No fake skies or weather in the Mix
Only rain, all night, all the time.

It's just more atmospheric and cyberpunk and it makes more sense than Skywatch spending the trillions required to generate an artificial sky and weather. "Rain" (read, acidic sewage runoff from the Gold plate) and fog can still exist naturally, but no more fake sun or fake snow or anything illuminating except the loglo for the underclasses.
But it was already developed. The budget was already spent when the Dome was built.

Goddamn it doublepost bug.
The entire system is life-support. Who's to say that heatlamps and freeze-cycles aren't critical parts of the environmental maintenance?
Yeah, I think the idea was the dome was supposed to be some sort of fluffy utopian escape from the horrors of the 21st Century... just it didn't turn out so good...

It is plausable that the fake sky stuff could have broken down as maintenance was abandoned on Red over the years though, so I wouldn't say the idea is wrong and/or bad :)

You can have air ventilation and heating without simulated skies and authentic outdoor weather.
Sure you can but "ventilation and heating" aren't all there is to it. It's a dome, it's a semi-closed system. Remember Biosphere II? Lore says Withmore Hope Corporation modeled this dome after that experiment.
There was no holographic sky in Biosphere II.

Especially not in the sub-basement level where the mole people lived.

I'l concede "holographic sky", but "heat lamps" are part of the "artificial sun" effect.

Red wasn't supposed to be a slum, until their free immigration laws caused nearby victims of destructed settlements flood the city.

But at the same time, if it had broken down by now, people would have noticed. If it all of a sudden changed, they wouldn't be like 'hey, it didn't work for years already', they'd be like 'WHOA WHERE DID THE SUN GO?!'.

A compromise however, that I think could be pretty cool, would be if the sun/moon and sky effects glitched out a bit from time to time. Like a hologram flickers.

@idea start an in-character society predicated on resentment that Red Sector has to be provided with heat in order for Green to have fresh air.

It's all tied together and, theme wise, RP wise, or builder wise, "un-doing" it wouldn't come for free or present any benefit to anybody anywhere.

The system fails, Skywatch claims due to a terrorist attack, though some cynically believe it is a cost-saving measure. Mixers outraged. Tensions increased. Skywatch stakeholders applaud the savings and revel in their newfound exclusive access to skies.

Handwave complete.

A moon/sun that glitches is a much better facade to me. Unmaintained system, very cyberpunky.
Remember that the energy is already free (geothermal) and doesn't need to be saved, but that handwave doesn't to me justify the costs of the re-engineering involved to pull this off.

I get the idea, if building a new world, sure, why not build it this way. This one's already kind of baked and like I said @ideas which don't introduce a new feature, QoL benefit, or new kind of RP opportunity aren't very likely to be acted on.

Make a case for how this would stimulate cooler gameplay?

If the moon and sun and stars glitch like a hologram once in a while, they will feel way more fake and remind people they're all in a glass dome. Just wanted to add to my thoughts, this would really give me a dystopian cyberpunk vibe. Imperfect, like SIC. Even if it works.
Everything that happens at night and in the rain is 1000% cooler.
I've always perceived the weather effects as oppressive for the mix and atmospheric for topside. The Dome's is artificial, yes, but it's supposed to be representative of a real life city. Gun shots heard through the pouring rain are cyberpunk staples and I would positively hate to lose this at any point. I think it's fine as is.
I hope you all treat it ICly when the lightning doesn't change when its supposed to or the weather system goes out of whack and you get a bad storm instead of stable weather patterns. These systems are meant to be ICly hackable.

Thanks for explicitly calling that out. I have been noticing some anomalies lately, but I wrote them off as OOC code glitches and not actual IC environmental elements to be commented on.

I would like ambient descriptions with WCS services people fixing things in the Mix and also maybe have like random blackouts not just SIC, but full power outages that have like a clock or a cool down and the reset.

Basically they become temporary dark rooms, so you couldn't see into that room and people in there could bring out their flares, flashlights and cyber safety lights.

Not to mention all the hilarious RP that would ensue.

@ErgoProxy, holy shit. A blackout, even briefly, would be amazing. People lose their minds when SIC goes out, but I can't even imagine a power outage. This would be great, and feels like a plot.
