A->Z who
Because ctrl+f foo is too strong

Right now the "who" can be used in either of two ways, either get the entire list and ctlr+f for the name you are looking for, or go icly about it and do "who name". Problem is that ctrl+f is a client-side thing, and gives you a pretty nice advantage as you can get all the info you need from a single "who" call with it, compared to needing multiple ones without it.

I think it's a bit unfair to those not playing in a client (like the official browser client) which supports ctrl+f search, compared to say mobile clients which generally do not. While having who ordered A->Z would drastically eliminate the need for ctrl+, as your eyes will be able to traverse the list fast enough for what you need. What would be the downside of it?

Alternatively, this could be done as very low tier chrome, something for newbie doctors to install for couple key. Affordable and optional, adding a bit to cost of getting creased.
Jumping on this to add I like the idea of some more 'entry level' chrome in general, and an 'advanced SIC' chip with a couple of QoL features like this would be interesting. Could also have the ability to add SIC aliases to a 'Contact List', and then if those aliases are in the list they could be shifted to the top of the results list and offset by a set of hyphens, or even a different color (tying in with other SIC color change ideas being discussed elsewhere). Could be done as a higher-grade chip entirely or as like a firmware upgrade done by a cyberdoc (someone else made this suggestion, sorry I don't remember whom).
Yes! The more I think about it the more I love the idea of some entry-level chrome. Stuff you can afford in first/second week with good hustle, without breaking the bank. This will not only be fun to have, but also allows you to experience chrome early, and get some RP going with other newbie chrome doctors.
An A-Z who list allows people to spam WHO to more easily meta about if someone has switched off an alias, IMO. Obviously able to do now, but an A-Z option just streamlines it.

For me, a random IC WHO list helps as a reminder to the chaotic nature of how many people are in the city.

Em, how would that make it easier? I don't think I follow, and if someone wants to meta around alias chopping, its pretty easy to do as it is.
I am wholly against this. The random sorting of the who list is intentional, and helps to make a lot of subterfuge possible that would otherwise be easily noticeable.
I think that's why the idea's already being nudged toward a kind of 'upgrade' route. Pay chy -> gain an advantage.

I think the 'advantage' angle is being overstated, though. People drop on/off the list, sometimes frequently, for a number of reasons. People hop aliases for a number of reasons. People gain/lose signal for a number of reasons.

Myea, if your subterfuge replies on the perception that people can't compare randomized list, but could ordered one then it really is no good subterfuge. But to offset that, why not add random sic names, just like we have random NPCs roaming the streets?
Don't presume there aren't. :)
OOCly I know that right now the majority of the time there are no random npcs on "who", ICly of course my character doesn't presume that. But hey, if the water is too easy to navigate to tail alias choppers, then I think alias chopping needs a redesign, rather than relying on obscurity.

maybe we come up with a way to flash illegal firmware on your sic, make it a hacker thing.
Even better! Let deckers reprogram the chip and install/create all sort of interesting programs to make your life easier. Heck, combine the both - ripper to install more capable chips, decker to program them!
Correct me if I'm wrong, but...

You're not supposed to identify who hopped alias based on what who.dat says. That's small-worlding.

There are 65 million people in the dome, and plenty are sleeping and waking at all times. Who.dat is ICly only returning a handful of chips at any given time, and the absence of a certain alias on who.dat should give you zero IC information.

Now, as far as I know, doing "CA JaneBaka" is a valid way of catching that person who is praising JaneBaka, but only if you have IC suspicion that that voice could be JaneBaka. Just be prepared for the consequences.
