Winter 2024 Town Hall Topics
Submit your topics here!

Hey All -

Soliciting topics for the discussion portion of our 2024 Winter Town Hall. Throw your ideas out in this thread. Please avoid discussion of ideas here. If you're putting your own ideas up feel free to call out that you also think a topic that has already been proposed would be a good idea.

Looking forward to seeing you all there!

I would propose discussing the topic of using an overly heavy hand to deal with small scale issues. I think the crux of the topic would be how appropriate use of force could go a long way to encourage and not discourage aspiring petty criminals.
Maybe a discussion on what people think about getting rid of IC names in the town hall. Personally, I think it's a shame. What better place to discuss it than at a town hall?
Some discussion topics:

The state of conflict in the mix and topside

Discussion about bleed and how to manage it

The new immy experience - how can new characters (and/or new players) get involved in conflicts and plots in a way that they still feel welcomed?

@Notes and puppet requests - What makes a good @note? What should people @note?

Are We Doing a Good Job? - Ask the New Players directly.

Theme, response, and the limits of the charging world- What is realistically possible for a player to accomplish?

I agree hearing from new players is a must and I'd like to see them have one or two sections where only they talk, if their attendance numbers make sense anyway.
Possible topics, depending on interest:

Game World Change

Possibly open the game world up to more and greater change. Maybe it doesn't always have to be the same X gangs, same X syndicates, same X stores. Maybe the pecking order can change and not be so limited and catagorized.

Loosening Lanes and Tiers

Possibly allow conflict between groups that are often not allowed to conflict. Maybe Allow independents the ability conflict more with established groups. Maybe lessen the tier structures, allow moving of groups between tiers.

More Than Combat

While there is a place for characters that are not combat characters, so many groups insist that you have to be able to fight. Maybe consider revamping this and the NPCs in groups. Maybe a gang could benefit from a fixer, chemist and dip more than they can from three more punchers. Maybe Security or TERRA could like a secure tech, sneak or Medics more than another gun. The idea that so many groups reauire that everyone must be able to fight at least "a little is a little" odd to me. Especially when "at least a little" often means ""handle the average immy" which means "better than average fighter in the dome" in IC terms.

Encouraging Conflict

This is a bit of a dead horse but I think beating it is still productive. Maybe some talk and ideas on how to encourage conflict. From a range of angles. How can greeters and in game documentation encourage conflict? How can the midbies and oldbies encourage conflict? How can staff and NPCs encourage conflict? This ties in a little bit with the lanes and tiers above as they severely limit conflict by limiting the field.

"Find Out IC" and how that really shouldn't be the answer for asking how to do things codedly.

Nothing was more annoyingwhen I was brand new then when i asked commands to do stuff on xgame and people told me 'find out ic'

I think a section of discussion being a sort of interactive roadmap would be a good idea.

The coding branch only has so much time and energy to devote to large scale programming projects. I think that there should be a part where the coding team lays out what they want to work on, and what they think will be done by when. Generally by next town hall, New Years, or a year from now.

Then the player base can discuss whether they'd like to see certain features implemented a bit faster than others, that was staff might be able to shift projects between front and back burners.

Last call for topics, get 'em in before tomorrow please!

I'd like a chance for players and staff to touch upon the general idea of Amiga's thread. How do we better the death experience? Pre, during or post? How do we take steps to make sure we're doing something our character would do rather than having our character do something purely for OOC-motivated reasons about how we think the game should operate? How do we know when to move on from a win and how do we know when to accept a loss?

seeing as I've seen some newer players suffer the effects of losses for an entire month while years old players continue to harass them daily. I'de say Crashdown's is a pretty good topic.

I've seen players literally ran out of this game on their first failed solo op and shit. Literally dogged every time they log in for over a month, to the point where it's not fun to log into this game anymore.

Maybe a discussion on robotics could be good.

Some talk about where it currently stands in the game, if their use should be more common, maybe there should be more robot NPCs, oh and talking about the shortcomings of them and what improvements and development they need.
