was nice to listen during the climax of the SD wintertime. I really should expand my listening a bit..
Special thanks to Murphy who just got inadvertedly got me into Judas Priest.

P.S. - I keel over laughing sometimes putting on Vanilla Ice's "Ninja Rap" when Aikao walks into a room…

Personally for all those people (namely newbs) who are over-excited and friendly when they enter the gates of hell, I feel their song should be "I love a rainy night" by … Eddie Rabbit. [Moderation Mode: Link to copyrighted content removed.] Sometimes their just so friendly ya wanna smack one….i made the mistake of doing that to a guest and got smacked by the powers that be. *shrugs*

oh well. .

off to post somwhere's else.

I love a rainy night.
I love a riany night
I love to hear the thunder

Ya know it makes me feel good.

Wow….I'm impressed with the conitinuation of this post. I figured I'd get a few responses and that would be the end of it. Silly me. I haven't been in the Dome or even on the website in like three months...maybe longer, and when i camwe back in tonight to check out the board i saw this post still at the top of the list. Wow. Anyways.... I see a lot of good music being named on here and a lot of new bands i haven't experienced until seeing them here. Good stuff. Oh and by the way...one Rush album which is a must have, I didn't see it mentioned by anyone else but I may just be going blind in my old age. hahaha...anyways..Caress of Steel was Rush's best...I mean BEST album ever...if you haven't heard it..go get it now.....Also, for the Rob Zombie fans out there...get the soundtrack to his movie House of a Thousand Corpses...and go see the movie if you haven't done so already..it is an excellent work of morbid art. Thanks again for all the attention on this post and I hope to see the obscure bands get more mentioning....hopefully my work schedule will allow me to get back into the dome soon as well....thats it for now....I'll be back soon
yes.. actually, people -should- go see 'house of a thousand corpses' if only to experiance the longest ackward silence in a movie that you'll ever have the pleasure of watching (least to my knowledge) :P it's wonderfull in a packed theater, you can just hear people's minds going "oh god! the silence! must fill the silence!" you can make the experiance interesting and bet beforehand on how long it will take for the first person in the theater to let out a nervouse laugh or cough.

and no,  i'm not mocking it, i quite enjoyed the whole thing.  totaly forgot about picking up the soundtrack though.  glad it was mentioned

Who mentioned Hose of 1000 corpses ST?   I thought i did but i couldnt find it….anyway I have it and it's really good. the Ramones are on there along with some other good stuff.

bye!

-Tool

CDS27deep mentioned it.

ARUHGUAHGUARGUGHGUGAGRUAGRUAGRARHAGRUGAH.  Damn you, heathen!

Actually, I guess my own offical "theme" of Ike walking into a room would be "Perfect Night" from the Trigun soundtrack.

'Course it could also be "Never Could Have Been Worse," also from Trigun.  I guess this would be if he was in a good mood?

And when Ike's in his business state of mind?  "Disco Science" by Mirwais from the Snatch soundtrack.

Does that mean I'm not the only one with the TMNT2 soundtrack here?
Well, actually, I just downloaded that song for my own sadistic purposes. Sorry to dissapoint you Murphy, although I would like to get my hands on it sometime. :cheesy:
I have it, as a cassette. Some of the players over 20 here may remember what those are.

It was a 'gift'. It's very, very bad.

Heheheh.  I fancy myself as somewhat a collector of bad or utterly strange music.  Ever heard of The Kids of Widney High?
After having read and forgotten about this thread, I finally figgured out what CP music is to me:

Front 242.
Ministry.
Squarepusher.
Aphex Twin.
Orbital (the import with the skull on the front of the CD case).
Jungle techno.
Drums and bass techno.

And as a complete departure from that whole style of music:
Anything with slow jangly chords and a whiny bitch singing.
Detective and P.I. style songs. (think the Pink Panther theme song)

Not that I listen to any of this… well, I did at one time or another, but that this is the style of music I think my charcater hears in the world he's in, either blared out of a passing car or when entering a thumping club or a bar with a live preformer...

Or in his head, quietly playing as like his own little theme music, a silent beat with a perfect groove for an audience of one; A frequency which he can ride down the mix and into the night's run, or wherever it may take him.

-Kevlar

Jungle is a synonym for Drum & Bass.

I could totally see the Sinner's being bigtime into Jungle. :mirrorshades:

jungle is drum and bass that sucks.

thanks murph I thought I was the only one over 20 here (26) I have (somewhere) both ninja turtle  soundtracks.

when I do listen to music when I play (my girlfriend doesn't have speakers for her computer)
cp stuff:
of course NIN and lots of it including the crow soundtrack which I until recently didn't realize has a really CP feel, the music that is not the movie.(did Iga say that here?  "caw caw bang fuck….)
rammstein
manson
spawn soundtrack (a must have too)
there are more random ones but these are biggies for a cp feel.

if I'm in a techno mood:
orbital
PRODIGY for sure espically music for the jilted generation, but fat of the land too.

uh.. yeah that's some of it if your a metalhead download some In Flames (whoops:)) now they're fuckin talented, underated, and nice.*shameless plug*
I envy any of you out there closer to gothenburg than me, there's some good metal there.

Yes.

It is all about Aikao and Vanilla Ice. I've seen it man, it's sick.

Too me nothing is more cyberpunk than Johnny Cash for the emotional pain, Mindless Self Indulgence for the stupid indulgence speedy rock like stuff, and anything over 120 bpms, preferably around 140-180.

What, there's a porno?

CP is different things to different people.

Here's a great example of how broad that statement can be:

Genesis - Invisible Touch  was a very CP album.

How could a synth-pop-rock band dating all the way back to the 70's who's known best (late in their career) for their love ballads be CP?

Just listen to the tones and the lyrics of the album.

Domino - The Glow of the Night for instance:

"The grey of evening fills the room,
There's no need to look outside,
To see or feel the rain.
Then I reach across to touch her,
But I know that she's not there.
Rain keeps running down the window pane.
Time is running out for me."

"Sheets of double glazing help to keep outside the night,
Only foreign city sirens can cut through,
Nylon sheets and blankets help to minimize the cold.
But they can't keep out the chilling sounds.
Will the nightmare soon give way to dreaming
That she is here with me?
Here in the glow of the night."

And from part 2, The Last Domino
"Blood on the windows
Millions of ordinary people are there
They gaze at the scenery
They act as if it is perfectly clear
Take a look at the mountains
Take a look at the beautiful river of blood

The liquid surrounds me
I fight to rise from this river of hell
I stare round about me
Children are swimming
And playing with their boats
Their features are changing
Their bodies dissolve and I am alone

Now see what you've gone and done
Now see what you've gone and done

Now you never did see
Such a terrible thing
That was showed last night on the TV
Maybe if were lucky
They will show it again
Such a terrible thing to see

There's nothing you can do
When you're next in line
You've got to go domino

Now I'm one with the living
And I'm feeling just fine
I know what I must do
Play the game of happiness
And never let on
That it only lives in a song"

Tonight, Tonight, Tonight is another great example… a song of hopeless about their situation, but a pressing need to 'set things right', and escape from it.

"I'm coming down, coming down like a monkey, ooh but it's alright
It's like a load on your back that you can't see,
Ooh don't you know that it's alright
Just try to shake it loose, cut it free, let it go
But just get it away from me
Cos tonight, tonight, tonight - oh
Maybe we'll make it right
Tonight, tonight, tonight - oh.

Please get me out of here
Someone get me out of here
Just help me I'll do anything, anything
If you'll just help get me out of here
Tonight - oh, I'm gonna make it right
Tonight, tonight, tonight - oh."

-Kevlar

doesn't chance the fact that genesis sucks!!!

I'm sorry that was rude I do see what your saying though.

Genesis was kick ass till they decided to start sucking. No, really.

I've added quite  a bit to my CP music repertoire…

The foremost among these is Wumpscut. Total whoop-ass - Wreath Of Barbs is the ultimate in sneaking music.

Zeromancer is also quite noteworthy...from 'Doctor Online':

"It's the beginning of the end
You want things to go faster
It's the beginning of the end
Now everything's too slow for you
It's the beginning of the end
You are one step closer
It's the beginning of the end
Say Amen

1-800-SUICIDE
Or maybe Doctor Online could help you die
You need wings to fly
You need someone
To take your place when you are gone

It's the beginning of the end
You know nothing lasts forever
The beginning of a trend
You need someone there to care for you
It's the beginning of the end
I don't think you understand
Just the beginning of a flatline
Together

1-800-SUICIDE
Or maybe Doctor Online could help you die
You need wings to fly
You need someone
To take your place when you are gone"

And so on..

Suicidal Tendences is also high on my list at the moment.... "You Can't Bring Me Down" is always a favourite.

I'm also fond of this one tune called Question Mark, originally by Coptic Rain I believe but covered by a greek industrial band called Generic...

"A myriad of dreams
A myriad of goals
A myriad of hopes
In this myriad of souls

A myriad of smiles
A myriad of tears
A myriad of candles
In this valley of fools

With so many ways
So much to choose
It's easy to win
And even easier to lose
You're bound to fall
As you're bound to stand tall
When you are back up against the wall
Listening to my prayers
You're bound to find a way to erase
The question mark

A myriad of threats
Sowing unease
A myriad of wars
A sample of peace

A myriad of dreams
A myriad of songs
Which one is right
And which one is wrong?

A myriad of dreams
A myriad of goals
A myriad of hopes
In this myriad of souls

With so many ways
So much to choose
It's easy to win
And even easier to lose
You're bound to fall
As you're bound to stand tall
When you are back up against the wall
Listening to my prayers
You're bound to find a way to erase

With so many ways
So much to choose
It's easy to win
And even easier to lose
You're bound to fall
As you're bound to stand tall
When you are back up against the wall
Listening to my prayers
You're bound to find a way to erase
The question mark"

Yes, dude. I know. I used to be a huge Genesis fan. Before they started sucking. You don't gotta tell me.

if you'll look at the top of the page you'll see that I'm 26, and do definately remember genesis.

though there are alot of young-ens running around here… :)

Damn old geezers.

A really good bad for cp (atleast for those of us downunder) in the Transplants.  Check em out people.
Theres one song by Linkin Park.. 'Somewhere I belong' I think its called.  When I first started playing I listened to it alot.  It's an awesome song to RP too.  Or, www.RantRadio.com has a live industrial feed, that plays some awesome stuff.  Or I listen to gangster rap.  Theres nothing like Onyx or Geto Boys to get things going.
funny how i've shifted my musical playlist as i've gone on. soundtrack changed like soundtracks do.

Asian Dub Foundation gives me a nice boost for that combination of dub and breaks and african beats and asian harmonies and political messages and jamaican riffs and spanish and french…. you get the point.
floating melting pot music.

bit from -la haine-
"Somewhere in the ghetto where morality died
It's a rapid response and all the hands are tied
Ask the questions later raise the 45
Press it against his head watch him beg for his life
Now you're the judge, the jury and the executioner sealin' his fate
Now you're the judge, the jury and the executioner sealing his fate."

as well as Buck 65 for storytelling rap.

TMNT TURTLE POWER! TMNT TURTLE POWER!
I usually listen to shit Like Nirvana, or The Misfits, or the Doors.
I normally play to the sound of my cat Annoying meowing for some dumb thing like a fly or a bottle cap that is beyond her reach….

Soon I'll be ready to have kids

I'm not.

Vote Pro choice.

I don't think my listening habbits really change all that much because I'm playing SD..but who knows, maybe my habbits on SD are changed because of what I'm listening to!

Fear Factory
Machine Head
Soulfly
Sepultura
Dr. Dre
Nas
50 Cent
Guns N' Roses
Jamie Cullum
Pantera
NWA
Louis Armstrong
Faithless
Prodigy
Mozart

Variety is the spice of life.

oh, and children are evil. They're like real people, but smaller…I don't trust them.

Now that is a collection I like.

Dr. Dre followed by Louis Armstrong. Good mixes!

I like that list two.

*Downloads*

I've never listened to real heavy shit while Doming.  Maybe I should.  Usualy its rap, Hair Bands like Dio, or Guns and Roses.

*hed bangs*
take me down to the paradice city where the grass is green and the girls are pretty.. oh wont you please take me home!
Usually I just listen to THE SCREAMS OF THE PEOPLE TIED UP IN THE BASEMENT!  AHAHAHAHA!!!
Tech 9 is good too.  Or some Twiztid.  I don't have anyone tied up in the basement.. but the voices… hahahahaha... the voices yell sometimes...

*Giggles*

:werd:
Mmm the music thread reborn.
Lately, while doming, I've been listening to a decent mixture of random classics, not yet classics, and never to be classics. Some:
Nine Inch Nails,
Orgy,
Johnny Cash,
Clinic,
The Orb,
They Might Be Giants,
Black Sabbath,
Legendary Pink Dots,
The Streets,
Pink Floyd,
Tsunami Bomb,
Brave Combo
and uhm, the Kill Bill vl.1 soundtrack… not always in that order.

There's also the steady thrum of the police helicopter hovering over downtown, the water niagrafalling through the pipes, the sirens, the guy on the local street corner yealling at the crack whores to go home. And the fairly distant screams of the people tied up in Ike's basement.

Is it bad form to post after your own post? Screw it. I have 15 mins before I gota go.

Ive been mining the hulking stash of music we have at my place in order to weave a story telling hour of music.

Honestly, one can never have enough playlists.  Everytime I read this thread and see the wide variety of musical tastes you guys have I want to go back to making  odd mixtapes for friends. It's been more then 5 years since I did that. Christ. That is not acceptable. *wanders off*

Radiohead Wolf at the door
Leonard Cohen Woke up this morning [Off of the Sopranos soundtrack]
Tapeworm Pharm
The Pixies Is she weird
Neutral Milk Hotel Song against sex
Neutral Milk Hotel Communist's daughter
Radiohead Where I end and you begin
Nick Cave Knoxville girl
Funki Porcini The afterlife
Toxic Pulse Stasis
Garbage Stupid girl
Takako Minekawa Fancy work F
Thievery Corporation Lebanese blond
Blondie Good boys (Georgio Moroder mix)
Clinic For the wars
Nancy Sinatra - Bang Bang (my baby shot me down) [Off of Kill Bill vl.1]
PJ Harvey Who the fuck
Clinic The equaliser
PJ Harvey Pocketknife
Takako Minekawa Drive my car (Beatles cover)
Tricky w/ PJ Harvey Anti histamine
Poe - Trigger happy jack
Clinic D.P. [Yes, it is the track from the Mentos commercial with the psychotic lawnmower-riding sheep.]
Clinic Sunlight bathes our home
Leonard Cohen Road to hell
Takako Minekawa Telstar

And two local radio stations when I want to listen to something random but with a specific falvour.  Two shows on CKUA(.com) Shag Rug Radio and Future Funk. And CJSW(.com) Dead Air and DNA. In all honesty both stations have wicked late night listening from about 10 till the wee hours of the morning. :) Support your local radio stations! And if you are lacking decent local radio… support the local radio stations here! :P

All I have on my playlist is heavy shit…all heavy, power and true metal, plus some industrial (though all indus on my list is from the same bands - Zeromancer and Wumpscut)....hell, all I have on my cd rack is heavy, from 1972 (Black Sabbath - Paranoid, Deep Purple - Machine Head) to 2004 (Edguy - Hellfire Club, Icewind - Inner Storm)

Except that Elton John disc.

I have no idea how that got there.

.....

No really, it's not mine.

My top five songs…
White Rabbit-Jefferson Airplane
Light my Fire-The Doors
Detroit Rock City-Kiss
AngelFuck-Misfits
Plateu-Nirvana/Meat puppets
I have a mere 8 gig hard disk and something like a 4 gig mp3 collection, meaning i have to listen to CDS!!!! ACTUAL CDS!!!!!! and if i wanna upgrade my pc i need to sell my CDS AGHH. and and before you ask, i cant get a job cos i live in a FIELD. yes indeedy-o.

therefore i am reduced to a small number of stuffs including Front Line Assembly and Nine Inch Nails and some anime soundtracks for the CP feeling, and also Tool just because i cannot stop listening to them.
