So tell me what you want...

I've been racking my brain and working my ass of trying to think of ways to make the clothing more themely. I've spoke with admins, chatted with a couple players, watched about every futuristic sci-fi movie I could get my hands on and paused them to look at the clothes.

Now I'm taking it to you the players.
Share your thoughts and opinions. Maybe you like something you've already seen in the game and want more of it, maybe you hate it all.

What would you imagine fashion to be like in 2087? What would you like to see more off, less of?

Also - though Tash has used an IC reason for no longer selling leather or synth-leather for those of you after the OOC reason its because it is obviously armoured material and I'm doing my part to make it easier on the admins coding armour by limiting the crap already out there.

I picture it being mostly kinda slutty as far as girls are concerned.  And it would be shimmery and kinda random. Well, that's a bad explanation, but I don't think it would be anything that looks old-fashioned in anyway.

I know Tash hasn't made these things, but I always think it's weird when people are walking around wearing vintage clothing on Red.  This would make them stand out strangely, and they'd probably be immediately mugged or robbed if their clothing looked old and vintage.  I mean, if you're walking around wearing a full white outfit, including fancy ruffly shirt, and a big frilly skirt, you're going to attract attention on the streets of Red where clothing is mostly tattered, rough, and basic.  Not that it can't have style, but the style would be simply futuristic.

I enviosion shimmeriness, lots of spikey looking things, basic jeans, but they'd most likely look funky, shirts that show lots of cleavage and most likely in odd styles. I expect they'd display belly or shoulder or back, and have cuts that to us would seem weird.  There would be lots of cheap artificial synth-leather that isn't armored, and probably imitation animal skins, maybe furs.  I like the logo'd t-shirts that Tash comes out with, those are very believable.  What about clothing that has sort of a holographic effect. You know those stickers that change the picture depending on which way you look at them? Shirts could display logos and advertisements that way.

I'd like to see lots of cheap corporate merchandise, like shirts advertising Viriisoma and AER, and Skywatch… maybe with catchy slogans. Sure, no one would like wearing those things, but they'd be cheap and available.  Of course Tash's line of clothing is far above that, but it'd be nice to see some around all the same.  How about shirts advertising for various players too?  Has anyone ever thought of asking Tash to make them t-shirts to advertise, which they could hand out to people?

Jewelry would be all silver, and lots of spikes, or else plastic-looking, and once again, kinda luminescent and holographic looking. It's be cool if there were little necklaces that had screens on them that could display images.

Shoes would be lots of huge heels in various styles, mostly black, or with tons of futuristic lines covering them, like Adidas on V-202.  That, and very basic simple things that can be layered and come in varying colors would be neat.  I think there would be a lot of clothing that looked like it was sorta made out of or coated in plastic or rubber.  Yeah, well I could go on but you got me started and this post has been plenty long enough. Hope it has been some inspiration for you.  I know what it's like to have trouble thinking up things for your character to create, but good luck.

And incidentally, you are already doing a really great job. Tash is definitely a huge contribution to the life of Withmore, whether most of them dumb water-logged Slumrats know it or not.

Hey Kiami wore all white *grins* but then she did look out of place on red, and was meant to. Yeah I would recomened Neal Stephenson, especially Snow Crash and The Diamond Age for inspiration, they contain good character descriptions, and are a great read :). Yeah aslo Japanese teanage chicks style would seem to fit to the theme. Green hair, plastics, synthetics, big boots with fish in the heels, and yes plastic jewelry. Pastal colours :). Erm yeah the shimering thing would be great, I could imagine some lady on red wearing synthetic polly chromatic clothing that fits like a second skin, and has shimering spinny colour changes, and fractal effects. Maybe with a colour change option like the dildos *grins*. For guys black sounds good to me, leather really is a must. This is deviating a lot but it is in the area of fasion aswell as to have real dark clothes, so dark they increase stealth, I can imagine someone standing there against the night sky and as they move only bits of their body shows, like suddenly their arm isn't visible. Yeah and ovals cut into the back of t-shirts for females. As well as on the tops of shoulders..ovals I say. The Diamond Age has some cool description of media glythic tatoos (holgraphic basically) that has colourful animations all over the body. That could easily transfer to a body suit etc, but this is all getting rather like ideas that need code. Hmm maybe that's becuase the clothes seem fine to me, you don't sell vintage stuff, and so maybe it's some people should be re-educated about how clothes are in 2087, is that possible *shrugs*. And erm, I think especially in a place like Sindome it would make sense for the fasion, or attire of its citzens to be very diverse. What could be built upon is definite clothes destinctions in style. So more suit choices for corpies and more shell suits for gangers, and tacky clothing for street urchins. Well I don't know, but cp is a lot about social devide, and Neal likes to make characters clear, and easily pre-judged by how they look, and seems right for Withmore. Hmm I'm done. Please excuse spelling mistakes and typos, it's late *grins*. Even though I am gone now (yep actaully gone) I would be happy to write some clothes descriptions some time if you want, well I thought the clothing I made before was good. Design is my thing *smiles*. I think that covers it ^_^
Hehehe, how many times will you keep coming back to say you're gone? ;)

*Starts a tally…*

No shit.
I know! I know!
Trenchcoats and mirrorshades!
Hey…..doesn't mean I can't/won't post *grins*. Oh and there should be shorts *smiles*. Funny how I havn't even seen one pair of shorts ever in Sindome. They would go well with roller blades when they come. ^_^
Don't forget the 80's element!

The cyberpunk genre basically came about in the late 70's and early 80's - so I see latex clothing in garish yellow and black, day-glo pink, mohawks and spiky hair, poofy bleached hair, bright neon colors, plenty of leather with spikes, studs and chains, T-shirts with the bottom half torn off, jeans with those repeated horizontal tears on the thighs.

Oh, and trench coats and mirrorshades.

Hey…. Lucien has had shorts.. He had two pairs as a matter of fact, wore them he did when he felt like showing the tatt on his ankle. As a matter of fact, Tash made them.

                                                IHADSHORTS,
                                                     Lucien

Tylissa has shorts too, and she walked right by Kiami wearing them the other day! In fact she is wearing them now, they're leather… very sexy.
A'ight. This is going to be like Field of Dreams I'm telling you now. If you say you want it and I make you you'd better buy it and not bitch.

Well, okay, yeah I can't make you buy it if its not something your character would wear. But you get the jist of what I'm saying.

And - Wanseya, though your post was very well thought out I really don't have the time nor the inclination to go reading books to find descriptions. That's why I did this. I've been doing that and watching films and frankly even though most of them are great films the clothing tends to be just slightly funky contemporary or retro clothing that we'd see normally today.

Timmy also wore shorts that Tash made. Tash has worn shorts, booty shorts that were Nicad shorts.

Style over substance.

It's better to die in designer gear, than live in something that's last season!

Bright colours! I want to see more neon and glowing things.

:)

Back when I was a tailor I looked at these sites when I ran dry on ideas:

http://www.chainlinkaddiction.com/
http://www.fetishkitten.com/
http://www.overmode.com.au/cyberware/index.html
http://www.overmode.com.au/cyberware/articles/cyberpunk-fashion.html

I also looked at modern fashion stuff like you'd see in Elle or whatever. Also made shit up. Looked at comics. Hope that helps.

Onizuka comes crawling out from under the rock he safely reads the boards from.

I have never posted on here before and felt this thread needed my attention. Oni goes to Josephine's almost daily to see what kind of new things Tash has made available. So I figured I might be able to add a few good ideas. Maybe they'll all be crap, but at least this got me to post. *shrugs*

Anyway. I like the way she's been making things recently. Solid color's, mostly dark for men and light pastel's for women. When I envision clothes in Sindome, I don't see the tacky 80's cyberpunk. I see a more refined, slick, sense of style. Very tech. Yeah the street urchins of Red might lean more towards trashy cyberpunk, but I see clothing that shows style and class. Remember, the cyberpunk fashion we see in movies is an extension of the fashion of the real world time, like the 80's. Realistically, fashion evolves and progresses. Compare what we wear now to that of the 70's and 80's. Of course there is always going to be retro wear, but don't you think that in 90 years fashion will have evolved to a point beyond what he have now. Something far more stylish and trendy, not reverting back to the tacky and trashy 80's?

I say stick with what you've been doing. Elevate fashion, don't revert. Just because Sindome in concept is based on a movie genre created in the sci-fi of the 80's, doesnt mean it has to be a cookie-cutter version.

Oh I feel the flames a'coming…

Just a side note. More selection at Josephine's would be grand. Maybe instead of 3 racks with 6-10 items each, 5-6 racks with 10 items each would be better. And if containers ever got finished and released, people might buy more clothes. If they could keep them in a trunk in their room, instead of in a locker away from their cube or strewn all over the floor, people might be more inclined to buy lots 'o stuff. Cause they'll have an accessible place to store their items in the privacy of their cubes. Personally, I don't like keeping loads o' crap on my floor, so I keep it in a locker. It's a pain in the arse to go all the way up to gold just for a change of clothes. But I ramble...

Its not so much that I've run dry, though I will check out those links - Nic likes to look at fetish clothing sites *snicker* -  as its that I'm tired of making the same old shit.

I'm telling you that Tash has probably made around 50 pairs of jeans and almost an equal number of trenchcoats since taking up the business.

I do like Tylissa's idea of holo-clothes. I broached this subject a while back and have finally gotten around to releasing a shirt with a nanometre thick holoscreen on it. Before you ask how its possible it is and I have a husband who's an engineer/physicist who can prove it so neener. Or something.

Forgive me I've had a bit too much sun today.

And I agree with Onizuka, I see the poorer people on red wearing cheap, trashy, brash clothes that Tash for instance wouldn't be caught dead in. And I can also see the bored housewives on Blue wearing it when they go slumming.

The last thing we want is players hoarding clothing in a trunk thank you.
How I'd like to see Sindome fashion:

Recycled wear, ala Tank Girl

Check out the outfits being worn in that movie. Reuse is a major theme. Absurd colors and seemingly inappropriate cuts and fits.

More piercings and body art too. Crazy hair, experiment.

Theres nothing wrong with being a poser ICly either. Everything goods already been done before anyway, right? Repeat at will. Note I said Repeat. Anything "vintage" would be a fake or a 'designer imposter'.

Be loud, be proud, be a cy-punk.

Sorry Tyl, didn't read you're characters descriptions *grins*, well not that time. Erm yeah I like the insite into the origins and yeah agree with ono, and like I said holo, polychromatic clothes would be cool, as Tyl stated. Hmm….I simple don't have the time for SD by the way to clear that up. And might even post more than I used to if Johnny doesn't mind *glances across the vast ocean at Johnny nervously*.

Oh and tash films really are a bit rubbish for clothes, I don't know but if you're ver in a book store, want a book or have spare cash to burn you may aswell get on of neal's novels, good value by the way *grins*. And just skim, find some descripitions and you could even copy them.

I really think there should be some uber expensive clothes, such as more designer suits, ones with inbuilt holsters etc, and polchromatic ones like that guy in Neuromancer *strains to remeber his name*. I forgot sorry, but he basically had a camilian suit, maybe even a better example than Neal Stephensons holo tatoos (well it is).

However I see that this is a lot of effort but maybe it could be a little project for the admins after they have finished their -tones- of coding already sceduled. Yeah, coded more advanced clothes of all the styles is my sugestion, along with just clothes of all the styles.

*shrugs*

*hopes that didn't come out that baddly*
I'm at college right now, yeah. It's cool, and raining *grins*
Later people and don't get confused why I still post, I just do *grins*. Well forums rule and cp is cool, makes sense. I might come back next year *grins* for a while or a little taste.

*reverts form the off topic personal splurings*

As a final note, I really think the clothes are fine; people can make their own from cloth (IC reasons aplenty) and maybe in the future bought clothes could include very expensive suits with holsters etc, and inbuilt pockets that act as wallets for the corpy, polychromatic trashy dresses for red's hookers etc, and camelian suits for the stealth killer, or intrevert. *grins*

Like Johnny says......Enjoy ^_^

k… here's my take on how i see fashion on red.
yeahi knowdoesnt my char wear a a grubby pair of overalls 90% of the time? like what do i know about fashion eh? *grin*

i see the lovely equation as *deep breath*

one part beggar. clothing and stuff made from whatever material one can scrounge up. rubber, paper, plastic, human flesh even?... and even in abject poverty some people would be more concerned with fashion and impressing others. you always get those who want to impress no matter how little they have to work with. i see mostly dirty, torn, stripped from dead bodies/weaker people, dirty, dumpster dived oh and did i mention dirty garments? pants made from melted down and reworked salvaged rubber, bubble wrap dresses with salvaged metal claspes, skirts made from a piece of threadbare carpet/furniture fabric, sweaters woven from human/animal hair, shoes made from paper reinforced with twine, rat skin moccasins anyone? all the rage i can even picture designer rat skin moccasins made from baby albino rats reinforced with kevlar insoles! for those on blue who just NEED to feel a little red. (so...i guess ill add one part faux beggar)

one part cheap knock offs of whats seen on the denizens of green. those with a tiny bit of money to spend get to wear those pretty, shiny, neon, glowing, wavy clothing made in sweat shops.... but it just isnt the same as the true fashionistas. its like the walmart wear of the future. :P (i think clothes we make for our chars on our own fits in here as well)

one part style ( i guess the stuff that Tash makes comes in here) the designer wear. brand names that have a known style and look and feel. if that makes sense. the clothing the one's on green wear to feel dangerous and the ones on red wear to stand out from the rat moccasin/walmart crowds. all those already made articles of clothing come in here ideas? hrm
vinyl fetish wear with neon holographic spikes, balls, snaps ect. fabrics woven with displays right into their mesh (we could see that in our own life times kids), colours and fabrics that shimmer and flow like liquids, iridescent flickering. materials that change according to temperature, ambient light. beads made from trapped light/liquids ok.. so not really ideas, just descriptive words. heh. of course such things as the simple cocktail dress and tank top... i doubt will ever go out of style. but i think wed see a more ethnic mix of fashions. trends from all cultures, head wraps, shawls, robes, veils, loin clothes made from fibre optics? k my imagination is getting a bit carried away now. sorry.

one part military? i dont like that word combat/protective would be better probably, here we can put all the armoured stuff yet to be designed and whatevers out there that can protect you more then those damn rat moccasins :)

and oddly enough, one part cult/medical/, and i'm not talking about silly nike's here. i mean lab coats, scrubs, religious spin offs of robes and getups from the collision between the sciences and faiths of billions of people. i bet ive lost people here. fetish wear but with a spiritual spin? futuristic nun/monk/priest robes, shamanic priest/esses gone high tech. what is the latest trend in religious nut wear? what are the followers of lord jeremiah the cloner wearing this season? *giggle* sorry i cant help myself. but i do see this as a very specific part of any fashion in a city and culture such as a CP city like the dome.

and to be honest, ive never seen my char as being interested in clothing/fashion. thats NOT to say i havent spent tons of time making an article of clothing JUST RIGHT for her *sheepish grin*. but in reality, she wouldnt wear half the stuff out there, and again thats NOT to say lot's of the stuff isnt damned cool. ive even ran across a really nicely described silver almost like liquid dress at josephines which i could see bias done on occasion. but sadly, not enough money at the time.

*cough* now im rambling. but yeah, that's what i see in my head. :)

oh.. and id like to see more mirror shades and leather trench coats please! yesh...

ps. just a note. i came back from my vacation and ran into a new NPC ?( i think that's the term) at least one i hadn't noticed before and she had fiber optics in her hair and i thought that was DAMNED cool! so yeah. uh.. anyways.

*wanders off*

(Edited by Bias at 7:51 pm on Sep. 9, 2002)

Thank you Bias. You said it better than I could have. That was perfect.

-Kevlar

Speaking of robes and religions, why aren't there Hare Krishnas at Neotrans selling plastic flowers?
They're Done! Yay! *does Kermit the Frog impersonation* (Or is that immuppetation?)

Anyway, the clothes are done. Weeks and weeks - quite litterally of work and they're done. Almost five hours yesterday of entering them into the moo just so you all could have characters who could possibly be smartly dressed.

You asked for bright colours and more interesting materials and you got them.

You asked for NKO and you got it, but you also have the more exclusive designer label N.Kwan Originals still for the more posh stuff.

So go check it out. Tell me what you think.

i think, that is the most STUFF i've seen a single store sell since i started playing. i just stood there and went 'look X on X' "oooo" for a good bit. and there's even stuff i can see my char wearing! so cool.

that must have been so tedious. but we appreciate it.

Four words:

Ballistic mesh monk's habit

Hehe.

I'd love to see Bob's disciples walking around in armoured monks robes with shafts that have secret weapons compartments. That'd kick ass.

Or maybe not the Church of Bob, but a more militant fringe religious group on RED. That'd be hilarious. Those the Jesus freaks that used to come to the university and spout out rhetoric at all of us while wearing signs saying that we were all sinners and going to hell.

Sucked seeing their kids wearing them though. Talk about child abuse.
