A tall ragged man walks down a dark and quiet street. His hair is unkept, his clothing dirty and worn, his posture slumped. He stops under a flickering streetlamp and fishes into his pocket, pulling out a broken cigarette. Cursing under his breath, he sets about doing his best to repair the broken smoke, but his hands are unsteady and the tobacco sprinkles out of the torn end, littering the ground at his feet. Finally he gives up on the filter and sticks the unbroken end in his mouth. His hand dips into the inner folds of his clothing again, and he fishes around for a lighter. The silence is suddenly broken by a muffled song and lyrics eminating from one of his pockets, "I wanna fuck your skull! Fuck your skull, SKULL FUCKER!". The cigarette tumbles from his mouth, forgotten as he whips the phone out of his pocket and answers it…

A thin woman, smartly dressed in a business skirt and jacket strolls down the busy street, talking away on her cell phone. She smiles and nods in silent agreement to whatever the person on the other end of the line is saying, finally responding, "Allright. I'll see you tonight. Goodbye." and hanging up the phone. No sooner has she sliped phone into her jacket pocket when a muffled tune and male voice sing out, "Be be be be be be my baby tonight...." from her pocket. In a practiced motion she takes the phone out, opens it, and puts it to her ear saying, "Hello?".

What do you think of ringtones in a CP world? Gay for pay or a missing element of style?

I guess my post wasn't really clear on my stance.. I think it would be a good idea.  It would add to theme nicely.  Would they be customizable, or would you choose from say 10?  And whats wrong with Biz Marke!?

Ringtones suck.

I can imagine some corpie children and others using them, but not corporate workers with a respectable status, nor Red dwelling scum that want to actually survive, meaning they'll want to easily be able to distinguish receiving a call from someone trashing the place nearby.

Bassically, they're for loosers ;).

I don't imagine the status of ring tones being the same in 80 years from what it is now either!
So a back to basics approach could be rather plausible.

Actually I like that Idea, Just let's you get a message of it vibrating, but it would have to be on you, and if it wasn't you couldn't get a message of it getting a call, oh but then people would begin to think that they need to have a missed call list, and that'll bring up the Voicemail talk again, and blahablahblahblah, I think the ringtones are kewl, and themely, not to big on the vibro dealy.

Hey, that gives me an idea..
Would you be able to record your own ringtone?

Maybe there could be a terminal in pac west.. You go in, slot your phone, pay a little bit of money and then sing to the machine.. And it touches up your voice, blah blah blah, and creates a ringtone and downloads it to your phone.

Or something.

Ringtones are currently a fad.  Fads change with time.  I like the old concept of KISS.  Keep it simple, stupid.  So, nay to the ringtones.   Maybe add voicemail, but to hell with ringtones.

If the ringtones could be stored on the character and set by the player, it could work….

So the player would go:
@ringtone me is BLEEP BEEEP WOOOOOWZA

And the cell reads that value and displays it, if there is no variable set it uses the default BREEEEP

nice, elegant. leaves the personalization/style aspect up to the player. if they want it.
It even works for vibrate for those people that like uhm vibrating things, without too much dicking around with the phones themselves
