Johnny and I just went to see another installment in the Animatrix: The Final Flight of the Osirus.
Talk about AMAZING. Absolutely breathtaking. Talking about it dosn't do it justice. See this on the big screen.
And when it's over, get up and leave the theater, because the movie that comes after it, Dreamcatcher, sucks sooooo incredibly bad that if you don't leave, you'll wish you had.

The thrid one is up!
It's pretty good. There's a hokey part near the end, but all in all the animation was great and the story was completely in theme.
I personally loved the fact that it was in black and white/shades of grey.

The only half decent Animatrix episode is the first one, with the fight scene, the rest are a downright waste of time, but then again - so is most anime.

I currently have a copy of the Animatrix DVD. I have seen all of the episodes at least 5 times each. And not to mention have watch all 80+ minutes of the commentaries. It really gives you a sense of pride in SD when you have something that is cyberpunkish in which you can relate the MOO to. I believe that my favorite episodes were the first and second parts of the New Renaissance (more so the second part because of all the killing and blood). I do agree that Final Flight of the Osiris was probably the best both on the imagination and the eyes for its awesome animation. If you enjoyed The Matrix I and II then either borrow, steal, or buy a copy of the Animatrix DVD.

I was fond of Detective Story (was it?) myself. Big Bogart fan, what can I say?

Final Flight of the Osiris was my favorite, but World Record had a certian artistic quality to it. Detective Story was really good too.
And if you can't appreaciate Anime, it's easy to find fault in it whatever form it takes. But for the rest of us this is definately an excelent example of the art form.

Regardless of what most people have told me, I think that Detective Story was one of the best. It also was well animated. Just because it lacked any color except red (classic to duire *has no idea how to spell that*) doesnt mean that it didnt kick ass.

Well, the entire point of Detective Story was to emulate (in a way) classic film noir style. Thus the main character's voice-over, the black and white, and the computer that looked like a rigged typewriter.

Kid's Story is most definately my favorite. Visual style, music, and just plot and emotion behind are amazing, and very, very inspiring. I really love the Renassance pieces, due to a feeling they gave me that I can't quite put into words. I loved the artistic style of World Record, but it's probably my least favorite to watch, tied with Matriculated. Beyond was also great.

Kid's Story had a design that was very unique. How they animated and went freehand was very cool and the color was what made it. The way the animation is rugged and un-focused helps you feel the drama and sense of emergency that the 'kid' was feeling while he was skating away from the agents and his fat teacher. The school by the way if you have seen the commentaries is an actual school in California (I think in California anyway). I do believe it is where the star of Kid's Story actually goes to school. I on the other hand think that Matriculated was very cool. It was a view at life for the humans that most people who have seen the Matrix haven't ever experienced before. But Beyond, I would have to say is my favorite. The Matrix glitch house was something very cool and out of this world. And when you think about it very realistic. If a computer system was running the 'world' You would think there would be somewhere that glitches would happen. Such as the rain falling through only one area in the house. Or the pavement that the little girl draws on with chalk but the drawings (And her shadow by the way) appear on a section of pavement right next to her. Very cool stuff.

The feeling I got was the same one that plauged my nightmares as a kid when I was running a very high fever (102+)… one of knowing exactly what's happening, or going to happen, and being completely helpless to stop it. Like your forced to do it the long, hard way which is so pointless that you can't help but be incredibly sad for the loss, when the right, simple, easy way is just a moment behind you. Like you've worked your entire life for something only to watch it shatter into a million gleaming shards from something so preventable... so... simple, leaving nothing but to trudge on without any hope of ever recapturing it.
I used to wake up from these nightmares, and it would literally take me an hour to recover from them... gradually the feeling of utter loathing and helpess would fade. But I can still remember the mental images as they rapidly faded from my fever induced sleep haze.

the pores! the pores! oh my god the pores on their skin… and the lighting, and the metal lookig like metal, and.... oooo.
that computer graphics magic is getting so close to realistic that my chosen carear path might be in jeopardy one day or mutate into something completely different.... gosh.
anyhoo, other then the steller rendering during 'the final flight of the osiris', the short didn't do much for me. i think i'm slightly jaded because i just saw it as mostly a "look what -we- can do" extravaganza without anything -but- the god damned -gorgious- graphics.
*cough*
am i contradicting myself here?
of course.
but my favorite had to be detective story, just for the style and film-noirishness about it and kid's story for how much it reminded me of 'waking life' and that dread feeling that was nicely put into words by kevlar.
the renaissance shorts reminded me very much of e-sheep....
