Withmore General Laws

I'm wondering what the structure of law is in the city.  Like, are there lawyers?  I know the Judges are the police and they have the power, but say you get injuried on the job, or say you have a property dispute.. who do you go too then?  A council of high judges?  A corperate council?
There are corporate lawyers who deal with corporation-to-corporation negotiations.

There are no personal lawyers. Just Judges.

If you get hurt on the job, you deal with your corporation. If you are subcontracted from a smaller corporation to a larger one, your primary employer (smallcorp) has a legal department that deals with the legal department of your contract employer (bigcorp).

If your company doesn't have a legal department, you can ask the Corporate Council for arbitration.

If you are not employed by a corporation you have the legal clout of a dead kitten.

If you are a mixer, you have the legal right to stay the fuck off Gold, eat the left overs that corporations drop into the sewer, and generally stay the hell away from any situation that would even remotely call for a lawyer. Because you won't be able to afford one, and Judges will just shoot you before you get to anyone with any legal training anyhow.

If you have a property dispute that is outside the corporate sphere you contact a Judge, and they determine the outcome.

At any time a Judge can pass any ruling they wish. If a Judge wants, they can tell you to go publicly flog yourself as punishment, and you have to do it. The Book Of Law is a guideline, it says so in there, that is meant to give Judges a loose guide on what to do for certain crimes. But ultimately, the Judge has sole control over punishments handed out. Be they fines of clone deaths.

In situations where a Judge becomes unstable, or unsuitable for the job, Judicial Inquisitors are called in. Inquisitors are the Judges of Judges.

Citizens do -NOT- have the ability to contact Inquisitors. Citizens can -NOT- ask for a Judge to be put on watch. Citizens who wish to file a complaint against a Judge have only one way to do so: through another Judge.

This is a martial law city. Under martial law, lawyers get shot first.

Excellent, thanks for clearing that up Iga.

mmmmmmmm….martial law....

I had never realized the full extent and responsibilities of the Judges.  I suppose some of that comes from living in the mix and not really needing to know the ins and outs of corperate society.
Its all about how well your connections and words are. The incorporated entities of the city are the real power in the city; you may not be a corporate powerhouse but you might just know a guy who knows a guy, eh?
