Desperately seeking sibling...?

(ah what a great way to make my entrance on the boards)

…so, um, if a character dies (Y'know, someone does something stupid kinda thing) - would it be acceptable for, say, a member of the character's family to show up looking for them? (And then, of course, end up RPing in Withmore of their own accord - either still under the pretense of "looking", or they may find their own reason for staying...)

Of course, 65million people, chances of running into someone who knew your long-lost brother are faaaaairly slim, but I'm just wondering. Y'know, it'd give someone a reason to be in Withmore... and a good icebreaker, early on (of course quickly realising that nobody knows anybody and so it wouldn't be raised much after the first week or so).

At the same time, I don't *think* it's OOC because the new character doesn't *know* that the original character died - and neither does anyone they're RPing with (necessarily - they may, of course). It wouldn't be a case of "treat me the same as person X", as they'd be their own character with their own personality (&hell, maybe they'd be a bit more streetwise as they've been looking for their sibling for howeverlong).
I can also see there are inherent risks being taken with admitting you know / are related to person X, which would be something the new character would pick up on quickly and the older characters would already know.

I'm just... thinking. I seem to have time to do that, now.

There have been cases of that yeah.
I'm not really a fan of relatives showing up after someone dies but too each their own. I have heard of two players starting character at the same time and making them related…either directly or just having some history together. I think thats pretty cool, after all, two newbies have the odds with them.
I think it's cool, as long as you make your first character have a brother in his/her history or something like that.
Please do keep in mind, we evaluate such things on a case-by-case basis because its often used as a lame ass way for someone to rehash a concept they tried with their last character and are too attached to.

It has been done right though and we've supported those players. :)
